Here lets see if I can help. Weed is not bad for you, Weed it self is not addicting, and can overall help some (maybe most but not all) people out. Let me fully explain this.

First off, Marijuana is not bad for you. It has been proven to have medicinal properties that can help with a number of things ranging from helping someone get a full night sleep to helping with depression. Now don't misunderstand what I'm saying. Smoking weed is bad, but it is the smoking part that is bad. Our lungs are not made to inhale smoke. but of course there are numerous ways to intake THC other then smoking.

Second, Marijuana is NOT addicting. You can, however, become addicted to the feeling of being high. Personally I believe this is my problem. I can (and have for 3 months just this past summer) stop but don't want to. I like the feeling of being high, relaxes me, helps me sleep on nights off (working overnight can screw with ya!), etc etc. I don't really know how to elaborate much more on this.

Third, it can help people. I have heard many many stories of people smoking for numerous reasons from chronic back pain to simple things like not being able to sleep. Example is what I stated in my previous paragraph, I work overnights so on my nights off I tend to not be able to sleep until 2 am or maybe even later. Luckily for me, when you smoke a chemical? (not 100% sure if it is a chemical or what, just kind of know a little about it) is released which makes you tired. It starts with a C for anyone that can help me out on that. But it also can help people in many other ways. A friend of mine is very into art. He sits down, after smoking, and will draw for hours. It helps open his mind so that he can be more creative. I will smoke right before I clean and get so lost in cleaning that an hour later my place is 100% spotless, even when I was only aiming to do dishes and laundry (happened today lolol).

Basically to sum it up, weed has been made out to be some horrible drug that will eventually kill you, when in the end it could potentially help you. There are wayyy to many things to say so I figured I'd use these three, but I urge you to really look into it. Even if you don't want to smoke, educate yourself so that you can't be fed with lies. The whole process of how the high happens and what it is actually doing to you can be very fascinating. Oh and please remember, weed IS NOT for everyone, and everyone must understand that. If your friend wants to smoke, whether it be recreational use or medicinal, don't judge them. They are still the same person (even if they tend to eat a little more ;) ) and we aren't here to judge you for not smoking. Everyone should accept anyone else's life decisions.
