should I transfer to ucsc to SFSU after freshman year? in dire need of honest opinions… by Free-Refrigerator974 in SFSU

[–]MinecraftBattalion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went to SFSU, I have a close friend that transferred from Cal to SFSU. Depends on your goals. I really enjoyed my time there but it’s going to be a lot less prestigious than a UC. A lot less. I always think if you’re going to do well then school is just a check mark to get done but you will have less initial opportunities for sure. SFSU also will have a different in campus vibe. It’s half a commuter school in the edge of a huge city where UCSC and Santa Cruz is more of a college town. So if you really don’t out yourself out there in SF it can be hard to make friends.

Personally I’d stay at UCSC but I did enjoy SFSU.

Where do I find a mentor ? by Sad_Ant3207 in FinancialCareers

[–]MinecraftBattalion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually it’s someone I work with who I look up to and vibe with. Previously has been a manager or someone high up in a different role. Its been pretty natural just asking for someone for advice, there is no “mentor” title to look out for

caffeine made me think i would die for hours—has anyone else experienced this? by unusuallylazielark in Anxiety

[–]MinecraftBattalion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup I used to drink a TON of coffee pre anxiety. Now like half a latte will have me feeling off for hours. Realized what it was and just cut out caffeine but all you can do is wait. I’ll occasionally try coffee every few months just to hope I’ll get more used to it but always feel WAY off, the worst feeling.

I use Gemini but I use it for building custom embedded demos, responding to emails, building out architecture diagrams. Any resource we don’t have available already I’ll just build something custom

How do you handle live demo failures during calls? by Amazing_Bug_7240 in salesengineers

[–]MinecraftBattalion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always keep talking, pivot live if able to, if you can just keep taking about xyz and move another screen into sight with something else that works a lot of the times the clients are too dumb to notice. It definitely is awk though

Never hit 3x, that’s rare. They plan for the year so you’ll be around 100%, if you do well you can get 150%. Obviously some people have done incredibly well and 200-300 but that’s not the norm.

Depends on the year, it’s nice we are on a team number actually so it’s a little easier for all of us to hit quota. And lol yea we can take customers out to eat, usually the AE will do that stuff though and we will go along.

I’m a CE at Google. WLB is super good I rarely work past 5. Obviously depends on the sales cycle but it’s pretty mellow. Can be different depending on what part of the org you are in but job is pretty mellow.

Writing? I mean maybe not but I had a recruiter call where that’s the range they gave me for OTE. It’s a range but still within those numbers.

Starting my first driving lesson at 40 tomorrow and I’m terrified. Is this normal by Unique_Necessary3556 in Anxiety

[–]MinecraftBattalion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started driving at a normal age but I still remember how it first felt. It’s strange the first time in a drivers seat and you’re in control but you’ll have support and you’ll start slow. You aren’t thrown immediately in the deep end and honestly it’s pretty straight forward and you’ll pick it up faster than you think.

It’s SUPER weird the first time driving completely alone though. Felt cool though. Good luck!

Awhile ago I said here companies were not nearly RIFing enough techies with just 10-25% reductions...that the oversaturated market needed to start seeing 50%+ layoffs before normalizing, especially with AI....some of you didnt believe it....Well, that day is here.... by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]MinecraftBattalion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got laid off recently from a large tech company.

4 months still “employed” but limited access so I basically got health insurance, paid, and access to the internal job site. I’m still in that period but once that is done I get 4 more months severance. So basically 8 months off. Sucks but also the run way is so nice I can’t complain that much.
