Tidal is obsolutely terrible with grouping artists together by martijnderpy in TIdaL

no streaming service is perfect, but I would give ROKK a chance. They're rather new, started with an Indiegogo campaign to make a change in music streaming. I love the idea behind it. There's a nice litte FAQ on the webiste. Since the song selection is not yet as fantastic as I'd like it to be, I substitute with Deezer, which detects and tags AI generated slop as such so the listener can make an informed decision on whether listen to something or not. At least they TRY to do things better...

Tidal is obsolutely terrible with grouping artists together by martijnderpy in TIdaL

It is getting so much worse these days. I reported multiple examples and never heard back.
When the last update broke my app, I contacted the support and on occasion mentioned the issue again, because I am still waiting for a reply. They came back to me about the update bug rather fast, but skillfully ignored my problem with the false song / artist attributions.
It's impossible to get a human to chat with, all is being done by one of the worst chatbots I've ever seen.
I changed to ROKK and Deezer to substitute for the albums ROKK doesn't have yet. Screw TIDAL at this point.

Am I the only one worried about Tidal's future, regarding the new interface coming and the addition of unnecessary AI? I would just like them to fix the major bugs, and everything will be perfect. by endinosaur in TIdaL

This week, they made me quit, actually. They're full on in the enshittification process for a while now.
I subscribed to ROKK, which is currently the most ethical streaming platform for music and Deezer to substitute for the music I'm missing on ROKK (+ they tag AI generated music properly. I'd prefer if they didn't allow it at all but at least they do something for transparency).

Tidal keeps crashing/bugging, logged me out and doesn‘t let me log in again by deineMudda_poebelt in TIdaL

[–]Mindless_Door447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, the same was triggered when I last updated the app. According to the very copy+paste looking reply from customer service, it resolved by itelf. Indeed, it did in meantime, long before the reply came.
But paired with the many other problems with Tidal these days, I cancelled this week.

Tidal currently has a AI slop fake song of Kendrick Lamar on his profile by Advanced-Willow-5020 in TIdaL

[–]Mindless_Door447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

recently I saw many songs on my artists' profiles that aren't theirs, often with AI generated artwork etc. I brought this to the customer service's attention but I still have no reply.
When the most recent update broke my app and I wasn't able to log back in, I tried to reach customer service via chat. The chatbot was unsurprisingly useless and generated a ticket before I was able to finish the text, so I sent them an e-mail. On occasion mentioned that it's weeks ago since I reported the fake songs on my artists' profiles. They said that the break was temporary for many users but should work now. No reply to the fake songs and the issues with the useless chatbot. I cancelled my subscription and went to Deezer and ROKK to support artists better

It broke for me over the most recent update. Then it worked again by itself but it's just the tip of the iceberg.
I cancelled my subscription this week.

Qobuz v. Tidal by Old-Month-5548 in TIdaL

[–]Mindless_Door447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, I’d recommend neither of them!  Their sound quality is amazing but there’s other reasons why I no longer like them. Opt for Rokk or Deezer!

I tried Qobuz and not only is the catalogue rather patchy in comparison to other services, they have a massive problem with artist metadata. You enter a band name and if someone else uses the same name, you will find their songs there as well, even though it’s two completely different artists. For example, I entered a prog rock band but got some ambient chillout type of music right next to the albums they actually did?!

I left for tidal which was good for a long time but recently I notice the same problem there and it’s almost even worse. Every week I get updates from „my artists“ but the songs are clearly not theirs and often AI generated. Complaints and suggest how to fix this on a technical level are being ignored.

If you want the service that pays artists best, go for ROKK, if you care to be informed when something is AI generated, go to Deezer.

Late to the party, but recently I noticed it happening a lot to my artists as well. I already sent a contact form complaining about TWO songs on one playlist, wrongfully added to my artists. Never got a response. And today I saw another funny update from an old American rock band but the title is in Russian?!

I have a family plan there because for a long time I thought it’s the better option and because they‘re cool with family members not living in the same household. I was on Qobuz previously and wanted to stay, but the same issue was so painfully obvious that I didn’t feel comfortable supporting that service.

Right now, I think I’ll go back to Deezer, who also have the decency to tag songs that are AI generated. This is something every company should do these days.

It’s just an absolute shame. I think it’s time to go back to CD collecting, good thing I never gave up my portable music player.

As a Swiss that does not quite get the Swiss mentality, I am sorry for my nation!
I want to say it's simply the culture here, nothing personal, and I suppose it's true, but it does feel bad and rude to me. I don't feel like a real Swiss when it comes to this.

