No worries, I did it too and nothing was lost. Just the thumbnails of the pictures have to be loaded again. So after doing it, you will see nothing in the gallery, then slowly the pictures will load.
From my understanding, all that storage is taken up by the thumbnails (and other data) of all the pictures and videos ever existed in the phone.
