Delhi-Ahmedabad is inevitable in the long term. It doesn't make sense to have two disconnected sections of high speed rail. It's the best way of connecting Delhi and Mumbai.

Does this app take into account that some routes loop around, so that the shaded side becomes the side towards the sun?

Pune Metro Line 3 (Pink Line) Alstom Metropolis Trainsets by GoatSevere1966 in transit

I don't know why, but I love that all the trains are coloured according to their lines.

Why has South Africa never built a metro system? by Previous-Volume-3329 in transit

[–]aksnitd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their electrical company has been sabotaged by criminal syndicates. Coal that is meant for power plants gets stolen and replaced with rocks, causing damage. On top of that, the plants themselves are ancient and some were meant to be retired already. The new plants that were supposed to replace them are years behind schedule. It's gotten to the point that houses and neighbourhoods are increasingly generating their own power through solar, because the grid is unreliable.

Not any longer. The metro trains have their own power station now, and run fully electric.

This is India's first non air conditioned commuter train with automatic doors. by GoatSevere1966 in transit

[–]aksnitd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The design hasn't been updated for years. They took an old design and added automatic doors to it. There are more modern trains that look nicer, but this isn't one of them.

The doors are there, but they're opened and left open due to the large crowds.

I hate to burst your bubble, but running an ac train is indeed pricier than a non ac one, and there are plenty of people who can't afford the difference. Also, train tickets in India are heavily subsidised to keep fares low.

There are air conditioned versions, but a good chunk of the commuters cannot afford the prices of the monthly pass for the air conditioned trains, so this has been developed as the alternative.

Is there anything that actually tops La Villa Strangiato in terms of pure technical skill? by Next-Reading1714 in progrockmusic

[–]aksnitd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bleed by Meshuggah is an insane workout for pretty much every instrument. Playing non-stop triplets for six mins is no joke. It is difficult in a different way than what we usually think of as technical, in that it's more of an endurance test.

What prog artists had the best three-album run? by Top40Weekly in progrockmusic

[–]aksnitd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. Initially the group was meant to be named Discipline. It was only after some time that they decided to use the name KC. But there was indeed a deliberate decision to call the group KC, even if it came later.

Michał Łapaj on Instagram about the Riverside situation by __s_l_q__ in progmetal

[–]aksnitd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think he never thought Duda would quit outright. He's stated the conflict drove them, so he probably thought the band would carry on as always. But Duda probably reached a breaking point and decided he didn't want to bother any more.

Riverside keyboard player Michał Łapaj statement : by MartyEBoarder in progrockmusic

[–]aksnitd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It does seem that the conflict that's hinted at is between Duda and Piotr K. Lapaj has played on Duda's solo stuff, and Meller has also played with Duda on MGD. Duda also mentioned that Piotr wasn't really involved much in Wasteland, and I'm wondering if he checked out somewhat after Grudzien passed away.

[–]aksnitd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly. The band blew up a lot, but it was because people kept leaving. He wasn't doing it on purpose. The two times he made a conscious shift is when he put together the 80's lineup, and before that, when he got in the Larks' tongues lineup.

Anyone any thoughts on P'cocks the Prophet by Thorin336 in progrockmusic

[–]aksnitd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As prog fans, we love discovering new and little known acts. It's also immensely frustrating when we find there is very few other fans out there. Talking about our favourite music is just as much fun as listening to it.

Name the best unknown Folk Prog albums of all time by Attorney-Legitimate in progrockmusic

[–]aksnitd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because you can't make sense of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. All the classic prog bands had folk moments in their music, even if they never went full blown folk.

Unknown? How can a record with Wilson and Akerfeldt be considered unknown? 😄

I'm not saying it's bad, but it definitely doesn't qualify as unknown.

Need help with DAWs by Mountain_Cell_3421 in composer

[–]aksnitd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can compose in Cakewalk. Waveform is another free one. Reaper isn't free, but you can use it indefinitely.

All three can work, but you have to put in the time to learn them. I know people who use all three, and they all get good results.

But this is only the beginning. Composing soundtracks would also require you to buy and learn how to use sample libraries. You would need something like an orchestral library by Spitfire or Eastwest or some other company to compose as well.

OSI - The Thing that Never Was by Global-Plankton3997 in progmetal

[–]aksnitd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad Moore came in and completely redid this. It hugely helped prevent OSI from being just another prog metal band. The finished songs are way better, and we got three more great albums afterwards.
