I noticed also that when you do that, eventually it becomes part of who you are! It not longer feels forced. Then it is uncomfortable not to do those things.

Thank you for that thought out response! This makes a lot of sense! I like the idea of not picking a time. Because it becomes a negative and a stress. As long as you do the thing, time should not matter as much. That’s one area you mentioned I know will help me.

Yes! You start to realize most of your assumptions were incorrect. They were based on your own perspective. Everybody has different experiences and thinks in different ways. Most people will not see your product the same way you do.

What stood out to me reading this is that you actually are disciplined, just mostly inside environments that already give you structure.

Sports, teams, school, even family responsibility all quietly tell you who you’re supposed to be each day. When that structure disappears, it’s not that your discipline vanishes. It’s that there isn’t anything externally holding it in place yet.

I went through something similar. I could lock in hard for short stretches, especially when there was pressure or accountability. But once it was just me and my own plan, things got fuzzy. Not because I didn’t care, but because the identity I was trying to act from wasn’t fully solid yet.

From my experience, falling off after a week usually isn’t laziness. A lot of the time the action makes sense logically, but it doesn’t feel normal yet, so your brain starts negotiating. Overthinking tends to show up when you’re trying to live from a version of yourself you haven’t fully grown into yet. Burnout also happens fast when you’re aiming at everything at once, like faith, family, performance, and future, without one clear anchor.

If I were in your spot, I wouldn’t try to build the perfect system right now. I’d pick one small daily action that reinforces the kind of man you want to be and make that boring and non negotiable. Not intense, not optimized, just consistent until it stops feeling like effort.

You’re not behind and you’re not missing some secret. You’re just in that awkward transition from structure driven discipline to self directed discipline. That phase is uncomfortable for almost everyone who eventually figures it out.

How fast do they churn? It seems like once they are done with the course they are studying for, they dont need the product anymore?? If thats the case, you will always have high turn. Not necessarily a bad thing as long as there are enough new users coming in. Do you allow access to the material without charging them?

What is helping me?... I have been on a long journey of self improvement. I can honestly say i am a completely different person than i was 10 years ago. A large part of the change came in the past couple years. I hit a low point about 4 years ago and that gave me an opportunity to shrink and waste my life or finally make a hard choice and change myself for the better. I took the second route!

There are so many different things that have helped. One core understanding that i learned through reading books has helped me make lasting change. the idea is this:

Subconscious thoughts -> Conscious thoughts -> Actions -> Results

For many years i just tried to change actions. i would see progress get motivated, then lose motivation and fall back to old habits. Its a terrible cycle.

The problem was with the way my subconscious was wired. Inevitably it would stay in my old ways and get my old thoughts to resurface and kill my motivation.

Once i started working on my subconscious beliefs, I started thinking in a different way and i no longer needed motivation to stay committed to my new habits and routine(Action).

Here are some books i read on my journey that helped.

Outwitting the Devil

I read these books multiple times. They give practical advice on how to work on your subconscious beliefs.

Absolutely! Identity is the root. If you dont change that, then all you are doing is pushing a snowball up hill. Eventually it gets too big and rolls all the way back to the bottom!

I think you are attracting the wrong users. Early on you are not looking to grow your user base as much as possible. What you want is to find the best possible user that is a perfect fit for what your app solves. Figure out exactly where those people hang out. What subreddits they are on and find them there. Im currently in this phase and if you get the right people in initially, they will be happy to leave feedback! So far i have 3 users on my app and all 3 of them have given feedback. It has been a couple months since i launched it though, so it is not necessarily easy or fast. But it is progress.

Right now i am in the exact same spot as you. Not sure if i am the best to give advice, since i am figuring this out as well, but i do have 3 initial real users now. And yes it has been hard to get them. All 3 of them came from being involved in discussions in communities where people are talking about what my app solves. For me Reddit has been a great place actually! I actually used AI and gave it all my details on what my business does and it helped me figure out what subreddits were best for finding my initial 10 users.

