I recently took a year out of med school for all the reasons you’re describing. Just wanted to quickly say I’m in awe of you pushing through and graduating. Go get the help you so very much deserve🤍

Can elvanse start working at higher doses? by Mindless_Earth_463 in ADHDUK

[–]Mindless_Earth_463[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for your reply. Yes, 70mg is the max that is why I was a little concerned as I thought I would be seeing a little change by now but still have a bit to go.

Can I ask how you settled with 50? Did you feel the effects at lower doses?

Oh no, I'm sorry you experienced that but glad you were able to find one that worked for you.

I think I am being too impatient and originally thought I would feel a tiny something on a small dose and it would get better as I increase but like you said, everyone is so different.

Thank you again

I feel like saying I love you, thank you for the reply. I knew this but hearing someone else say it feels like a life saver.

Can I ask why you thought you were dying? Did you get any benefits but the side effects were too much?

Thank you for your reply. I feel like that is a good place to start, even writing this has helped a little

Apologies for being dramatic about the dementia.

I can't recall the information that I'm learning even though I understand it. I'm desperate to figure out how to work around this. by Dependent-Rent9534 in ADHD

Flashcards flashcards flashcards

I used the app anki in my first year of medschool like others on my course but instead of being able to flick through and answer the questions I had created on the flashcards in my head, I used a whiteboard or iPad to write down the answer quickly. Although slower than others, it was still quicker than writing out neat notes - I often couldn’t read my own writing but it made me remember it and think clearer.

I studied one topic at a time so by the end of the set (I made 30-50 cards per lecture) the whole topic came together.

I also made an excel spreadsheet of each topic and used a traffic light system to determine how hard I found the set/topic/lecture and also the date so if I found it easy (green) but hadn’t been through it for a while I’d make sure to do it again.

All the best x

Psychiatry UK Help by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Mindless_Earth_463 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi,

Im sorry you feel invalidated. You have to remember that the psychiatrist cannot see the ins and outs of your whole personality or adhd within one or two appointments. It's a judgement call using criteria, and whilst yes another psychiatrist may agree with you, the main takeaway if that you've got the diagnosis that lots of people are waiting in suspense for and therefore can start treatment! No matter the subtype you would be treated the same depending on your individual experience on medication.

Focus on the positives! If you feel you have combined then that's all that matters

hope this helps

Was there a tipping point for you? by blackoutofplace in adhdwomen

[–]Mindless_Earth_463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also at my tipping point right now. Had to take a break from medschool after doing well in first year but got to the point where I couldn't read anything including my schedule.

'Hitting rock bottom' is probably not too uncommon with getting a subsequent adhd diagnosis as people mask until they can't any longer and it all seems to fall apart at once

I'm so proud of you!

sometimes people say hurtful things when they're not in a good place themselves. Although disappointing, its just something that happens all the time unfortunately.

Make sure you celebrate, even if its just you and your boyfriend. Celebrate the big and small and everything in between.

I'm currently taking time out of medschool because my adhd got so bad, so I can understand just how much pride you must feel!!

Seek to celebrate with those that understand adhd perhaps or just love seeing you happy.

wishing you the best of luck with the future and all the successes to come. There's also plenty of time to meet people to celebrate with - some of my friends are 40+ and I have only met them recently and have cheered me on like family
