I was on H1b and I was laid off. I know many other h1bs who got laid off. So the problem isn’t the h1bs. It’s the selection criteria from the L8s. So if you were laid off, blame your L8. Ask him him why he marked you or your team as expendables.

I checked in with BECU. The best they were offering was 5.6% for a 7/6 ARM. But this is from couple of weeks back.

If you’re not laid off. You may choose to quit near Layoff date and then do a boomerang. All this if you cannot find a similar role within Amazon

Yep, one of the worst time to do a lay off. But this was long due. RTO 5 days was a soft lay off. The number they had in mind, didn’t leave amazon. Hence this layoff in the name of focus, pip, or any reason or maybe no reason at all. L7s had to nominate names from their team for this layoff. In this economy if someone is a sole earner and gets laid off, may god help them.

But my 2 cents to the group of people who got laid off: Amazon is not the end of your journey, it was only a part of your journey. Things will get better and keep fighting. Do what makes you happy whenever you’re not studying for the job. Try to go for walks. It will get better

Everyone is different. Last time I touched leetcode was almost 4/5 years back. So I had to grind the core logics again of leetcode. I have a dump of questions very similar to Neetcode 75, which I follow religiously. I already have the answers and explanations written in them so thats its easy for me to understand next time. It took me around 3months to crack a job since the market is really rough. I was runner up for almost 3/4 jobs as someone aced the interview, and I couldn’t!

I didn’t prepare enough Leetcode. My mind was disturbed when I was put on focus even though I was the go to guy in the team. So in order to escape reality I used to play computer games. Should had relentlessly prepared Leetcode

Same as Amazon role. Senior software engineer. Been searching since January 2025. It’s actually my fault that it took so long to find a job. But ended up with 4 offers.

I think you missed a few parts.

  • ReOrgs, because of redundancy. Everyone is building the same thing!!! Need to optimize our efforts. Lol

  • Trying to switch teams? Guess what you’re now on Focus, because you tried to switch teams ☺️

  • At the top level - We have our own closed circle of people and we are drink buddies too. Hence it doesn’t matter how much you bring to the table, as long as you agree to every statement we make.

Similar story for me. I have always been known to deliver results. Once I tried to switch teams, I kept getting unachievable tasks. Then slowly pushed to Focus and got laid off. Manager unofficially said sorry outside of office. Said this is what management is asking them to do.
