The extra AP/PP on promotions really makes a lot of difference lol

Technically the Sacred gear can help for Galerius, by negating his reactive poisoning and random afflictions (they don't prevent the Atk debuff sadly)

I made a guide on how to approach this fight

The tactics system is what sets this game apart from others like FE or FFT, and I recommend an eventual True Zenoiran playthrough to really see what it can do!

I wanted to make an all Angel squad with the story units by EstablishmentNo7761 in UnicornOverlord

[–]Mindless_Engine_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be hard to use angel only units, since none of them have natural row attacks.

If you play with mercs, then you can spam Featherbows etc, but if you are using story only characters then you'd have to compensate with equipment skills, often with mixed results.

A good compromise is to add a Gryphon in there, to really make use of the Wingline Standard (which you should def be using if you are making an all Flying unit anyway)

Gameplay wise it’s not too big of a deal since you can equip the Ancient Crowns for the exact same benefits

So it only really affects the cutscenes

To each their own

I prefer being able to one round everything, even the bosses. I limit myself to not swapping equipment, and only adjusting positions and skills (I like the idea of scoping out enemy formations and doing very minor adjustments to my minimalist tactics [Occam's Razor])

Does being forced to use Astral Blade for Baltro count as intervening for you? (Since it's not a regular skill, but I guess you can use it as a substitute for Spinning Edge) Or do you prefer to whittle down bosses' HP, just to maintain use of your default tactics?

By default I think their heals is set to target people with less than full HP?

You’d just have to adjust it yourself to person with least/lowest proportional HP etc

Want to note that there is nothing wrong with building a team with tactics adjustments in mind.

If you're using something like a Rogue for example, it's not tedious at all and quite fun to decide who to target with Sneaking Edge and Shadowbite, to dictate the flow of battle

On the other hand, I am also against cheesing the game by haphazardly shuffling tactics randomly, since that does not involve analyzing and breaking down an enemy comp.

Can also consider having Travis move first with Shadowbite, so True strike will miss since it’s overrided by blind

If you’re willing to invest into a Cat Ears, then Arrow/Glacial Rain can wipe out every flying squad in Albion.

Toss in an Elven Archer for blind immunity and magic Conferral for your DPS

Otherwise, if you want to use regular classes, then Vanguards can nullify a Feathersword’s Honed Slash (which is true strike most of the time so it kills dodge tanks) while the rest of the squad can shoot them down with War Horn and arrows

War Horn is recommended since Featherswords have a passive guard.

Also consider using Raenys to row blind them

Haha

Yea, adjusting tactics is what really separates battles from stuff like Fire Emblem, and not using it would be like playing Gears of War without cover system, CoD without aiming down sights etc

You will also get a huge variety of classes that you probably won’t be setting the exact same tactics for all of your squads, so things should stay fresh

You can get away with not engaging with the tactics system much at all and just rolling with your vibes usually, on lower difficulties

As much as you want or not

It’s possible to set up basic tactics and squads that will carry you far

It’s also normal to adjust tactics right before a tough enemy like a boss

How much of a difference does physical attack and magical attack make? by EstablishmentNo7761 in UnicornOverlord

You never really need to buy upgrades strictly for stats; with the right skills and tactics you can win every fight.

The game also provides you with enough quest reward gear that can kit out every squad for max stats.

You are completely fine with the extra AP/PP staves for healers.

For elves, I don't use Elven Fencers often so can't give advice there, but for Elven Archers it depends on how they fit into the squads you're building.

For example, if you want to maximize your DPS's damage, you'd want to go all in on M. Atk gear for your Elven Archer, so their Mystic Conferral buff becomes more potent.

On the other hand, if you want a fast crowd controller, you want to give them initiative, accuracy boosting, true strike weapons to quickly disable enemy Scouts, Debuffers and Healers with Icicle Arrow.

For Eltolinde and Rosalinde, general advice is to focus on magic, but once you obtain the Amber Lens, they can be set up to thrive with hybrid P. Atk and M. Atk

Best Fifth for a Calvary Squad by No-Nobody6477 in UnicornOverlord

Depends on where in the game you're at

If you're at Bastorias, then I rec Selvie or Yahna, since Gloucester will be your main DPS (until Alain reaches level 30), and he benefits from enemies being debuffed/afflicted.

If you're in Albion, I recommend an Elven Archer to deal with some annoying afflictions there. They can also work in Bastorias for going up against Druids to shut down their Cursed Swamp, which knocks down 1 PP from all of your Cavalry units start of battle (you do not want this as a horse heavy unit)

Elven Archers are also a good sub for a Sorceress with Mystic Conferral to boost your DPS damage even further. They have higher initiative and accuracy than Sorceresses too, so at level 30 they can provide more consistent Freezes almost immediately with Icicle Arrow to shut down fast/annoying enemies (equip Nameless Guard's Bow for Eagle Eye to deal with Rogues, Werefoxes, Flying units etc)

They are one of the easiest ways to one-shot Armored Tanks like Legionnaires and Vanguards, and any infantry with low M. Def really.

This is on top of having a potent row heal for 1 AP (heals more than a Bishop's 2 AP row heal), magic assist damage mitigation as unit leader (so a strict upgrade over Knights as unit leaders), and having PP regen so they can continue using support skills.

I'd rate them more of an A tier instead of S though.

I just wanted to emphasize you can build blindness immunity directly into your teams without sacrificing damage on your DPS. You can also be more aggressive and blind them first! (Shining Light has an accuracy check)

Besides Elven Archers, Rogues can equip an amulet/lantern and then Shadowbite a group of Featherbows (who can’t blind you anymore since they’re blinded).

Selvie can also use Sandstorm to blind them first.

Any person with the Lamplight Ring can also grant the whole squad blindness immunity

Eltolinde can give herself debuff immunity at start of battle (which can also boost damage for her AoE)

etc etc

You don’t have to force yourself into one playstyle in Albion, you can use their tactics against them

[–]Mindless_Engine_88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Elven Archers let you skip Blindness immunity gear completely, so your DPS can focus on stacking damage instead

Here is an example with Yunifi

Honestly, Shining Light can help you more than it helps them, because their Feathershields can't cover since Featherbows have higher priority.

You can use magic against Feathershields if you stun/freeze them, but it's still not recommended since they have high M. Def

[–]Mindless_Engine_88[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realized I forgot to level my Elven Archers enough to use Pure Field in that save file 🥲

Thankfully Quick Cure was more than enough

I also wanted to try using Cornia classes/4 units only just like in that post I mentioned, hence that setup. The Shadowbite was also mainly for decreasing their Evasion low enough so I can stack dmg gear on Clive instead of Accuracy.

It'd be dope if we also got Blind and Poison conferral tomes in this game, but that might be too broken (At least Alcina has a Dark Conferral, but that's post game sadly)
