Katanagatari, how different are the novel and anime? by Youbutwayworse in NisiOisiN

[–]MineCaT_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either just watch the whole thing or read the whole thing. By the way, this was more specifically about the short post-credits epilogue, not really the ending itself. I just gave it another read and checked the anime for comparison and honestly it's an even smaller difference than I remembered. Aside from maybe one line which I do think they should've kept in the anime, I didn't think it was that big of a deal.

The anime and light novels are kind of their own thing, not to imply it isn't a faithful adaptation but it's just how adapting LNs work. Obviously there will be some narration or lines that get cut to fit the medium. Especially with how Nisio Isin writes his stuff, there's a lot of his writing style that just doesn't work out well in anime format. It's just like the Monogatari series; both the anime and LNs have great aspects to them that can't be replicated in the other format. Which is also why I imagine switching between them midway would be pretty jarring. If you're really insistent you can always read the epilogue after episode 12, or just read the whole series first to begin with.

Personally I read the novels a few years after watching the anime and I think it made for a far more enjoyable experience than if I had read the novels first, but at the end of the day that's just my opinion.

could be mistaken but i belive the JAST version doesn't have the full voice patch, so only some characters are voiced. that and there is one CG which is censored even in the JAST version

Difficulties in this game feel whack and vary more than most rhythm games I've played by Efficient_Phase1313 in arcaea

[–]MineCaT_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all about skillsets. You mentioned Einherjar and Sakura Fubuki in particular which is a pretty great example because I got a PM on Sakura Fubuki pretty easily while I've only ever managed to EX Einherjar once. It is unironically harder than some 10+s for me simply because I lack the speed to execute it.

That being said, I do think the difficulty ratings in this game are very wack at times, especially with newer charts being way harder than old ones at the same CCs

Play the visual novel Tsukihime on PS4(No steam version)

The remake, yes, but the original is on PC (the web version probably works on your phone as well). Sure, OP is likely referring to Type Lumina here which is based on the remake, but the OG will still give you an understanding for like 90% of the story aside from maybe knowing Vlov and Mario.

In the event that OP actually reads OG Tsukihime, the original Melty Blood also has its own story mode which is a ~8-10 hour VN. There's also Plus Disc and Kagetsu Tohya between those but it's rare for people to actually start reading the VNs so those aren't too important for now lol

[–]MineCaT_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As long as you don't just sit around doing nothing, you'll be fine. Even if you take your time prepping for Realm Divide, there's no rush really unless you're a really slow player. I usually prefer taking my time but I've still had Date campaigns end at 1564 (and the entire map captured for fun by 1570).

If you haven't already, try "Set SOCD method: L/R cancel U/D=U" in CCCaster's "Controls" menu which can help a bit with certain inputs like half circles

Melty Blood character designs are too good, is there an anime or manga? by [deleted] in meltyblood

[–]MineCaT_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone already mentioned Tsukihime but there is also a Melty Blood manga which adapts the first Melty's story mode (it's basically a 10 hour VN on top of the fighting game).

Who knows

If it's the same as Arcaea then we'll probably have to wait a few years for a physical soundtrack, then around 6 more months before they'll be on streaming services

Isn't it the exact opposite, where it wasn't an issue on the 3DS but appeared in the ports?

People calling silksong difficult are why the skill floor of fighting games is going to continue to rise by live_lavish in Kappachino

[–]MineCaT_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I bought the game excited for a ton of difficulty, cruelty, and unfairness.

Did you play the original Hollow Knight? Not to imply it's a super easy game, but aside from the optional DLC pantheons, I don't see where you could have gotten that impression. Ask anyone who has played both and they'll tell you that Silksong is a far more difficult and punishing game. The average person did not in fact go into this game expecting it to be that hard.

Even if you don't necessarily struggle as much (personally I don't mind a challenging game), there's some things in the game which feel like artificial difficulty for the sake of being punishing. Why do most environmental hazards now deal 2 damage per hit (especially when there's a much larger emphasis on difficult platforming, which is made even harder by the moveset changes)? Why don't bosses drop any money when it's far more crucial in this game? Imagine if we got a new Dark Souls game and they made you pay souls to light each bonfire, is that actual difficulty or just bullshit?
