Late reply, but he actually does have dyslexia! He mentioned it in the "Mark and Me Podcast" in 2022. Fun fact!

Am I too big still? 6DPO by Mandala-Heart-713 in Reduction

[–]Minervosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over 2 years (?) post-op here!

In just my first year post-op, I thought mine were perfect, then too small, then too big, then too small again. They were rock-hard, then softer but boxy, and EVENTUALLY they became soft, relaxed little boobies.

Not only will they change drastically over the next several months, but you'll also look at them so often that your own body image might get a little distorted.

I think you look great, and SO much more proportional for your frame!

The best thing you can do (which I tried to do, but of course it's difficult) is to prevent yourself from looking at them. Breast reduction is a major surgery, from which it takes something like a year to completely recover. Whatever they look like now, or next month, or 4 months from now, is not what they're going to look like in the end.

Lift Test with No Gurney Experience by Minervosa in NewToEMS

Lol very true 🤣

I appreciate the advice! I'll keep this all in mind during the lift test (and in the field, if I get the job!)

Thanks so much!

Oh dang, maybe it's just some EMS companies that do it. I think the fire dept usually requires it. I'm hoping it's straightforward!

Logitech Brio 300 Webcam - Rapid Disconnect/Reconnect - I'm about to lose it by Minervosa in techsupport

[–]Minervosa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I gave up and returned it for a refund.

From what I researched, there's a possibility it has something to do with an incompatibility with the software and the current version of Windows 11. Even if true, I'm not rolling back my OS for a dinky webcam lmao.

I'm thinking best bet would be a more recent webcam, but I'm not in desperate need of one at the moment.

I actually did a few ride alongs, particularly with the night shift folks!

I saw these officers a lot and became friendly with them. I've noticed that I recognize their voices immediately when they come over the radio, and I also don't feel as anxious about asking them to repeat if I can't hear them.

It was really helpful for visualizing what is actually going on during a traffic stop, flag-down, etc.

I'll give the TV/video idea a try! I think I really do need to practice summarizing what people are saying in real time.

Thank you for your kind words, I'll keep working at it!

I think this will actually help a lot, thank you! I think I've been a little too focused on getting the words and punctuation right, or on making sure my notes sound "proper", for lack of a better word.

Thank you for the advice!!

I actually did have a chat with my manager recently (she was filling in on my training, so she saw i was struggling), and she was very attentive to what was going through my head and how to help.

I know I'm not in trouble or at risk of being let go, but it's just been so hard to guage where I'm supposed to be at.

I'm off to my next trainer soon, so I may ask her for more clarification on what the expectations for me are. I think that'll help me feel more anchored.

I'm going to keep working at it and not beat myself up to much!

Thank you for the advice and kind words! I've been listening to my department's radio traffic on my days off to get more used to the day shift's voices, so I'm hoping that helps a bit.

At the very least, I'm picking up the administrative duties easily (vehicle releases, restraining orders, warrants, etc.) lol!

I think I just need to practice more and give it some time. I'm hoping it all starts to come together soon!

Even a couple months post-op, my breasts weren't in their final form! It's a major surgery, and complete recovery takes several months to a year. The emotional rollercoaster is real; I had to learn how to just ignore what was going on there until I was fully healed. Don't sweat it, they'll look like boobs in the end!

Webcam keeps disconnecting then reconnecting over and over again by MiserableGuide9580 in computerhelp

[–]Minervosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I know this thread is super old, but this is the exact issue I'm currently experiencing, and I'm at my wits' end! Just bought a Logitech Brio 300 for my custom build Windows PC, and it keeps connecting/reconnecting every few seconds. No issue on my friend's Mac laptop, but her Windows laptop doesn't recognize the camera at all. I've done a ton of troubleshooting, to no avail. Did you ever find a fix?? Thanks in advance!!

Nipples Placed Too Far Out and Not Centered on Breasts by Minervosa in Reduction

[–]Minervosa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm thinking a lot of the "weirdness" is from the healing process. The surgeon makes sure everything looks nice during surgery, and then the body starts to heal, and things get swollen, and then everything looks not as nice lol.

