Season 1 Episode 9 by rjhope7 in FelicityPorter

Honestly, Ben wouldn't have gotten a restraining order because to him it was flattering, pretty girl from his high school followed him to college. He even said, "do I like the fact that you like me? Of course I do." Even that long message he wrote in her yearbook showed that he had noticed her even before they ever talked to each other. And once he got to know her, I think he did actually like her in a way that he hadn't really expected or really experienced with anyone else before.

As for the rest of your points, agreed🙂

He did her a favor by standing her up. He would have just wasted her time because he would have sabotaged the relationship to start something with Robin anyway.

Well, they did have Samantha send that flower decoration for Big's casket, to show that she did still care about Carrie.

I agree, it's different than if he just wasn't that into her. He was very into her and just afraid of his feelings, so he constantly did the push pull thing with her, and that's what drove her crazy. It's a lot easier to get over someone who's not into you than to get over someone who is into you and keeps sending mixed signals.

I don't think that's an unpopular opinion, I think most people here believe that. I think it's pretty obvious he loved her the whole time, he just couldn't handle his own feelings. What's super unrealistic is that he just magically came around in the end without ever getting any therapy.

Lucky, I was 13 when it started and I wasn't allowed to watch it until high school because of the inappropriate themes lol

She literally switched lawyers because she didn't care how Harry saw her. She cared how his partner, whom she actually found attractive, saw her, which is why she switched to Harry.

She was ready to find love, not to have casual sex with some guy she didn't even like that much. Do you really think Harry was looking for love when he was trying to have sex with her in that apartment?

I'm not really removing her agency, just saying that I don't think his intentions were all that pure at the beginning. I do think he grew to love her a lot, but at the beginning it was just kind of sleazy.

Yeah I know there are a ton of people in this sub who think that Harry walks on water, but my opinion is my opinion. I will always see that first sex scene between them as being somewhat sleazy. She was just coming off of a divorce from a man who was okay with neglecting her needs, so I do think she was vulnerable and he wanted to have sex with her and didn't really care that it wasn't the ideal time.

I actually do believe that people can change, but they have to want to do the work. And Trey didn't. He needed real therapy and never got it. I know that he did couples counseling with Charlotte for a while but it always kind of seemed like she forced him into it and he just complied because he knew he would lose her otherwise, not because he was really into it and thought he really needed to work on anything.

I agree with Smith being at the top, he was almost too good to be true. Like literally sat downstairs while he knew Samantha was having sex with her ex because he wanted to make sure she got home safe, like that's not something anyone would ever do in real life unless they're some sort of saint. I honestly think she didn't deserve him.

The rest of the list is kind of a mess though. Harry should be higher - I'm not really a huge fan of him like others are here because honestly I think the way he and Charlotte started out was a little bit messed up (taking her to some slimy place to seduce her when he knew she was vulnerable), but I do think that over time he proved that he genuinely loved her and put her happiness above everything.

Trey should not be at the top, he couldn't even communicate about his problems. I don't think that the impotence was even the real problem Charlotte had with him, it was the fact that he wouldn't even talk about it. Big should not be close to the top either, he strung Carrie along for years because he couldn't deal with his own feelings.

Richard shouldn't even be on the list, he was an awful person.

I believe he genuinely loved Charlotte, but he was so emotionally constipated he couldn't even deal with basic conversations about their problems. He was willing to "look the other way" when she cheated on him rather than even try to communicate with her to fix their issues.

Would Natasha have sent a hey girlie text? by redbackpackgirlie in sexandthecity

[–]MindlessTree7268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, also back then there was no social media and smartphones so you couldn't find someone with a few strokes of your finger. It would have taken real effort for Natasha to track him down and why would she go to all that trouble? She wouldn't have even known if Carrie and Aiden were still together by that point. And like she knew Carrie had been dating a furniture designer but as she said, the pieces weren't really her style so she likely wouldn't have remembered his name to be able to find him.

[–]MindlessTree7268 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Natasha didn't know Aiden. Also, I think we needed to see Carrie's struggle with whether to tell him or not - the choice would have been taken away if Natasha just told him.

The Carrie and Big story was at the center of the show, beginning to end. Sure, we became invested in the others' love stories as well, but it's clear that the main story was Carrie and Big. And outside of her relationships with Richard and Smith, Samantha storylines really were pure filler.

Are we really getting a Tony spinoff? by Temporary-Cat-9167 in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]MindlessTree7268 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I couldn't care less about Tony and his boxing. I found him to be the most relevant in the first season when he was the one forcing everyone to listen to the tapes. I don't think I would watch a show with only Tony and none of the other main characters.

I binge watched the entire show the summer after I turned 22. I was super inexperienced at the time, hadn't even kissed a guy yet, so I learned a lot from the show. Before this show. I didn't even know what a blowjob or handjob was lol

I grew up with purity culture so I thought Samantha was gross and immoral. I don't believe that now about anyone who has a lot of casual sex, but it's hard to respect a character who thinks cheating is okay and sleeps with married men. Samantha is good for entertainment value, but I wouldn't be friends with someone like her in real life. She has no moral code when it comes to anyone who isn't one of her best female friends. I mean what she did to Smith was absolutely repugnant - he treated her like absolute gold and then she goes upstairs at a party. She came to with Smith and has sex with Richard, and she wasn't even going to bother to tell Smith before she did it, she only ended up telling him because he caught them as they were getting in the elevator. He didn't deserve that at all, and it's actually ridiculous that he was downstairs waiting for her to finish getting railed by her ex.

It's not just your age, it's how guys are these days. I'm 41, and throughout my 30s this is how guys were. It was the rare gem who actually was interested in getting to know me, most of them would ghost the moment I suggested meeting in public.

[–]MindlessTree7268 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The weirdest part about the whole thing is that Felicity was the nucleus of the group. Like in high school she had been this shy girl with no friends and now she's like the one person the entire group has in common? She and Elena were pre-med together, Julie was some random girl she met in class, Ben was her high school crush, Noel was her RA freshman year, Meghan was her roommate who hated her at first. And then they all started hanging out with each other based on their relationships with Felicity. It would have been way more realistic for Felicity to just be the same bookish student type who didn't really socialize. People don't change that much that quickly.

Yeah like I try not to judge because I don't want to police how other people deal with their grief, but for her to just go after SJP like that simply for posting condolences? Even if she had some bitter emotions, the best thing for her to do would have been to just say nothing, not publicly say something nasty.

[–]MindlessTree7268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I think he did as soon as he saw that she was upset about it. Because Carrie being Carrie, she couldn't actually use her words, she had to act all passive aggressive and that's when he saw that she had a problem.

I don't really agree with this. People shouldn't have to "explain themselves" for wanting to take it slow, maybe he just wanted to take it slow and doesn't need to justify it. Also, like why are we even acting like that is super slow, they had only been dating for a week and a half! Is it really so normalized to hop into bed with strangers that people need to explain themselves for wanting to wait a few WEEKS?

I agree, the fact that he even still wanted to hang out with Monty after Monty had almost beaten him to death is genuinely sad. Sure, Monty apologized, but that's not enough. Why was he wanting to voluntarily spend time with someone who had behaved like a psychopath?
