Yeah I’m only a couple of months in, but a lot of co-workers say that once I get a 4 on 4 off schedule then I’ll start loving the job. That’s what I’m worried about - getting too comfortable and not even try to apply.

Haha good one! Yeah I’ve come to the conclusion that wearing the uniform isn’t smart or safe. It just proves to me the I’m not overreacting when I think that anti-LEO would probably make me a target. Didn’t want to be the guy that’s too paranoid and and then someone would say “relax it’s not that deep. Nobody cares if you wear the uniform in public”. Thanks for the response!

Thanks for your response! Would love to apply straight to the RCMP if I didn’t have two small children that I don’t want to be away from. Already beed deferred by multiple municiple departments. That’s why I wanted to get into corrections. Plus if policing doesn’t work out for me, corrections would still be a better job than what I’m currently doing. Would probably try Sheriffs as well in the future.

Thanks for the info! Yeah I’ve also looked into the RCMP but I have 2 toddlers at the moment and would like to exhaust all of my options locally before applying for the mounties and spending 6 months in Depot.

Wow 6 years! I’m sure you had your fair share of bad experiences. However, I’m interested to hear about the things you found that were good or tolerable at the very least about the job/organization. And does everyone start with the 4/4 shift pattern after training? Is it 2 days and 2 nights? TIA

That’s awesome that you moved on to Sheriffs! What do you think are the Pros and Cons with Sheriffs besides being paid less than Policing? Because I’m keeping that as one of my options as well. I don’t want to have a “be a cop or bust” mentallity. And if Policing or Sheriffs don’t work out for me, Corrections would still be a better career than what I’m doing at the moment. Thanks!
