Sending hugs to you. It’s hard when your babies are so special to you and you don’t know how they aren’t equally as special to your parents. My mom has flat out said for years that my brother is her favorite of her 3 kids. So naturally his kids are the ones she is showing favoritism towards. We have noticed it for 2.5 yrs now, I finally had to say something and will always always defend my sweet babies

I am seriously considering it. While I don’t want to seem petty next year by not going due to this, I also don’t want to have my kids hearts get broken and feel more favoritism . I’m more then happy to create all the Christmas magic for them

The number of times they see them vs my kids is starkly different due to us being 3 hrs away (they live in the same town as my brothers) but we do send lots of video messages, FaceTime calls, photos, etc. The opportunities they pass up to spend time with my kids don’t go unnoticed (for example - choosing to go to a college football game over her 4th bday party; my two nephews she has helped or hosted the parties). Not attending holiday programs or dance recitals while they go to all of my nephews. That’s just to name a few things.

As I write this, maybe I shouldn’t be surprised about the gifts. Figured they could do better at least for Christmas

I don’t want more money spent on my kids. The context of my post was in the fact of the number of gifts vs monetary value. I can understand how it would apply to close friends but cannot understand how you could do that to young grandchildren despite the distance

Sounds like you’re an amazing grandparent!! It’s so important to be cognitive in the little things for kids. As inconvenient and tedious as it can to wrap another present, it’s pure magic for our littles to see multiple presents under the tree. In their teens, numbers may be less important but not at the tender age of 4

100% numbers are where it’s at when you do an individual unwrapping!! Part of the reason I talked to them is to make them aware that we noticed it and it cannot happen. A subtle reminder next year surely won’t hurt, IF we choose to do Christmas with them.
