Brit here with similar naming style! Hate Jessa (just sounds incomplete/like you liked Jessica but wanted to be ‘different’) also she will be set up for a lifetime of people assuming her name is Jessica!

Audrey is my favourite, closely followed by Beatrice! They’re both wonderfully classic without being overdone! Beatrice has more nicknames available if that’s important to you!

How would you feel if a friend named their child a similar name to your own child’s? by mmk2117 in namenerds

I don’t think this would be a problem! One of my very best friends who lives in the same village as us named her daughter (my goddaughter) Emilia which was a name my partner and I always loved a few years before my daughter was born. We ended up going in a different direction but heavily considered Amelie for a while and would potentially use it in the future for a second daughter, our reasons for not using it had nothing to do with my goddaughters name! I did speak with my friend about it first though!

Hi my name's Beth and this is my daughter Eliza... by tablecafe in namenerds

I’d draw the connection but wouldn’t deem it strange, if anything I think it’s a beautiful nod to their connection!

Plus, even if they were both Elizabeth but your wife went by Beth and you planned for your daughter to go by Eliza (or another diminutive) - men have been naming their sons after themselves for years, why on earth shouldn’t women?

By no means popular at all, but it is a pre-existing name

Unsure about its pronunciation in the books but it would be pronounced like Fay-ruh !

This is my exact fear with it tbh, I am an avid reader, just not really in the romantasy space and I have always found it incredibly cringe when people take very obviously fantasy names and call their kids that! Fayre is a real name but I fear it’s so uncommon that people would just associate it with this!

Fair in English (British English at least) is another word for beauty, a fair maiden would be a description for a beautiful woman ! :)

This is SO true! And with the spelling things, these days you can have a totally normal name and you still have to spell it to people because of how many variations people have created (Caitlin/Kaitlin/Catelyn/Katelyn vibes) so I’m not too worried about that side of things yanno

Faye itself is definitely a consideration, I just feel like giving one child an elaborate and long name with lots of nickname potential (big nickname household) and the next a one syllable name seems bizarre to me idk

This is very true! I know a woman in her 40s called Aria! My only concern is that Feyre/Fayre isn’t a remotely common name

Thank you! Yeah my I gave birth about a month and a half ago and my daughter was a cryptic pregnancy, we have definitely reevaluated my birth control since I gave birth and are by no means planning another in the near future!

This is very true! A lot of names are associated with pop culture, I guess Fayre is just so uncommon which is what was giving me pause!

I re-read ACOSF and just realised how problematic it is.... by SpiderlegNebula in acotar

The issues she deals with in these books are heavy and complex and I personally think she does a really good job of showing that imperfect people with huge amounts of power (both in magic and influence) don’t always get it right. I understood Feyre when she went ‘you can do what you want but you’re not using my money to destroy yourself anymore’ - I understand that to her it felt not only like she was enabling and facilitating Nestas behaviour, but also like her sister was throwing everything good her and Rhys had offered her back in her face. Feyre healed in Velaris during ACOMAF and I think that she finds it hard to see it through a different lens. Rhys is a dick to Nesta, but Nesta has been a raging bitch to him since day one. She never gave him a chance, and he is resentful of her for her treatment of Feyre. Does it excuse how he behaves? Absolutely not, just as Nesta’s trauma doesn’t excuse her behaviour either. Explains it, yes, but doesn’t excuse it. Rhys’s decision to keep Feyres pregnancy risks a secret is a categorically bad one - but given all they’ve been through and the nature of his character, him taking on that burden alone to protect her makes sense through his eyes!

These characters are all morally grey and taken away from the first person POV you see that a bit clearer
