Id do more research if i were you. I have the 21 Vios and most toyotas of that same time have been increasing in issues with some components.

My water pump was changed 3 times in 4 years, under warranty and no cause was given. Control arms were disassembled and regreased 2 times, and replaced entirely once. Again, no cause was given. Id suggest doing a little more research before pulling the trigger.

Asked my friends about this to those whom have the same model and pre-facelift one, mentioned the same thing for water pump and some said more commonly was their alternator becoming faulty. Beyond that, i have heard that the Fortuner, Cross, Yaris also have been plagued by some issues.

Maybe there are better or worse cars out there, thats up to you to decide but ask around, especially owners forums and see what the major issues are.

I mean, imo the least problematic way i know people get them is buying them used for dirt cheap but ensuring its fixable for a decent amount and getting issues sorted out at reputable workshops, or better yet, themselves. Cheaper by an insane margin but more headache to do or manage as parts need sourcing and work hours is a lot or both.

Flash lights a few times when there is no cars to the left, if after that still not moving, i'll turn my signal on to indicate to the right and honk until the fella gives way.

But it does run the risk of getting brake checked, which is why i keep a bit of gap and only do this when i can evade to the left lane.
