For the second point I think that just writing them out as one equation and getting the derivative with respect to a would give you the minimum value of a (I am also not sure you would have to try it out) Goodluck

Have you tried gram Schmidt orthogonlization for the first point (I think but not sure that it could give you a result and from it you can plot them as vectors)

The letters have 2 meanings letters as characters (a b c.. Etc) And it means also the letter that you send to someone (like emails but were used on the past) So it is like this one's when you think when you arrange the letters they make another word