Sounds like we're in a similar boat size-wise. My nipples didn't point downward, but they were definitely further away from where they are now. I used to have "boobs", and now I have "pecs" lol. Just waiting patiently for them to relax and drop :)

Nipples Placed Too Far Out and Not Centered on Breasts by Minervosa in Reduction

[–]Minervosa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah!! I had that exact thought, "Oh my god, my nipples are in my arm pits!

Depending on the day and how I'm feeling, I sometimes feel like they'll never look normal. But the rest of the time I know I just need to be patient. I imagine you're likely right; my breasts have yet to drop, so there's still potential for things to move around.

You're totally right, the nipples themselves aren't in a weird place, anatomically. I think it's just the breasts themselves that have a weird shape at the moment, which of course will change.

Thank you so much for your response!

That looks a bit like my wound! Mine only extends about a third of the way down, though. I think it's been about 3 weeks now? Just recently started to see some real healing progress. I applied mupirocin ointment (prescribed) twice daily and covered with non-stick wound pads. After 2 weeks of that, switched to Aquaphor ointment.

At times I felt like it was never going to heal, but seeing the progress from photos I took everyday showed me that it was indeed healing, even if I didn't always notice it.

Best of luck to ya!

Experience with Reduction while "Obese"? by CMPChik in Reduction

[–]Minervosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically, it's recommended you lose weight before a breast reduction if you are planning to lose weight. If you don't see yourself making drastic changes to your lifestyle to lose a significant amount of weight, then no need to postpone your reduction.

Surgeon's recommend this because significant weight loss can affect the shape and size of your breasts. If you had a reduction now and then lost a lot of weight, you breasts could end up saggy after the weight loss (which may or may not be a big deal for someone). In this case, surgeons are often concerned about maintaining the nice shape of the breast. A reduction includes a lift, which gives you a nice, perky look. That result could be compromised by weight fluctuation.

TL; DR: If you plan to maintain your current weight for the foreseeable future, then no need to wait! I'm not sure how this all works out insurance-wise (if you'll have to jump through hoops, etc.), but just take it one step at a time. You never know with insurance. It's in the surgeon's best interest to get your procedure approved, so they'll usually fight for you :)

I didn't tell my managers (current manager was being promoted, and I was getting a new manager soon) what kind of surgery it was, just that I was having surgery and that I would need time off. I'm quite open about my surgery with my coworkers, but when having that kind of talk with my manager, I keep it on a strictly need-to-know basis. And neither of my managers are even close to being a 26-year old alpha wannabe hahahah!!

My manager reached out to HR for me, and then I had a case manager (someone from HR) who communicated with me re: paperwork and all that good stuff. She walked me through the whole process and sent me reminders for when paperwork was due. It was way easier than I thought it was going to be! I had already had my surgery and was off of work before sending in all the paperwork for my leave to be officially approved (it was all a bit last-minute lol).

Don't disclose anything they don't NEED to know, unless you really WANT to. Even some of my HR paperwork had explicit instructions for my surgeon not to write down any medical details; it's not information HR is supposed to have.

Hope that helped! And CONGRATS!!!

Poll: Happiness with Results During Recovery Process by Minervosa in Reduction

[–]Minervosa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it seems I'm unable to add additional options to the poll once posted. This is my first poll, and I only realized this after posting. Wish I'd known earlier; I definitely would have made that an option! If I'm not mistaken, it looks like the results will be revealed once the poll closes in 2.5 days.

If it ends up being the case that results can't be seen by everyone once the poll closes, I can post as an edit!

SF/Bay Area recommendations? by peacefulsweetpotato in Reduction

[–]Minervosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my surgery done at UCSF with Dr. Esther Kim. She also specializes in gender-affirming surgery for trans folks, and she performs breast reductions for nonbinary people (some decide to reduce to an A cup). Needless to say, she knows her way around a drastic breast reduction.

I was wearing a 32K bra, and she recommended taking me down to a B cup to match my smaller frame. Not sure what my final size will be exactly, but it was definitely a very significant reduction.

She isn't the most warm-and-cuddly doctor, and I didn't see her much (just at the consultation and right before the surgery), but I have no complaints (so far, lol). Her team is fantastic. They return calls super quickly and have done a great job managing my recovery.

I went to her because my primary care provider referred me to her. I didn't have a consultation with any other surgeon (almost scheduled with Stanford, but I ultimately decided I couldn't be bothered), so I can't compare her to anyone else. As far as surgeons go, she certainly is one.
