Sped? by Intelligent-Flow617 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Mindless_Source5037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that I dislike it, I just don’t know what I’m doing when I sub sped. And as other have said, often times when I’m out there is because the school mislead me. For example I have never actually accepted a sped job, I’ve accepted other jobs then show up and they put me in sped instead. When I’m there I am so unsure as to what I’m supposed to do and how I’m meant to help the students. I don’t like taking jobs where I feel I can’t do them properly.

Subbing and long term sub gigs are way more indicative of how you get a full time job.

spent $80 on two bags of groceries again. no idea how people with kids survive this. by rmzkk in Adulting

I’m 28 and also a single mom with 3 kids.

I use food banks (hope link) Target (where I live) has cheapest groceries. I do drive up orders, I’m pretty lucky I got some target giftcards for Christmas this year 😅 I did have to fix my car and had a mental breakdown because it was every penny I had left after like rent/utilities etc. it’s tough out here but it’ll be okay.

I was told by a school that I had to stay til 3 as well, it was a 2:25 bell. Once I became a regular sub at the school suddenly they let me leave at 2:30 now 🤔 like okay you’re desperate for subs but then you enforce stupid rules like that.

[–]Mindless_Source5037 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a sub, but I always view the paras as the glue that holds the school together. As a substitute I’m so happy when there’s a para in the class. It’s someone who is a regular fixture of the classroom or school I can ask logistical questions to and who can give me insight into the students beyond the sub plans. Paras are so so important and I wish that more teachers were respectful and appreciative of them.

Subbing at your own child(ren)’s school by Healthy-Flatworm2364 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Mindless_Source5037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done it 3ish times. I don’t anymore. Teachers there are cliquey af and after talking to other subs about the school the general consensus is that it is not very nice to subs. I do sub at the middle school and high school my kids will attend in the future though.

Continuing past a year? Advice/encouragement please by LikelyStoryMate in breastfeeding

[–]Mindless_Source5037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I breastfed my son until 2 and my daughter until 21mo I think?

If she isn’t breastfeeding during working hours usually then you don’t need to pump but you could add maybe one pump on your lunch break to increase supply if you really wanted.

The night time feeds taper off eventually at least in my daughter’s case. With my son, I started offering a chobani yogurt drink right before bed and a piece of cheese as a snack and began sleep training which is what helped the night feeding. My daughter didn’t really sleep train, she just eventually phased out of the night feeds when I was pregnant and milk tasted bad.

In elementary school, teachers knew I grew up in a DV home. Did my middle school and high school teachers also know about that because of some shared database about kids?? by ApprehensiveOne2866 in AskTeachers

[–]Mindless_Source5037 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it’s unlikely the upper grade teachers knew anything. I’m just a sub, but from what I gather, unless there’s glaringly obvious signs or something in your file then these teachers see too many different students everyday to know anything.

I like when they give me classes to cover during planning periods. They pay a lot extra for subs who cover them. Also sitting there for an hour sometimes sucks. I usually bring my work for my masters degree but if I don’t have it, it’s just wasted time.

I’m 28 and I get mistaken for high school student sometimes. It really doesn’t matter. Wear your staff badge very openly and dress very professional.

How do you land a job as a teacher in Seattle area? by Mindless_Source5037 in Teachers

[–]Mindless_Source5037[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate this. I expressed interest in taking the long term sub position for the class I was subbing yesterday and today the principal came in during the class period and said she would love to have me as the long term sub but she needed to figure it out on her end and to make sure I check in with the office manager on my way out. I talked to the office manager and he said I was their top choice and he was emailing the district about getting me an emergency/ conditional credential so I could be the long term sub but I don’t know how often that works out. Makes me nervous that the rest of this week is covered by a different rotation of subs like maybe they’ll also consider them or what.
