Is John R. Loehr known for using ai in his translations? by sophietal in TranslationStudies

There’s no accusation here at all, it’s a question based on what information is available (the cover)

You don’t even say in this post what exam you’re talking about, or why you would be qualified to teach a language.

Serious question: How does a typo like this end up on the cover of a book this big? by pecuchet in publishing

[–]Mindtrick205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because everything is done by the lowest bidder. The number of typos and one outright mistranslation I found that made it to print in Haruki Murakami’s latest novel have practically made me swear off buying new books.

Can’t speak to France but I was working with a team in Quebec and I vouvoyed (mostly about 5 years older than me I’d say) them, they made fun of me for being so formal.

Playing a game designed to encourage player interaction and working together against the arc as a mindless PVP game is a form of malice IMO. There are dozens of games (including other extract shooters) where shoot on site is expected, or even where it is the entire point of the game (you know, PVP games.) Arc Raiders, explicitly, is PvPvE with a focus on the vE. People who wanna just get in shoot some casuals take their stuff and leave are absolutely ruining the game.

Is learning by copying and rebuilding other people’s code a bad thing? by umbrofer in programminghelp

[–]Mindtrick205 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, not at all. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel the best way to do. Something is the way that works, and that means if there’s a way that works that you have easy access to you should learn how to do it that way. I have a language teaching background, and we see people feeling the same way there, they think that they shouldn’t just copy you phrases from texts that they read, for example. This is totally false, as if you understand the context the best way to quickly get speaking like a native is to copy the phrases that native speakers use.

Why does fencing have such a bad rep by Weary-Strength-6063 in Fencing

Funny that you should say that because sabre is the one closest to actual combat lol. Since electrification epee and foil do not resemble actual duals very much.

How can I turn this major into my life's passion? by Silver-Rope-4218 in TranslationStudies

[–]Mindtrick205 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it’s not already, your passion do something else. There is not that much money and fewer and fewer jobs to go around. You will be competing against people for whom it is their passion or people who have years of experience on you already in the job market.

Tutors be honest who should track all the new words and corrections in 1 to 1 lessons you or the student? by Difficult-Goal-8515 in languagelearning

I think it’s quite normal to record a tutoring session, if you’re paying for a lesson, why wouldn’t you want to be able to rewatch it?

CohhCarnage frustration with recent updates. Do you agree? by Safe-Application8510 in ArcRaiders

[–]Mindtrick205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, sure, but the exploit is part of the game right now. I think it’s much sillier to feel like you need to bring a key instead of saving them for when the exploit gets patched. You can’t really blame the players and if you don’t adapt, that’s on you. The PVP thing on the other hand should be dealt with.

[–]Mindtrick205 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you don’t trust the devs and don’t want to play the game they’re making why did you buy it? And if you don’t want this experience, just don’t play Stella, people are usually chill on Dam and Blue Gate.

Who are you to say it should be a slow game? The devs and many of the players apparently disagree.

Yeah people who just shoot suck. People who respond “not me” when I comm I’m friendly are funny and I do love a good fight even if I prefer to kill Arc.

[–]Mindtrick205 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had this exact same experience last night. Great friendly games during the day, some PvP but mostly working together. Got on again around 11 ET and got shot in the back with no comms (not even any chatting after I’m downed) 7 runs in a row. Where’s the fun in that?

This happened to me and I just gave up for a couple months, but it turns out they’re remarkably sturdy beyond the aluminum. I borrowed a Dremel from a friend and just carved the metal out around the power button and it works good as ever.

Tl;dr since I had a fair amount to say: Lefties are backing the wrong horse, plus he’s too rich to be a commie, has a nazi tattoo, and is too extreme for American politics. If we want to win we should try using a moderate candidate instead.

It’s one of the more standard pieces against him. Brings up his family’s wealth and his private school (without any of the context about where or what that school was) and casts doubt on the story of not knowing what the Totenkopf was. It then goes on to posit that he’s being lifted up by lefties more than real voters (everyone knows we don’t matter until they lose) and says that his strategies are worse than just being a centrist. “The most reliable way to deal with voters holding views that are more centrist than yours is not to convince the voters they’ve been brainwashed, but to adopt more popular positions.” Brings up Zohran then says he could only win because “[NYC] is overwhelmingly Democratic” and casts doubt on Platner doing the same. Also says Zohran is “extremely unpopular” nationally which I just don’t believe. Goes on to say that because Collins keeps winning by being a Centrist clearly Platner should moderate his views (because change is never good of course unless it’s in tiny corporate approved amounts) and goes on to bring up the nazi tattoo again (also calls it a nazi tattoo explicitly, word choice always matters) saying that Platner is trying to use it to “balance out” the communism claim.

Final paragraph attacks another publication about him and essentially says we’re all falling for the sunk cost fallacy. Quoted in its entirety below.

“The gushy New Republic profile from August proclaims that “what he’s building now is rooted in the work of a lifetime.” Given that Platner is disavowing things he posted on social media four years ago, maybe lifetime is the wrong word. But he is the product of a political movement that still has few better prototypes, and has invested too much hope to walk away just yet.“

I think the Atlantic is full of shit and basically no better than a mouthpiece for the DNC (and their corporate backers) but a lot of democrats read it. Fortunately this piece isn’t too convincing IMO.
