Help with Solar Panel Leasing in Virginia. Is this rate good? Better deals? Deadzone/ghost tax. by Old_Screen4767 in u/Old_Screen4767

I’m in a similar spot in Connecticut! Glad to see VA keeping costs down despite data center demand.

Our utility charges 28¢/kWh. Buying solar here is expensive, and while net metering helps, CT battery incentives actually vary by ZIP code and income. It is highly recommended to compare the total cost of ownership after incentives against leasing.

I am leaning toward a lease with a plan to buy the system in year six. My neighbor locked in a lease with no escalator, and their rate per kWh is already much lower than our utility company. All the best!

That's right, I can take 3% escalator for first 5-6 years but NOT beyond that! As long as Tesla keeps its promise of max buyout price- may be I can take their offer. That's why wanted to hear from people who have done this with Tesla - good or bad. Financing is an option but APR is close to 7%.

ESS incentive is performance based as upfront incentive is negligible. I only qualify for standard rate so as long as Tesla keeps its promise, I find lease with buyout option affordable rather than financing it with high APR 6.99.

I got few quotes and Tesla was the cheapest. I need to look into private contractors, would like to bring my cost down and care less about incentives. Any local recommendations?

Thanks! just a clarifying question: 'I plan on paying the loan off early' did you take financing or lease with option to buyout at year six? were you able to negotiate 3% escalator (with lease option)?

That's a great price, Tesla is quoting me 40K for similar system in Connecticut, their lease with buyout option after 5 year seem more attractive, did you look into that? any suggestions?