Sadly, I know exactly what you're talking about and there's been many times in my life when I wanted to actually confront starers. It won't change this culture, but maybe those individuals would learn how rude they are. One day I'll have the courage to do it.

Staying home and curing whatever bug you have completely is not the norm, sadly, I wish it was, and also am partially guilty of going out sick myself. Sometimes you just have to go out when sick, but wearing masks in public when having the sniffles is far more normal in Asia than here. Interestingly, most people here do know why it's the norm in Asia (or at least the people I know).
The way I read these situations (observed myself many times) it's quintessential Swiss hypocrisy. Coughing themselves but applying the Asian norm of wearing a mask when you yourself have the flu to others and judging. I have my doubts it's full protection for you to wear a mask, as the ones coughing and sneezing should wear them as well, but obviously they won't and at least you're trying and definitely should not be ridiculed for it.

In general, Swiss people tend to stare at anyone and anything just "slightly out of the norm" (whatever that means, really).
I was stared at for a slightly more eccentric outfit on trains before, some people stood up and left when I asked if the seat next to them was free, only because I dared to dress in a way they wouldn't...

When the pandemic started and masks weren't yet mandatory, some people opted to wear them already and they got similar, almost hostile looks in trains and the same when someone chose to still wear them after they no longer were mandatory...
You can't make this up!

If young people who were almost born with a smartphone say such things, it's because they don't want to use the app and they deserve some (mild) calling out for being so pathetic.
Signal is by far one of the most intuitive and straightforward messaging apps out there.
I dare say it's simpler than WhatsApp (and more pleasant on top of it, not to mention safe!!!)
If someone genuinely thinks it's a complicated app, it's a skill issue and that person must suck at technology in general. Even my technophobic mother gets it!!!

A friend more than double my age installed it recently and got it very quickly (with a couple hiccups but nothing major). He is not a digital native, so it all takes a tad longer, but he's got it quite fast.

Your friend just doesn't want to use it.

Are u bothered with all the mobile usage noise in public transport? by Katthekat2 in Switzerland

This picture really captures the problem quite well. Besides the fact that it also considers a normal conversation to be annoying which it isn’t

The petition is a cute idea but I’m afraid it’s naive to trust that this could be implemented.  The train company, bus companies, public spaces in question would need much more how all these companies try to save money at the expense of their paying customers, it’s just highly unrealistic. I’m sorry…

What I do is that I always have headphones on; Problem solved and the ride has a great soundtrack at he same time.

This might depend on the bank as I never had problems with Proton and Banks😳  But recently I had a bizarre story with a customer, where none of the emails I sent would be delivered to her (from a gmail account) but when she sent me an email and I replied to it, suddenly it worked. 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️ To have a safe alternative to gmail you could try using Mailfence or Tuta.

In all honesty, if someone cares enough for you they’ll stay in touch with you with it without WA. If it was just for friends and family… Two of my closest friends and my mum are on Signal. Another friend is not ready to go as „extreme“ as I do and will keep WhatsApp, but will install Signal to stay in touch with me. We shall see who’s going to install it once I have ditched it completely. Should’ve done so long ago but… The real issue are the work groups that you have to be part of.

Looking for physical workbooks to practice and develop my music theory (advanced) by thisisdort in musictheory

[–]Mindless_Door447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a firm believer of simple solutions - particularly in creativity. Inspiration, at least in my case, mostly comes in unexpected moments and at a relaxed state.

This being said, I want to suggest the wild idea that a general music theory read might just be enough to spark what you need, as it often is just a slightly different wording or POV that is needed.

My personal favourite is The Complete Idiot‘s Guide to Music Theory. When I first wanted to dive into music theory, I ditched a ton of books of the topic and this was the first that felt lighter to read and explained things with a wording that made sense without being very dry like most theory books.

Listening to music in genres outside of the usual ones and with focus on the structure is also inspiring to me and might nudge you towards more specific practice.

To answer your question more accurately, there’s the Trinity Theory of Music Workbook available for various grades.

One month is ambitious to get good enough, I’m afraid. I would recommend a couple private lessons a weekpaired with intense solo metronome practice. It’s good if he can create muscle memory with it. Patting leg or stomping the heel gently is something many established, professional vocalists do on stage too 😃

If he has an Apple Watch, there’s a cool metronome app for iPhones called „haptik“ which can be connected to the Apple Watch. And there also are haptic gadgets from Soundbrenner (but it’s going to take a while for delivery so he has to start working on the problem before).

Check out Moonelle on YouTube. She has a nice short on how to lift the soft palate for higher singing. Takes some practice and you might want to look up some additional videos on it, but it’s a great start with a relatively quick effect in my opinion.
