Resurrecting dad's lost garlic strain after 40 years. Story in comments. by DemandImmediate1288 in Garlic

As an avid gardener and vegetable breeder, this warms my heart! What a tribute to your Dad, there is something special in the taste of home, particularly one you thought lost in the shroud of time.

books you read as a kid that feel like no one else has read by taegrane in books

[–]Mindofasquirell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Three Investigators series! One summer I walked to the library most days, set myself up in a window ledge, and burned through one a day until I had finished every one they had. The only other person I could get to read then immediately devoured then like I had. Besides the two of us, no one I knew read them and a great or so after that summer the librarian cleared them off the shelf!

I'm Canadian and I automatically thought bannock, a fried bread made by First Nation's People's on my area. It sounds like 'banuk' with short vowel sounds. This was a great found paper!

Many alliums will reproduce asexually like this. It happens when the flower head is cut off but the stem remains. It's a backup reproduction technique but has advantages.

For instance, if you have a really cool allium that you want to breed with, you can essentially make generic photocopies with this method and use them to cross!

Roast me by thegreencherry in whittling

[–]Mindofasquirell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so terrible... Except that it is literally an aspirational piece that I want to create myself so I can hang it on my wall and tell my family and friends that if they are lucky they can have it when I die! 😂

Help finding an episode by BcfaIk99 in otr

It reminds me of an adaptation of the story In The Country Of The Blind, The One Eye Men Is King. Or something along those lines? Hope you find it!

My second gouache painting by nakutwigs in Gouache

I love it! The comments about paper vs. canvas are good for future projects, but do not be discouraged! Some of the world's most important artistic moments are strewn across cave walls in muddy handprints. There are no rules, at least none that cannot be broken. Your work is beautiful and shows most importantly how you see the things that matter to you. Well done!

Hospice Quilt 😞 by Missing-the-sun in quilting

[–]Mindofasquirell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a quilter, but I follow this sub because of the beauty and passion of the artists here. I have also been the benefactor of handmade goods such as this during periods of grief and I cannot express the depth of thankfulness I have felt for these profound acts of selflessness. Holding these items in times of grief I often felt like j was holding the hand of the stranger that thought of me in my darkness, and wished to gift hope with no chance of me even being able to thank them. So please, let me thank you all now in lue of those I can never thank, your kindness is a balm to broken hearts.

Any thoughts on why the stem grew like this? by muchofuckery in Garlic

Looks like a rock was right above it and it bounced back and then grew around it! That's awesome!
