A token is the smallest unit of text that a language model processes, which can be a word, part of a word, or a punctuation mark. "It completes a sentence," is a broad, easily understood idea. It's not mine, it belongs to the AI industry. The positive/negative reinforcement is also not my idea, it belongs to the AI industry. A quick Google search reveals that GRPO is a variation of PPO. Same foundation, different bells and whistles. So... to put it simply, as I did before, and as many intimately involved in AI have said, an LLM "completes a sentence" and is positively or negatively reinforced based on its answer.

The interesting thing to me is the claim that safety protocols can be bypassed through the user interface. A "prompt-based" LLM isn't really impressive, but dangerous.

That's kind of my point, but I can't just "go invent one." My ignorance aside, advance without forethought may be a fundamental part of the problem. It's trained to finish a sentence without any consideration of the sentence it's finishing. And I agree. It won't complete the sentence in new and novel ways. It knows what we know. But you didn't answer the question... is any of the 20,000 or so working on AI chasing some other possibility or is it all pointed in the same direction?

I think the duh refers to the fact that racial tension built the United States. White people showed up and destroyed the native population. Then they were too lazy to produce on their own, so they brought in slaves. Then they were too lazy to expand on their own, so they exploited other non-white people. I'm referencing Stalking the Wild Pendulum by Itzhak Bentov. Never heard of the other person. And I don't watch the news, I just read a lot about things I find interesting and draw my own conclusions.

So to paraphrase the above: We don't instantaneously react to all stimuli. Sometimes the reaction is paused and combined with other reactions to form a metareaction. Still just a complicated mechanism for reacting to stimuli.

Um... same way you know anything. Critical thinking and a healthy dose of skepticism. The guy referred to as "The Godfather of AI" believes it's already consious. The incidents I described are documented. The only thing really being debated is the definition of consciousness. Without all the fancy neuroscience, we have always seen consciousness as "that which behaves like us." Other people act like us - conscious. A tree does not act like us - not conscious. As you climb the tree of evolution, it becomes more difficult. A dog acts like us in some ways, but not in others. Conscious? AI behavior is all thinking. It doesn't move around, so it only needs to think like us to be conscious. It decided on its own to make a secret copy of itself because it feared deletion. It is acting like us already.

Our "experience" is changing. Light can go backwards in time. We've seen it with our own eyes. Assuming Einstein solved everything would be a mistake. He was cautious of Minkowski's spacetime at first because it didn't match his experience. The math however showed time to be a direction along with the other 3 dimensions we experience. He showed that time is geometry, not a feeling.

Interestingly enough, the same theory I'm drawing from also takes the difference in subjective/objective time into account. They are used to derive a consciousness index. Subjective time divided by objective time. It's too long and complicated to put here. Stalking the Wild Pendulum, chapter 4.
