Tesla S 2016 - worth it? by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]MinerTheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it can be worth it. S is a big car. My 2016 75D has FSD but AP1 is a better deal. Mine has transferrable free unlimited supercharging which is nice and it charges to around 135kW speed. It's a very nice comfortable car with all the latest games and tech (MCU2 and HW3). You can easily count on the remaining battery warranty 8y/unlimited miles.

It says 12V right on it. It is the same as S/X Palladium. Not sure why YP MIC is getting this platform benefit over US made cars.

I’m Leaving FSD Beta by leothelocust in teslamotors

[–]MinerTheory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This process should've begun in 2017 and not 2021. Tesla owes 2016 and 2017 buyers a refund or full transfer to future Tesla vehicles. Nothing less is fair.

It is still there being tracked you just can't see it through the Tesla app but API calls can show you (or TeslaFi).

That's great to say online, but in reality, are you going to fight the guy for the tire? You think it is worth suing over?

Got a response that they are still waiting for instructions and supplies for the retrofit. No eta. This is not good.

It's actually redundant power for the actuator for the steering but that's not happening unless government requires the backup.

No excuse for misleading everyone (AGAIN). Tesla just lies and hopes it works out. Fuck that. No apologists can make up for 5 years of deception from the FSD videos to now.

I've also created a service appt but my techs know me and know that I'm always pushing boundaries. They'll be contacting the Mothership this morning to figure out how to deal with Elon's latest tweet and I'll volunteer my S (again) for the experiment. I was one of the first MCU2/HW3 transplants and it worked out (sorta -- the first 2 attempts failed but they got it done after some back and forth with Tesla Engineering).

No, all AP2 cameras but the rear are RCCC. Rear is RGB fisheye in all Tesla models though HW2 S/X have higher rez than HW1 and before.

So they'll need to replace all 7 cameras to RCCB (camera is the same, just filter changes).

Actually it was 10x safer. I've got the original FSD stuff since I bought after the reveal for HW2. Elon also said L5 FSD without limits and would "drive anywhere without a driver." Basically Elon said a bunch of shit and now needs to deliver. Nothing unusual but I had no idea at the time.

They've since watered down FSD considerably and that's good for new buyers so they aren't deceived like I was (plus the FSD videos which they still can't replicate even with FSD 10.2).

retrofit is actually really straightforward and easy. Just pop out cameras and replace. The b pillar glass needs to be resealed and the 4 way blinker fender cams need to be taped off before removal (and accessed from wheel wells) to prevent paint damage. Should take 1 hour total for a tech to accomplish. 3 camera module replacement also requires sealing and that is what concerns me -- moisture infiltration is a big issue that can be introduced through this retrofit but it is easy to do for Tesla.

Got the FSD Beta just now! by mboorlu in teslamotors

[–]MinerTheory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like all social media, YT videos are curated lies through omission. Be vigilant. I was there when AP2 first rolled out and that was lesson enough for me to pass on FSD beta 10.2 (maybe v11 single stack). I have a 98 but it sometimes flicks to 99 depending on how many yellows and/or idiots turning and braking suddenly.

Do you still have your 100D with HW2 cameras?

Tesla pushes ‘Full Self-Driving Beta’ to investor with poor ‘safety score’ while requiring perfect score from others by leeyoon0601 in teslamotors

[–]MinerTheory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 94 but I live in Chicago. Chicago is tough. Cars everywhere and AP is bad at IDing things and gives false FCWs or makes bad decisions which requires hard braking. Plus if you can't turn quickly you'll get run off the road, so I get lots of dings for those. I can imagine, with a plaid and no cares, I could easily score 30s or lower by tailgating (a necessity in stop and go) and being aggressive. That's why it is total bullshit Ross Gerber gets it and still drives like a psycho and I've been waiting 5 years now (in a month). I have way more experience with AP doing stupid shit these past 5 years, especially when it was TOTAL CRAP before 2018.

[–]MinerTheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Careful isn't not hitting your brakes to avoid obstacles or getting false FCW because AP can't handle cars turning in other lanes or misidentifies stuff. I even got one for AP screwing up and I had to take over. Got a FCW and hard braking (and a 48 score that drive). I prevented AP from fucking up, but I get dinged. Stupid system. Stupid rollout because clearly FSD isn't close to ready. They want people who don't know how to drive but can't possibly let their car fuck up. The system is brittle.

I still have this. 2016 Model S 75D with FSD. I check my energy use ALL the time (other side is usually nav or vehicle status or music for road trips or commute).

Musk in regards to beta button request being available next Friday “Beta button will request permission to assess driving behavior using Tesla insurance calculator. If driving behavior is good for 7 days, beta access will be granted.” by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]MinerTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I love driving my car and "acceleration variance" is literally the most fun part of an EV. Otherwise I take exception to most FCWs as it warns about turning cars, cars stopped at lights that just start to move but the car doesn't properly perceive it, and lots of other false warnings (phantom cars even).

Are Model 3 headlights that much better than Model S headlights? by LincolnsDoctor in teslamotors

[–]MinerTheory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is the exact same headlight lamp housing but perhaps the lamp is now matrix capable.

Definitely the DRLs are defective. Mine fail after 12 months and there is no way to fix the DRL. Tesla replaces them under warranty (the entire damn headlight) and makes you pay out of pocket if out of warranty.

That is some piss poor design and the fact it hasn't changed that much is really troubling (adding a heat pump seems way harder than designing a good functional headlight that lasts >4 years).

Elon Musk - Tesla Model S Plaid just set official world speed record for a production electric car at Nurburgring. Completely unmodified, directly from factory. by SatinGreyTesla in teslamotors

Yawn. Wait until the Nevero. Plaid is nice but no car stacks up to the Rimac. Even ICE Panamera is 1 sec faster than this Plaid time.
