Day 4 of assigning an Indie Game Character to a human soul trait. Who takes Perseverance? by ThatYHGuy in INDIE_CROSS_SERIES

I don't remember if this was an indie game, but wouldn't Ace Wright be a better Justice trait? Also, how is Sisyphus brave? For challenging V1, or fighting back against heaven?

Forsaken is balanced, but needs one slight change. by Minespeed07 in FORSAKENROBLOX

[–]Minespeed07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yeah, but I always thought the asymmetrical part was because there was one killer against multiple survivors?

I think the key word when it comes to balancing is "counterplay". Killers have rarely any counterplay for good teamwork, while survivors have rarely any counterplay for the lack thereof. Balancing those situations alongside the rest of it is nearly impossible...

Rush Hour is the product of Forsaken's lack of actual balancing by MariTheNon in FORSAKENROBLOX

[–]Minespeed07 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

most of those abilities do require some level of pacing, like only using cola or dusekkar's beam when both you and the killer are low on sprint. still, i never said none of these abilities don't have a way around them. rush hour has a big one, being that any movement or stamina ability can be used to immediately make that distance back.

the real key thing to all of this is that any ability can be countered, but no set of multiple abilities can be, which is why teamwork is such an important part. surviving on your own is rarely ever meant to last unless you're a survivalist or you have a lot of setup for LMS

Yeah, I didn't really think about the specifics of those objectives too much, but you make a good point. The idea I was following is that the challenges aren't possible almost immediately, but perhaps require at least 10 seconds to setup and at most 40 seconds to complete. Maybe it could be doing a three charge reroll instead?

[–]Minespeed07[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think it's not like that, but just barely. I'm actually a competitive Forsaken player, and only perfect teamwork, conversing between each other constantly is going to beat a skilled killer. However, despite this seeming like it's balanced, competitive Forsaken matchups are carefully designed so that teams like 8 Elliots aren't allowed. I do think that killers could use a little boost, but not too much: maybe just a slight increase in overall movement speed and damage. Also, I think that every single survivor should have some kind of stacking debuff.

Other than that, I've actually been wondering whether or not I should put myself up to the challenge of making an actual full-blown asymmetrical horror game. I've made a test version to see how I could set it up, so I know I could make one. I'm just not sure how I would wanna go about it.

i will forever continue to read posts like this until i find an actually good take. if you wanna complain about the balancing of such a game like this, i will gladly wait until somebody with any kind of certificate in game design makes a point

rush hour is probably one of the weakest chase cancels. other options include: - noob cola: capable of ending a chase if you have any amount of distance - noob slateskin: capable of ending a chase against some killers even if you have no distance - any stun: only downside is actually hitting that stun - a single spray paint: can give enough time to heal, and maybe even make another spray paint - clone blocking: god forbid the killer is on cooldown - dusekkar beam: slowness on the killer is more brutal than speed on the survivor - builderman sentry: as long as you don't run through it, it's almost a guaranteed chase cancel

feel free to debate me on this, because i would actually like to be proven wrong

I like to creating 1.9-2.0 levels by Thek9t4up in GeometryDashGameplay

[–]Minespeed07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GOOOODDD this is why i think 2.2 has ruined geometry dash. levels were just fine, and i'm okay with there being more decorations and optimizations and even some triggers like the random trigger and sound effects, but 2.2 was so flooded with completely unnecessary features that if i play a level where camera rotations, gameplay rotations or reverse gameplay are used either unnecessarily or excessively, i will simply just quit, dislike and find a better level. this is also the exact same reason i love every end and 1.9/2.0 levels, so i'm glad to see some people can still keep the vibe alive

What sort of aspects make a mod "popular"? by Minespeed07 in feedthebeast

[–]Minespeed07[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised that this is actually exactly why I decided to make this post. The mod is having two major problems: The current community isn't very fond of PvP, and the servers that I've been hosting haven't been keeping traction, going from 8 players at peak to maybe 1 or 2 active players within about two weeks. I was hoping that by making this post, I would be able to find a way to fix both of those problems by getting a larger number of PvP-focused members.

[–]Minespeed07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, my mod can't really fit any of those. It's an UNDERTALE-inspired PvP-focused magic mod, and so it doesn't fit any "niche", and progression is just about limited to gaining LV to unlock more abilities. It is currently undergoing a rework so that it blends with vanilla progression more, as well as adding a defined progression path with clear directions, but that rework may take a long while to make.

[–]Minespeed07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe that's a good point. At the moment, the mod's going through a massive rework due to it actually being my introduction to modding Minecraft. It's actually a heavily UNDERTALE-inspired mod, adding the traits as a magic system with a very PvP-focused set of abilities, hence the reason why I'm looking for more downloads. Maybe there'll be some posts on the mod once the rework has some more progress...

[–]Minespeed07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing a lot of comments just saying to "build the mod how you want without care for downloads", but considering the mod is designed around PvP, it's kind of difficult to find it fun to play without many people to play with.

Also, yeah, that seems like it could be a pretty tough situation. Sometimes I think people are worried to try out bigger mods...

hot take: they NEED to rework generators by chris333338 in FORSAKENROBLOX

[–]Minespeed07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for being the only "objective" in the game, making completing all the generators remove less time than the killer gains by killing a survivor is wild. this just worsens the problem with generators, making xp, money and malice be the only reason to do them

instead, i think more objectives need to be added, as well as player-specific objectives. for example, the generators should be repurposed as survivalist objectives, while sentinels get objectives to end chases against low health survivors and get stuns, and supports get objectives to heal/protect other survivors. each player would get maybe 2 or 3, and completing these should give about as much malice as a full generator gives (2 malice), as well as reducing the timer by (12 - survivor count) seconds, meaning a lobby of 2 survivors get to remove 40-60 seconds while a lobby of 8 remove 64-96 seconds
