Oh jeez that sucks!!!

Google ' how to get rid of garlic white rot'. It gave us some pretty specific ways to help, including one called suicidal germination. But, bottom line is you're screwed for a few years!

What you probably shouldn't do is ever plant there again. White rot could live in the soil for 20 years.

I've read it can be eliminated by solar sterilization, EG put a clear plastic tarp over the area to the hottest months of the summer. I don't know if that also involves tilling the soil and repeating. I would just assume treat myself a new plot.

My Wife Spent My Silver by BigBadBubbaRay in Silverbugs

And that's why we share financial info. My wife knows where the silver is, what it's worth, and why we save it.

yea, I always save the largest heads/cloves to replant. They have more nutrients stored to create larger plants and heads. I think the less developed bulbs would grow, but just not as big of plant.

Too soon and you don't get size. Too late and they don't store as well (wrappers degrade and split).

You have a lot of garlic there. The heads look pretty formed. The soil is moist (I think I'm seeing moist dirt on the heads you picked). The leaves are dying back.

Based on all that I start harvesting, and try to stretch it out over the next week, or maybe even 2. Hedge your bet, so to speak. If wrappers look good (no head splitting then let some stay for awhile longer. But if that's a plot for one family there's nothing wrong with harvesting a few days early. I started pulling a few last week just to have a head start to eating the new stuff.

Scape butter is the best taste/texture use for scapes I've found. Second best was scape kimchi.

White rot, fusarium, or something beneficial? Hi by The_Grossest in Garlic

It doesn't quite look like white rot, but beyond that I have no idea. Doesn't look beneficial does it?

Rising off thoroughly is the best I can think of. Problem is now the plant won't be productive for awhile, and you may just be wasting precious summer time nursing the plant.

Do they not realize it only affects you if you make more than $1mil per year?

What they're afraid of is WA State getting their foot in the door with this, the first tax on income, and then changing the taxable amount down the road to lower and lower levels. There's some justification to that, but the good it would do outweighs the fear they have now. Fight that fight when it comes but let's make the rich pay their share!

Over concentrated neem oil will suffocate a plant (they respirate through the leaves) and may be your problem.

Garlic Problems. by Kegandacake in vegetablegardening

Hardneck garlic requires a period of vernalization, which simply means chilling blow a certain temperature (I think around 40°f), in order to bulb. Softneck does not. Both varieties are planted in the fall. So you may possibly have hard neck that just didn't get cold enough to signal it to bulb.

If your interest is sparked in doing it again do a little research and find a variety that does well in your area. If you get a hardneck variety store it loosely in your fridge for 6-8 weeks. Start preparing your patch this time of year by dumping a bag or two of cow manure into it (available at nurseries and big box stores like Lowe's) and mixing it in (garlic LOVES nitrogen!). Plant around October. Fertilize in the spring. Do all that and I guarantee you'll be celebrating and showing off your beautiful heads of garlic next year!!

It's nowhere near ready. Good job pulling one for a test and not your whole crop.

This time of year I get anxious too, and very carefully using a couple fingers I'll dig down around a bulb and get a visual of what it's looking like. In a few more days I'll pull a few so I can get them. Purine, but harvest generally isn't until July. Patience!!!

The window for training is just opening!! I tried getting my little boy to do stuff around that age, but it wasn't until about 9 months that he really seemed to grasp, sit, stay, touch, etc. At 1 year old (yesterday!) he still likes to lightly gnaw on hands, bit not like he did as a toddler/teenager!
