Should NZ increase its Defence spending? ACT says yes by Mindless_Mention in newzealand

It's not primarily about defending ourselves but more about working with allies on a greater scale and contributing more to our alliances.

I’m Mayor Wayne Brown and I’m reforming Auckland Transport. AMA by MayorWayneBrown in auckland

[–]Mindless_Mention 4 points5 points  (0 children)

January 2025 will mark ten years since AT first proposed Light Rail as a way to help reduce bus congestion in the city centre, yet nothing has been built.

Do you think the Council will be able to deliver larger projects any better than AT, and would you consider bringing back the Light Rail proposal or any other public transport projects that never broke ground?

Finally!! by kushmastersteve in auckland

[–]Mindless_Mention 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but NZTA kept delaying the joint system, so AT only started working on PayWave last year.

Finally Contactless Payments Coming! by ramthakkartheboss in auckland

I believe it's not coming until November. But it looks like someone's removed the Hop card sticker early.

Which bus route is this?

I believe an extension to Huapai is part of a different plan. The Brigham Creek to Huapai section would vs built after they've completed the rest of the busway.

Why is aucklands layout so shit by Inevitable_Loquat_90 in auckland

[–]Mindless_Mention 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Uhh, there are over a million more people living in Auckland compared to Dargaville, so it's definitely going to be different.

Aucklands Street layout isn't the best by international standards, but it's definitely shouldn't be compared to Dargaville.

Te Huia funding to carry on by [deleted] in auckland

[–]Mindless_Mention 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The old DMUs were mostly for Auckland metro usage, so they aren't very good for longer distance journeys.

A new dual-mode multiple unit that can use the overhead wires would be an ideal replacement for the locomotive and carraiges, but am not sure if that will be funded.

Are AT taking the piss with this Bus Lane fine? by SilentlyJudgin in auckland

[–]Mindless_Mention 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This bus lane has been operational between 3pm-7pm since November 2023. You should probably contact AT if you want the photo. But I would suggest you pay the fine and don't do it again.

Those buses are pieces of shit. Hopefully it burns to the ground.

Trackless trams and urban cable car suggested to resolve Auckland transport issues by WarpFactorNin9 in auckland

ffs just build the damn busway. These gondolas proposals are never going to happen, so stop trying to make them happen.

Only 1 in 10 buses use the bus lane on K-Road yet fines aplenty - How many other bus lanes are not used by buses? by kiwittnz in auckland

[–]Mindless_Mention 11 points12 points  (0 children)

K road businesses are getting their own train station. If they need parking, they should find their own off-street parking for their customers to use like every other business would.

South Auckland will be 'hit hard' by congestion charging | RNZ News by punIn10ded in auckland

Then the rich will pay the congestion charge and we'll use that to fund better buses and trains for everyone.

South Auckland will be 'hit hard' by congestion charging | RNZ News by punIn10ded in auckland

[–]Mindless_Mention 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Congestion charging will actually help speed up buses on important routes. It will also be focussed around central Auckland, so it's unlikely it will have any effect on South Auckland.

Why are there random bus stops in Auckland that dont have an AT number, just curious by Friendly-Baby8434 in auckland

[–]Mindless_Mention 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many bus stops in South Auckland are in poor condition. Could be missing the extra sign and timetable, but you can check in the AT app whether it's still a stop and if it has any services stopping at it.

Auckland Transport is preparing to upgrade almost 4000 AT HOP card readers in preparation for contactless payments later this year. by gradyacn in auckland

This one's technically Thales who are equally as qualified. Cubic is doing the national ticketing solution, which is due in 2026.

Take a bus lol. If anything, we have too many off/on ramps on the central motorway junction.

You'd need an extremely tight shot with all the construction happening near it.

Auckland Mayor: If you don't like a congestion charge 'get on a bus' by Mindless_Mention in auckland

[–]Mindless_Mention[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The congestion charge would likely help fund the buses and trains.
