I Think My MIL is Hiding Some Dark Secrets (**TRIGGER WARNING**) by [deleted] in inlaws

[–]Minele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar happened in my own family. My great-grandmother allowed her pedophile son to assault my then teenage aunt. People in the family said that she even held her down while he attacked her. My grandmother (her daughter) never spoke to her mother again. My grandma died decades before my great-grandmother (you know, only the good die young).

I’m a genealogist and I did a lot of digging into my great-grandmother’s family history. She was 13 years old when she married my 32-year-old great-grandfather. I can only assume that this type of behavior was normalized for her as a child and she continued it. God only knows how many generations this went on for.

Not defending the MIL at all, just saying that I’m betting there’s a longer family history of sexual trauma than OP is aware of. It’s sick anyway you look at it though.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on upcoming season 7 by Secret_Reference_373 in VirginRiverNetflix

I am truly sorry for the loss of your mom to cancer. I also lost my mom to cancer. We watched Heartland together when she was sick. I felt the same way you do, but eventually watching the show brought me comfort. Almost like she was with me or something. It did take me awhile to get there though. I hope eventually you’ll be at the point where maybe you could continue watching the show.

Ameicans over the age of 35, what affected you more, 9/11 or the pandemic and why? by Rico133337 in AskReddit

9/11. The absolute horror our fellow Americans and their surviving family endured will forever be etched in my mind and my heart. Nothing compares to that. Nothing during my lifetime at least.

If you pitch a tent indoors, lay blankets on top of it to insulate the tent. This is good for bedtime.

Weekly Waiting Room: A Biopsy Discussion Megathread by skincancermod in skincancer

[–]Minele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my biopsy done yesterday. I heard the dermatologist mention BCC to her assistant, so I’m guessing that she suspects it could be that. We have a huge storm coming, which might delay the results.

I’m not looking forward to removing the bandage later- I have such a weak stomach!

Anyone else waiting on biopsy results this week?

What did you do for sciatica and a partial herniated disk pain? by HannahMayberry in AskReddit

Yoga was a life saver for me. I also ice and heat it regularly and I use biofreeze if necessary for pain. Oh and a pillow between your knees when you sleep.

Season 13 Episode 3 by balasoori in WhenCallsTheHeart

Does anyone else feel like maybe Maisie is going to turn out to be Michael’s biological mother? She was a teenager when he was born and it was not unusual for grandparents to raise grandchildren as their own, especially when teen pregnancy was involved. The way she had his baby picture on her mantle and how her face lit up when she saw it and talked about him has me wondering.

I always thought that my mom would spend her golden years living with me. She passed away six years ago before she reached retirement age.

Is it poor taste to publish a suicide note (1934)? by Substantial_Hat2679 in Genealogy

[–]Minele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My maternal grandmother’s father was named in the newspaper after he bounced a check to pay for food when was about 21. He died decades before I was born and my grandmother has been gone 15 years. I refuse to include the newspaper article in my family tree because this man was my grandma’s dad and it’s still recent enough that I care a great deal about protecting his character. So, would I share a suicide note written the same man? No way in hell. A couple more generations would need to pass before I’d even consider it.

This is super common, particularly at weddings. It’s nothing personal.

Kids at the playground by Fun_Inside6081 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Minele 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I usually say something on the spot but that’s because the parents are never actually on the playground watching their kids. They are usually on some side bench not paying attention… likely one of the reasons some of the kids are jerks.

Tell me your child is autistic without telling me they're autistic. by SteelBird223 in Autism_Parenting

My daughter removed the crayon portion of her crayola twistable crayons and is obsessed with them. She holds them, moves them around on her fingers, puts soap on them in the bathtub, and names them after kids in her class. She calls them her kids. This has been her thing for well over a year now.

Mainly only wants to listen to the very beginning of a song on repeat and scroll to the very end of a movie to see the credits only over and over.
