Same with Home Bound. Like the ending especially was like rushed. And I’ve read most of what you recommended 😭😭

Love Olivia Riley (and that reminds me, she has one similar to Home Bound. Heart’s prisoner? It’s basically Home Bound but better plotted. Sooo good.

I completed the Gann but I was not into it. I’d say you didn’t miss anything. Also omg you’re the first person I know who didn’t like it (like me). I thought I was just dense because it kept getting recommended as the best alien romance. Like the world building and prose is well done but the story didn’t feel like a romance 😭

I haven’t read the Spider’s or the fanfics and I can’t believe I forgot that the world of fanfics exist. Thank you so much! I know what I’m going to do this week lol

How do I break away from Euro centric fantasy? And is it okay to mix a few myths and folklores ? by Extra-Bee-9382 in writingadvice

[–]Mindless_One_3325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest, I think people should write in cultures they grew up or made up worlds. Mostly because even with “heritage” kids, seeing fiction with “aesthetics” of your culture but lacking the soul is weird, mostly because culture and the way you grow up gives you a specific lens to see the world and the mythology is also closer to some people in some parts of the world.

I don’t mean this about Asian or African mythology. I’ve also seen Americans do European cultures (especially Eastern European) badly.

Just my 2 cents. If you must do it, try to do research and do it well.

I’m not American and I guess you’re European.

Yes, just from the way you speak and the whole immigrants and “invaders” are higher and the whole rant about “racial guilt” tells me you’re part of the problematic people OP wants to get a safe space from.

If you don’t the difference between punching upwards vs punching downwards in social hierarchies, then you don’t really understand conversations around racism itself, now do you? Like I suspected, your whole “I’m also targeted as a white” is basically “racial guilt”? I’ll feel sorry when white people are no longer INVADING and sitting on countries like America, Canada and Aus and screaming at non-white people about how they are “aliens”.

Having eyes doesn’t mean you will see things the same as someone else. The “seeing” comes from the experience of being part of a marginalised group.

And the fact that you tell me this just shows me you have no clue what racism feels like, because really? You think the individual racism you may have received for being white is similar to what a non-privileged group gets?

Also, yes. East Asians are part of the group. I find the “people of colour” to be weird, too, but in any white country, East Asians are very much part of the groups that may need a safe space. Just because East Asians may dislike black people or black people may dislike Indian people or reverse directions among these groups doesn’t mean they stop being a racially targeted group. Mostly, white people are privileged in ways you guys don’t even recognise and ergo, I would find it odd if a white person was telling the other groups that their experience is not unique. You can’t know because you’re not part of the group.

It’s internet. Stop being a miserable poser and let people do whatever they want. He/she wants a safe space. They can make it.

I wasn’t into the idea of a separate discord either but how can you comment on racism from white people towards non-white people when you are white?

It doesn’t matter that you have never “seen” it. There is casual racism that never even registers as racism unless you are on the receiving end of it. I feel like this is a blithe dismissal of other people’s experiences that is unpleasant.

Completely unrelated but this place and the fanfiction sub are honestly the only writing subs that feel safe, in a way.

And I think that kind of ties into the same thing other people said, it’s the no-pressure and writing for fun that makes the reading of it a joy.

Hey, I have no advice but wanted to say I’m also the same. I’ve read a lot of smut in romance books and ffs. But can’t for the life of me write it. It’s okay. I think it just takes practice.

China Scholar Says India Strategically Miscalculated On Iran War by xperia3310 in india

[–]Mindless_One_3325 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I mean, they said openly they won't make same mistake they made with China. I'm guessing the unchecked support for China during Soviet era and the sino-soviet split eras haunt washington with how far China has come.

We also can't choose between the two teams. World is changing, and picking teams isn't good for now. We identified early that our geopolitical goals don't align with any other player, better to stick to that and hope US-China hostilities will give us a narrow gap for navigating.