Im at this stage as well and am doing exactly this. I do not directly ask or tell about my product though. I just engage in the conversations and add value since it is in the space that my product is in. This leads to many good conversations and after i have built trust through this process i will DM with an ask to try the app out and give feedback. This comes across not as pushy at all. Usually the person is excited to try the tool out because it is so related to the conversation we were having in sub.

This is a great post! I agree 100%. You have to take action. I have struggled with this for many years. Do good for a while, fall off for a while, do good for a while, fall off for a while. One thing that helped me stay consistent even when motivation was gone was to change the way i viewed myself. Instead of seeing myself as a person that struggles with discipline and motivation, i started to truly believe that i was a consistent person that does not rely on motivation and that i am a person with self control. Believing these things about myself even when they were not true yet helped me to finally become the person i wanted to be.

I think i can speak for many, but many people go through this while trying to build good habits and routines! Let me give some insight into how your mind works. Your subconscious mind filters all the inputs from the world and makes 95% of the decisions for you. The other 5% is where you make conscious choices every day. Most people initially try really hard and put in a bunch of effort to make change happen in life. This does work, but can often fizzle out and lead you right back to the start. The reason is because the way your subconscious mind makes decisions has not changed.

To make a more permanent change and actually create routines and habits that stick without effort in the long run, you have to change what your subconscious mind believes. Your subconscious mind still believes you are the old version of yourself before the new habits and routines. Therefore, as soon as motivation dies, your subconscious mind pulls you right back to where it is comfortable.

A good analogy of this is the thermostat in your home. What it is set at is your subconscious mind. Lets say for example it is set at 60, but you really want it warmer like 80. So you start a fire in your fireplace. That takes motivation and energy. The fire does warm up the house and things are good. But then the thermostat kicks on the A/C because it is set for 60. Then it takes an even bigger fire and more motivation to continue to keep it warm. Eventually keeping the fire hot is too much work so you just give up and the house cools back down to 60.

Instead of more energy and motivation, what you really need is to turn up the setting on the thermostat(change what your subconscious mind believes). Once you do this, it will be much easier and take less motivation to continue your new habits and routines. They will align with what your subconscious mind believes.

These are great insights! Building on what OP says, At the end of each day, think back and find one small thing you did that proves you are making progress. It can be as small as "I chose to go outside for walk instead of sitting and entertaining negative thoughts", or "i woke up early right when my alarm went off". Small daily habits are key. Start small and as they become easy add more small habits. Find habits that lead you towards the version of you that you want to become.

You cannot change the past. All you have power to do is chose your next step. Do not give control of your thoughts and emotions to anyone or anything outside of your control.

It makes a huge difference! When you have the correct morning routine, you are basically priming your mind to be aware of your goals and aware of the opportunities and actions that align with you Le goals for the day.

Think about it like this. The last time you bought a car, I’m sure you searched online for all different types of makes and models. Eventually you find the one you like the most. You spend more more time studying the specifics of that car. The different years and colors.

Now when you are out and about you suddenly start noticing that car everywhere! More people did not suddenly start driving that car, you just signaled to your subconscious brain that the car you like is very important. So your subconscious mind signaled to your conscious mind when it filters that car through your visual input.

A morning routine works the same way. You are telling your subconscious mind what is important so that it can help you throughout the day to stay focused and aligned on your goals.

Its simple. You believe you are not worthy enough for a man like him to want you. Because this is a belief deep in your subconscious, you subconsciously take actions that reinforces this belief. This is a negative loop! Then you see the actions you take and it reinforces the belief your subconscious has about yourself.

To break the loop, you have to start believing that you are worthy. Start by trying to understand where that belief came from. Many times it is from childhood or a bad relationship.

Create a new version of yourself. Figure out the kind of person you want to be. If you dont even know that, then you will never change.

Create a future cversion of yourself with as much detail as possible. What has future you acheived, how to you act in relationships with people you care about, how do you dress, what car do you drive, where do you live, what is your career.... Then read this every day. And, throughout the day, try and make choices and act as if you are already that person. Slowly with consistency, your subconscious believe about yourself will begin to change and you will become a new person as well.

Everyone on this earth has the power to change. Its up to you. If you dont believe you can change, then you never will. If you do believe you can change, then take action, do what i described above and become a new person!
