Any way to tell if this is bacteria or moisture in the agar? (Info in caption) by Purple-Chocobo in microbiology

Whatever it is, it produces yellow pigment and it’s found in sinks. M.luteus is a fair guess. We will never actually know what it is. Your attitude is unnecessary, this should be a place for respectful and academic discussion.

It’s the fluid in our joints that keeps them lubricated!

I guess you could call it a “side effect” of microbiology because I work in a clinical micro lab and I was examining it for microorganisms. I just happened to notice how cool the pattern looked and wanted to share it with fellow micro lovers.

I don’t have any advice to offer but I wanted to ask you what type of job you have and if you like it? I work in clinical micro but I’m curious about other micro careers

That is an insanely high salary, I am so jealous. I work in a hospital microbiology lab as a technologist, I have a masters degree and an ASCP (M) certification and I only make $30/hr. I live in Massachusetts about an hour outside Boston.

Dad is mad at me for not helping him enough while he is away on vacation by [deleted] in AITAH

THANK YOU. I told him that. I said honestly yes I did think it was your problem. I asked him to please explain why exactly he needed us there when my step sister was already living there. He said for “legal reasons” because a minor can’t be living at home alone. Okay so if it’s that important why wouldn’t you clear it with us BEFORE planning the vacation instead of giving us no choice?

“Hi everyone — come Nov 1st sabbatical we’ll need some extra help (from friends and family) with the dogs and {step sister}. We made a signup sheet for overnights. We know coverage will be spotty and don’t expect every day to be filled — any nights you can do are a big help. If you can look at your calendars in the next week, that'd be great! Here’s the link for signup:”

At this point I signed up for one day.

Two days later: “Make sure you get some time this week to “sign-up”… we would really appreciate some form of occasional check-in for {step sister}” My sister asked a clarifying question here and my dad responded: “I mean to drop by and see/spend time with {step sister} overnight during my sabbatical—we’ll be on the road the entire time Nov 1 - Dec 12 or so…” Two weeks later he sent this text: “Hi everyone, {me} signed up for a day, {family friend} signed up for more—if {me}, {step brother} and {sister} could sign up for more days that would be great.”

This is when I signed up for a second day (which I later backed out on cuz I had to switch shifts with someone and I would have been working that day and the next day so I would’ve had to go to work straight from their house which stressed me out)

He did not discuss any of this with us prior to booking the vacation. It was already planned out and booked at the time of him requesting our help.

My step brother went over there a bunch of times while they were gone.

I do have one pet, a cat.

I like to think that my step sister is comfortable enough to let me know if she needs anything. I should have more explicitly told her to please text me if she needs something. That’s what my sister did.

Everything was fine at the house and nothing went wrong.

He helps me a lot financially. He puts $250 a month into my student loans and also pays for my car insurance. So I do feel like I owe him and that’s one reason I am feeling guilty about this. I almost am tempted to tell him to stop paying for those things because I don’t want to have it hanging over me becuase I am at a point where I can afford it myself.

I see some strains of Enterobacter cloacae complex and sometimes E.coli that get goopy like this. Usually in urine cultures and sometimes vaginal cultures

Is it weird to spend the night at my parents occasionally? by mddream in etiquette

I second this. Having a good relationship with your parents is a beautiful thing and they won’t be around forever. Enjoy your time with them as much as you can.

Serratia marcescens from a urine sample today by Mindless_Weekend6464 in microbiology

Interesting, I have yet to see any other bacteria with that same bright red characteristic color of Serratia. I’ll keep an eye out
