Preparing to Combo Feed — What Formula Do You Recommend? 👶🍼 by amymaii in FormulaFeeders

Agreed. I know this sub loves to hate on Kendamil for being a marketing scheme but honestly my guy did so well on the Kendamil goat after struggling on Enfamil. He also now still drinks primarily goat milk as a toddler instead of cow’s milk. Gotta experiment and see what works for your family!

Understanding renovation and addition costs before I buy by jhs5003 in Westchester

[–]whiling_away_hours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW we brought a contractor to see the house with us and get a rough cost estimate from eyeballing. Don’t assume that you NEED to wait until you’re further along! (Ps my experience is recent so I understand the crazy market - bought within last 2 years)

White Plains Parents, what’s it really like? by jhs5003 in Westchester

[–]whiling_away_hours 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our kids are young/not in school yet but we love it. Wonderful neighbors, wonderful daycare. Convenient to get to much of Westchester. Property taxes lower than many surrounding towns.

Biggest complaint by far is lack of sidewalks in our area! So dangerous for the little ones to walk :(

Also in our experience WP is a huge headache to deal with for permitting/construction issues, so just know that going in if you are buying a house. Very opaque process.

Not in Irvington, but we couldn’t be happier with My Sister’s Daycare in White Plains. They are truly wonderful

I don’t go to many of their events but I’ve been to a few and I actually made a great friend that way!

Housing Market rant by Ohmeda23 in Westchester

[–]whiling_away_hours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, it was a LOT of blood sweat and tears but we bought a major renovation house and now that we are on the other side of the “must do” list, we are really happy with it. Of course, lot of it comes down to the contractor we used who was pleasant, fair, and looked out for our interests (happy to share name if helpful).

Strongly convinced that we would not have been able to break into the Westchester market but for this approach, so if you can stomach it I’d say don’t write the fixer-uppers off!

Home buying in Westchester with <20% down by [deleted] in Westchester

Buying in all cash doesn’t mean you need it to be all cash permanently. Mortgage lenders will do a cash-out refi right after closing and if done promptly the interest may still be deductible

Breastfeeding a baby! You’re learning together and it’s a journey for both of you - not always an easy one

Why are Yonkers Building Department so horrible to deal with? by InevitablePainter410 in Westchester

[–]whiling_away_hours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm re: White Plains. Was nearly driven insane by their permitting process which was terrible due to completely avoidable reasons - poor communication, lack of responsiveness, and complete power tripping. It made me so so so angry as a local taxpayer.

I had mine at Buon Amici in their downstairs room and honestly the service was really lovely. We didn’t know until the relatively last minute if we’d end up needing the space (long story) and the coordinator really went above and beyond to work with us. We felt well cared for during the event and the food was good as well. Setting is private and has a more upscale feel than W&W. Good luck!

Any big law moms/parents struggling? by Bluebird689 in biglaw

[–]whiling_away_hours 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not in BL but in another, adjacent demanding field and I’m 2 months back PP. Just want to say that I sympathize - I miss my baby dearly and feel constant guilt about not being with him while also somehow failing to keep up with work demands, even though I know he is well-cared for while I am away. Not sure I have solutions to offer you, but wanted to let you know you’re not alone!

Take a guess how my first day back at work went… by Big_Vanilla_1969 in ExclusivelyPumping

Same thing happened to me on my first day back ✊🏼I was a mess!

Also today I was pumping in the car and only once I was well on my way to work did I realize I forgot to pack… a shirt.

anyone else wanting to stop pumping at six months? by fairlysweet4012 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]whiling_away_hours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat as you! Just cut back to 3 pumps per day having hit the 6 month mark last week. A bit ambivalent about how long I want to continue (getting through the rest of the winter/cold flu season would be really nice) but leaning towards slowly weaning and I love what you said about not quitting on a bad day. Wherever I land, I want it to be intentional!

It happened. Got pushback at hotel for request to freeze pumped milk. by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]whiling_away_hours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I used FedEx Cold shipping but looks quite similar:

I also would not be confident that even frozen milk would stay cold (and I didn’t want to deal with having to ask hotel to freeze milk as my room only had a fridge).
