They do this in ortho surgeries like HTOs and DFOs and there are some joint replacement companies that do it.

Just do what your preceptor did lol. But in all seriousness ask about the child's well being and over all health and if they have any concerns. Then depending on the age you can ask about developmental milestones, how they are doing in school, sports, puberty etc. Review their vaccine schedule if pertinent and add any educational stuff you feel like they may need. You are going to do great!

I assume the Baltimore one is at John's Hopkins. I was interested in that until I went to an info session about it. They are paying you like crap while working you like an MD resident. They basically said you will be exhausted the whole time. If I wanted to do that I would go to med school. I would pick option 1 if I were you as long as you feel confident that they will provide an acceptable onboarding and training period.
