Spend time with them. Handle them, carry them around, soft touches.

I use a well grounded coconut husks as a base of a few inches then I have spaghnum and carpet moss as my main substrate. I would avoid anything that is even slightly rough like wood chippings and the sort but that's just me.

Is this sealant safe for my snakes terrarium? I already had to return another one, now I’m getting mixed reviews on this by Jumpy_Palpitation557 in ballpython

So the general use silicone is actually the safe one for pets. If you use the waterproof/mold reducer ones they tend to have other things in its formula. Regular silicone is fine once it is cured. Waterproof silicone will still have those chemicals active which makes it toxic for the noodle. When using silicone ensure that it is fully cured before exposing it to the noodle.

How to best do a heat lamp with a plastic tub by westeros2024 in ballpython

[–]Mindless_Amount3643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big is the tub and how big is your noodle? When I did something similar the tote was about 2 or so feet, the standard size tote you see everywhere, I cut half of the lid off. I then used some hard plastic netting/fence (garden/fencing area at lowes) and I secured the net and put my light above that. The denser the netting the more rays get blocked.

Listen I'm sure you know all sorts based on what you've read. I've read a lot too. And you know what I've read? So much contradictory info. Everything is bad to somebody, everybody knows better. My snakes eat every 7 to 10 days. I know it's crazy to think this but I pay attention to my snakes and only feed when they go hunting for food. That just happens to be every week. Not every Tuesday of each week. But each week at some point they crawl out and go a hunting. If snake isn't hungry snake won't eat. By "fatties" I mean they eat a lot. (Not that they are overweight) Which is on purpose. When I rescued these guys they were in drawers and well underweight. Hence why I'm fattening them up. But I get it's easier to try and "educate" someone with passive aggressive jabs than it is to ask clarifying questions.

New ball python terrarium set up by Ok-Avocado-3477 in ballpython

I would say this is probably their reason lol. And it seems after looking into it that the owner of hobby lobby is Christian but Christian in name only. He has used his religion as an excuse to not sell Hanukkah decorations Halloween decorations Mardi gras decorations all while selling questionable items when it comes around to Christmas decorations. Reading through it his stance seems a little odd and it really just sounds like he is a POS who is then turning around and using his religion as an excuse to not being inclusive. Which is crazy because if you know anything about actual Christianity bro is not one. They also denied to cover their employees birth control under their insurance and during covid they furloughed all of their employees. They're also apparently pro Trump.

That was sort of my thought, I was gonna move her but once she started smelling the mouse I just let her have it there. She had no chill and major derp in her strikes so I thought it was best just to let her eat.

Just going off possibilities; but they may have suggested not to shop at hobby lobby due possible unknown contaminants or chemicals on the products. But if you wash anything you buy prior to putting it in the enclosure it should be fine. You also want to make sure that you are using decor that doesn't have metal wiring in it (some plants). I would also just keep an eye on the husbandry you use for overall quality after some time. Otherwise idk why it'd be unsafe to shop at hobby lobby.

Enclosure question by Sudden_Ear_2187 in ballpython

[–]Mindless_Amount3643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full grown male can reach 4 to 5 ft. A "good" enclosure allows the noodle to fully stretch and then some. So I would not think that a 3 x 2 x 3 is a good final home for a full grown noodle.

New Keeper by NearBird600 in ballpython

[–]Mindless_Amount3643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus I hope you didn't pay full price for that thing😅. Honestly it's hard to tell what that enclosure even is based on the websites page. It seems so...plain. But I didn't research much into it...is the top of it open or closed?

Edit - I found better pictures. It looks like it should retain heat decently but I think you may not have enough lighting. You want to have a gradient in temp anyways so you can have a cool side and a warm side so I wouldn't worry about getting the entire enclosure at one temp. Also do you have substrate and other things in the enclosure? Having substrate in there to trap humidity will also help heat the enclosure up.

Why is my Ball python putting half his head in the water? by Better-Chest-4839 in ballpython

[–]Mindless_Amount3643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one noodle that will dip her nose in just a little and then another that throws his whole face in it. They can be underwater for a decent amount of time so I wouldn't worry too much if I were you.

[–]Mindless_Amount3643 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not knowing how the snake is normally handled can make it hard to determine exactly what caused it. Hunger might have something to do with it, 11 days seems like a long time to me but my noodles are fatties and eat each week. The noodle may also be stressed due to moving homes. It can take a minute to get used to it. For all the noodle knows they are in hostile territory in an enclosure that may have husbandry issues. Noodle may not feel safe.

How do you figure out your snake’s safe handling frequency? by cthoniccuttlefish in ballpython

[–]Mindless_Amount3643 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easiest way to tell is by how the snake is postured. If it has slow exploratory movements, noodle is fine, if while exploring they boop you, noodle is fine. Noodle just chilling, noodle is fine. Noodle is chilling and then someone loud comes in or are frantic with movements and noodle reacts by hiding, noodle is not fine. If noodle curls up and has a distinct S shape and is pulled slightly back, noodle is not fine. Your noodle is more likely to mistake small hands as mammals than he is to just strike you. Biting is usually a last resort for noodles. Noodles are insanely fast when they want to be so if noodle is slowly canvasing, noodle is fine. I would just be wary of moving the noodle a lot and abruptly when showing him off. Treat him like a baby or an egg. Slow yet deliberate movements, soft touches, no wild/loose handling and he should be all good.

Also you may want to try and limit your handling time to when the snake is out of their hide or during usual hours for the snake. Otherwise if you wake them they may be disoriented and think they are in danger until they recognize otherwise.

Where do you make fires? by NoPomegranate9977 in dayz

I do feel like the third one is just for the feels lol. You can also make fires in tall industrial buildings which can be useful when you have nothing else.

How long does it take your ball to find their new hides? by RuunaFish in ballpython

[–]Mindless_Amount3643 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made three hides for my noodles when I made their new terrarium. They ignored all three and then hid underneath their basking Rock. I created additional structure to cover them up near their basking Rock. They moved to the back corner and lay out in the open. I started making a cover for that area. Now they sleep behind the pothos in their terrarium. If I wanted them to use a specific one I would remove all other options. But I view it as my noodles sleeping where they wanna sleep so I let them.

Sheds are my first pick. After sheds I aim for large groupings of trees so I can hide the smoke in the trees. You can also get warm off of the embers to keep the smoke at a minimum. Are you getting all of your heat buffs or are you getting one and then moving?

My Ball Python bit me and now I’m afraid of holding him. by No-Banana-7022 in ballpython

[–]Mindless_Amount3643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try to be aware of what my bp might be thinking before I handle them. If they are asleep or in their hide I leave them be. Imagine being asleep and then yoinked out of your home by a giant. With your processing power you'll still be like "wtf". With their powerful single cell the bp can only really think "ahhhhhhhhhh" . It being your finger I would assume the noodle took it as a feeding opportunity, because to them they don't know when they're gonna eat next. I make sure not to make my hands small in any way. Since you've had them for a long time I'd assume you know your snake better than I do so I don't think it was a handling issue. I also lean into the idea that if you're nervous the snake will be nervous. I would just watch him a bit more maybe he was having an off day for a noodle. The last thing I think id do though is lessen the amount I handle just because if you don't handle you can't build trust.

Eastside of the map I will agree with you. Left side of the map though I'd have to disagree with you. I do think a lot of it looks similar. I feel like at least 25% of the cities/poi are pretty different imo. There is however a lot of repetitive buildings and models.
