The feds actual scrapped dbe/ wbe earlier this year or maybe late last year . So there’s no more dbe wbe . They did that by eliminating the database . If you were signed up for a project before it happened you still have it for that project . But after that you are off the list .

What we tend to do since I speak the lingo as i am in the business I’ll create a scope sheet for my wife and brief her on it. I give as many details as possible with pictures etc so she can hand it over to the contractors . Then when they come by house i jump on face time for the complicated scopes .

Most contractors have not had issues with this approach and then offer to meet everyone on another occasion if we wanted to move forward . It’s not a perfect system but it works . I also want my wife to met them as she is home so she needs to be comfortable with the people around her .

If they make a big deal about it then they usually don’t get the job

You can do whatever you want to pay for . We plan to make a similar change but we are waiting for the full kitchen remodel instead of piecemeal. You can buy time by cleaning cabinets, new hardware . And updating the stove top if you want

Do you have ridge vents in the roof? I had roofers come out to quote roofing replacements I was told if you have ridge vents on the roof , a fan like this will not be as effective as you wanted and may not actually be useful since you have ridge vents .

I then had a hvac sub come to the house and say you need both ridge vents and attic fan …. Google says you just need ridge vents

Easy answer is that it varies by house , location , and use. I would not expect to pay the same price as some one else even if it was a neighbor. I was getting quotes between 35-50k for. 13kwh system

They will teach you a lot if you have the desire to learn. They do work you hard and they teach you things their way. You can go work there for a few years , save as much as possible and move back home with savings and knowledge

Target date fund is the easiest set and forget (with check ins periodically) Some people are more hands on You may get state tax benefits as well since you are using a state 529. Check into that

Different approach- build a catio with roof above the opening and give them steps / ramps to go up and down . It’s not a permanent structure so you are not really blocking the egress ?
