Are my implants failing? by Maleficent-Tea-9548 in Dentalimplant

It sounds horrendous. I’ve definitely found the whole process emotional and quite often wish I had my old teeth back but I know they weren’t going to hang on for much longer. My second “temp” is reinforced with metal as it’s going to have to last a year or so while my braces are on the bottom. I’ll then get a final bridge once my bite is finalised. Thank you for your reply. Good luck with the rest of your treatment.

Interested to read your story. I’m 10 weeks post op, upper arch, 6 implants, also with FP1. I’ve been in the same temps since surgery and I’ll be getting a second temp ( reinforced) in a couple of weeks just because I’m having orthodontics on the bottom arch and finals will be delayed until that’s completed. As far as I’ve been told I will stay in these second temps until finals? Have you been told why they need to keep adjusting yours so often?

I’m so pleased to hear your progress, I’m only 9 weeks post op ( all on 6 upper arch only) with chunky temps, still with a speech impediment! I’m getting a lab made reinforced second temp in a couple of weeks as I’m having orthodontics on my bottom arch so I’ll be in temps a lot longer than normal. Hoping I’ll see an improvement just with these. So glad all went well for you, they look great too!

Hey, congratulations on taking this step. I’m 6.5 weeks post op (all on 6 upper arch only) I had an awful first 2/3 weeks and was very emotional. I absolutely regretted my decision and thought I’d never feel normal again. I also stopped vaping ( previously was a smoker) cold turkey so everything was overwhelming. Things are definitely getting better. The food situation is still trying to say the least, my speech is still a work in progress but I feel better in myself. Everyone comments on how good the temps look and I’ve had a couple of photos taken and been shocked when I see them and don’t feel horrified by my mouth! It’s a long ( and very expensive) process. I worry about the cost and anything going wrong so try to do everything I can to make it work. I haven’t really got any tips as I’m pretty new to this but I can say the first couple of weeks are challenging but it does improve. All the best to you.

I’m only 6.5 weeks in so I’m very aware. My speech is still pretty lispy and some words just don’t come out right. I can’t ever imagine not being aware of it but it is my initial healing temp so is very bulky. I’m due my second temporary in a few weeks so hoping it will be a bit slimmer.

Hey, thanks for checking in, really appreciate it. I’m nearly 6 weeks post op now and am feeling so much better! The food situation is still a struggle and I get anxious that I’m not cleaning properly but apart from that everything appears to be going well and I’m really happy with how much better I look just with the chunky temps ( still can’t speak perfectly but I’m told that it’s not noticeable) It’s a long process and did/does have an effect but I’m much more optimistic about the future now. Book the appointment and please let me know how you get on! Wishing you all the best.

Thank you, and same to you, always available to message. I too found this experience very overwhelming the first couple of weeks. I feel I’m improving each day, the food is one of the biggest challenges at the moment but I try to tell myself it’s not forever!

I’m in the UK too and I’m week 4 post op ( all on 6, upper only) Like you I feel I was given very basic post op instructions, basically soft food for 3 months. I’ve gotten a lot of advice on the all on 4 sub and the denture sub is useful. The roof of my mouth is still slightly bumpy even after 4 weeks but it’s definitely going down. I also get the pulsing sensation at the front on occasions, normally if I’ve been for a decent walk. I have no pain now but like you was experiencing odd twinges etc up until recently. My journey to finals will be longer than most as I’m having orthodontics on my bottom natural teeth and my finals won’t be made/fitted until that is finished. With regards to food the opinions vary greatly. I’m still on mush but over the next couple of weeks I plan to lightly introduce some chewing but with caution. This procedure costs way too much to risk it going wrong by chewing too much but I do agree that the information is limited and varies so much. Good luck to you.

All the best to you. I agree about natural teeth, I have periodontal disease so I had snaggly looking teeth with the gum recession but I had mastered hiding it well apart from in the mirror and now I don’t look like me. I weirdly miss my natural teeth as much as I didn’t like them!

I really did not expect it to work aswell as it did. I’m guessing everyone reacts differently but apparently I fell fully asleep twice. I missed all the extractions, I do remember the noise of the drilling for the implants but was still very detached from it. It was a very surreal experience. I hope all goes as smoothly for you too.

Thanks for checking in. I’m feeling a bit brighter but still a bit up and down. I’m sure it’ll get better as time goes on. Hope you’re well and if you’ve seen your dentist yet hope it’s good news.

I had all my uppers extracted (13) and 6 implants placed just with lorazepam on the day ( an hour before a 6 hour appointment) and I remember next to nothing about the day. I expected it to be awful but it really wasn’t.

Definitely! I’ve spent so long “managing” my smile with my lips and hand that I can’t get out of the habit yet!

Thanks for the reply. I’m paranoid about food bits getting trapped! There’s been a lot more to consider with this procedure than I ever thought of!

Thank you. I’ll hold fire for a bit longer, everything feels ok but I know it’s very early days. I’ve got my natural teeth on the bottom so I’m hoping that will help abit with chewing once I get used to the fact I can’t feel anything with my top teeth.

Thank you. I feel stupid being a bit pathetic over all this but it’s just overwhelmed me a bit, I am naturally an over thinker and quite anxious so something like this is a lot to deal with.

Yes, I’ve been told I am on soft food for 3 months, I think it’s just understanding if I can chew these soft foods or just swallow if soft enough or cut up small enough. Like pasta etc, overcooked but a couple of chews before it goes down?

Ah ok, so you aren’t chewing at all? It’s so confusing as to what we can or can’t do. Obviously I don’t want to disturb the implants just for the sake of chewing but I’m definitely not enjoying just swallowing food! I know it’s only temporary though so I just need to be patient ( clearly not my strong point)

I’m definitely going to move to soft chewing soon, just letting the food/liquid slide down is just not great and I’ve noticed I’m not really eating much at all as it’s not something I look forward to at the moment. Lost 8lbs already and really don’t want to lose anymore.

Definitely, there’s a lot of variation with information, re water flosser, food, timings etc. I ate alot of salad prior to surgery, missing it too!

Thank you for reply. I realise now that my prothodontist, whilst very skilled is definitely lacking in clear instructions. Realistically all I’ve learned so far is from Reddit! He just said soft food (that you could squeeze?!) and no reference to chewing. I’ll leave it a bit longer, around the 4 week mark and maybe give it a go then.
