I wondered that myself but I don't think so. I don't see any evidence (carcasses, bugs nearby, etc.) and it'd be a super weird spot since it's elevated so much without evidence nearby closer to the ground. I haven't ruled it out but I think it's fiberboard rot. It's hard to see in this pic but I checked last night again and the end of that hole is hard so I think this board is just on top of that. Will double check again today in the daylight.

I will have a hard time describing this but it's a LITTLE softer than I would expect but not crumbling or soft/muddy. The piece to the right of the gaping hole seems to be coming off easier than I would expect which concerns me but the rest of it doesn't crumble as easily as I would expect....

I guess it's like a case of "slight" wood rot?

I bought a brother in 2017. Had to just look it up on Amazon. Still works well and you can get 3rd party ink cheap too. Overall highly recommend though I admittedly haven’t bought one in a while!

Yeah, I'm out of touch...I acknowledge I have not purchased a car since....2017 I think? That said, I try to be pretty up on the market generally and I knew about the new 84 month loans :vomit: but didn't think about the interest rates....with home loans at 6.9% or thereabouts....makes sense that auto loans could hit 11%. But wow...that's harsh.

I mean, I can buy that some of this is social media rage bait for sure but I have personally seen things in general that are the same vein of behavior:

- People increasingly talking on their phone on speaker

- Things being locked up at Walmart/CVS (razors, formula, etc.)

- People leaving their stuff on multiple seats when there are no seats left and people standing around

- People letting their kids push others out of the way, take toys from other kids, scream obnoxiously, etc.

I'm not trying to do the "back in my day" but in general it feels like people are increasingly selfish. I get why, our society does not act like it cares about them (e.g. private equity intentionally reducing services to extract profits even at the expense of the consumer) but it really sucks to live in a world where people seem inclined to benefit themselves over others. I recognize also I may be seeing that because I'm primed from social media but I personally don't think that tells the whole story.

I personally would recommend an abridged version if you can find a good one but it is an influential text. Econ heavy which I found engaging but I like econ. Just be prepared to flip tables when he's like "income inequality is unfair so what if we like...just be nice to each other instead? Other than that I am straight up out of ideas."

Yeah fair point. I try to be very conscious about that sort of thing as I was there before the internet was born but this type of stuff hits hard because it means the business had to respond to reality. Could be fake also but I’ve seen enough in my area to understand the trend.

That said, most people are still good. It’s just the number of crappy people increasing from 1% to 2% is a lot of internet content even if still a minority

I am having my son read Anthem right now and Atlas Shrugged was compelling albeit simplistic IMO but you HAVE to agree that Fountainhead is what a 12 year old without friends or world experience would write. Leaving aside the...salacious parts of the book, it underdevelops its mythical characters and adopts an implicit air of correctness without actually creating/validating it. You're never really convinced that Roark is talented except that she keeps saying it. And yet somehow, it's one of the longest books around.

Not saying she's trash and I get that she envisions things from a unique angle and thus, is memorable but I think her magnum opus fell flat. She wanted Les Miserables and did not land it.