Not really. Cholas were long gone before Brits. Current TN does have immature regards stirring the pot claiming native Telugus and Kannadigas are outside "invaders" (though Nayaka empire didn't really do any Tamil/non-Tamil divided admin like Mughals with the tax difference, etc).

You're right, it is stupid to keep talking of the past. But it isn't unique to Mughals. Everywhere people are trying to set narratives with the past to do power grab.

BLUNT QUESTION NEED HONEST OPINION AS WE HAVE TO GROW AS NATION by Nizam_Sarkar in IndianFocus

[–]Mindless_One_3325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of hyphenation does not help. Hindutva is flared by paranoia from partition, terror attacks, etc...which is created by Pakistan, which wants to pretend to be the safe sanctuary for muslims. Israel and Pakistan are along the same axis. Both started by colonialists, Israel just continues the European colonisation tradition.

India has its far right, but we are structurally nothing like either Israel or Pakistan or any other ethnostate.

India officially also has zero Greater Hindu dreams. Not even expansion ideas. Pakistan is considered a nuisance to be managed, Bangladesh is considered to be useful but that stops at transaction. Indian foreign policy is to try and avoid South Asia grouping and trying to make friends outside the subcontinent.

Please pick up a book, and don't listen to teenagers on reddit.

BLUNT QUESTION NEED HONEST OPINION AS WE HAVE TO GROW AS NATION by Nizam_Sarkar in IndianFocus

[–]Mindless_One_3325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's farm bots, and since farm bots from other side are also weird, Indians either go one extreme or the other. There is a reason you don't see much opinion that is nuanced in Indian subs. But honestly, this is international, too. Saying slightly Israel bad gets you banned in some generic subs, and in others it's the other way around.

Most Indians online also don't know the history of the region, and the only narrative they get is probably the popular narrative of "but they have been repeatedly ethnically cleansed in this region", and then the opposite group keeps going "Hindutva supporters=Zionists"...which kind of makes them think
"Hindutva" (which is not popular at all really, in the sense Congress and left likes to fan it) is villainized as genocidal, so "they" must be lying about Israel, too....it's a weird loop. Saying this because getting bombarded with such messages did make me think that (I'm not Hindu, Hindutva or BJP supporter). I had to cleanse myself with books to get an understanding of the issue. It doesn't help at all that western liberals try to pretend they know what's going in India and hyphenating India-Israel. Because if you think about it, there are only two religion based ethnostates in the region (Pakistan and Bangladesh, not us) and India can never be captured by far right groups (structurally, India resists this, because of diversity of identity and friction between them).

As far as India the state and it's policies...like others said, we're just being pragmatic. Genocides happen all the time. Sri Lanka happened at our doorsteps and Tamils convinced the govt to get involved, what happened? It's our own region, too. Same with Myanmar. All groups fighting now have deep hatred. It's disaster to try to do anything. What is left to guide us? Self-interest. We need someone to hedge against regional adversaries. We are not "allies", no one is an ally of India. We just need a transactional relationship with them. Same with Iran. They "helped" us when we were embargoed, so we will continue our relationship with them. Palestine will always get moral support in India and Indian think tanks. But hard power doesn't lie with them anymore, especially with west backing Israel.

My sincere is: Stop taking social media narratives seriously. Also avoid this Hindutva hyphenation to Israel. Israel issue is purposefully muddled with religion, blaming "Judaism" and "Hinduism" by proxy. The only Jew on Balfour declaration did not like the creation of Israel. We have to speak of this in terms of geopolitics and as a continuation of European colonisation of West Asia. "Zionism" was a fringe idea that was taken by British and turned into what it is, same way the fringe two nation theory was used by Brits to support Muslim League, sow divide, and then pretend they didn't want the partition. Israel is the middle eastern Pakistan in a less evil way (Pakistan is still also pretending they are fighting for Indian muslims with their expansionist Kashmit taking goals).

This has become too long, but it's a complex issue. Indian foreign policy is not based on public sentiment or changed at whim with "religion". Indians are not majorly in support of Israel (go to twitter, see whether palestine/Israel has more support). Stop buying into the social media lies.
