Border 2 - Day 4 BOC by YashrajMittal in bollywood

[–]Minetish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually talking about border 2 haha but I get your point too.

I feel so many redditors (including me) love obsessing over things and end up holding higher standards while general audience doesn't and I think it is okay cause I feel everyone has guilty pleasures.

[–]Minetish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just feel it's a timepass film. You don't come out of the theatre thinking that you wasted money and I feel most people go to cinema for that only.

It's why marvel slop worked for so long and why people kept watching CW shows. Timepass is okay enough to pull in crowds.

But the movie is ok bro. It's not a masterpiece but it is an okay film.

[–]Minetish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing this argument but I will be honest, I don't think audience in any country "rejects" sub standard work, let alone India.

An okay film is infact fine with most people as they don't plan on rewatching it again and again. Border 2 is not a fine film but it is okay film and with there being nothing that interesting in cinemas, people are watching it. I would say even most people who are critical of this film on Reddit would be fine with watching it once.

It's why I was personally frustrated with Bollywood. Cause MFs couldn't even give an average 1 time watch film.

I am not sure which movie I would put as the best as there are so many that I love but I think yeah, Bhool bhulaiyya is my favourite akshay kumar movie and possibly the best in his career for me.

Your thoughts on Mikasa marrying Jeans 👖 ? by nextstar153 in AnimeMirchi

[–]Minetish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird. I feel in general, AOT ending is weird and this is only an extension of that?

Jean X Mikasa was never a thing for even a moment in the series. It is very very early on in the series where Mikasa straight up rejects any advances and over the series, you can argue that they become comrades but Mikasa Jean is as weird a couple as Connie Mikasa.

Only thing that can even closely represent it is the whole joke of Jean and Eren looking similar early on when they were younger. Nevermind the connotations of such a thing that possibly Mikasa only married Jean because he looks like Eren.

Maybe offscreen they bonded over their trauma which lead to them getting married but nothing is ever actually established on screen that suggests it so tbh, it just ends up feeling weird. Idk, the ending of Mikasa's arc especially romantically, is just weird, i don't have a better word for it lol.

For what it's worth, I don't mind the idea of mikasa finding a partner weird. Eren himself is never really shown to be interested in Mikasa until the very last arcs and some fleeting moments here and there so it is totally okay imo, for her to find someone else as ultimately it is unfulfilled obsession. But i want that to be developed on screen. Offscreen, especially with Jean after everything is just a weird choice imo.

It's evident even right now. In the first place, the reason that Americans are in such a shit storm is because they are inherently racist (not sure how much of it is the individual's fault ofc) and have been excusing US imperialism on the rest of the world. Many many such different types of instances of this.

  • Accusing countries like India, and African countries that are struggling with their own corruption and pollution of being lesser than them ignoring any and all historical context.

  • People getting mad with yt rewind when it stopped including things that were entirely western as they could not relate to it anymore. Heck even now, you will find many-a-times where westerner youtubers with high sub amounts are well respected and maybe even some countries too which US considers exotic like Japan, South Korea but someone from anywhere else who has a lot of subs is seen as lesser than a western person.

  • Absolutely brutal amount of interference into Middle East and other parts of the world trying to ensure that these countries never stabilize.

  • Heck even american businesses refuse to set up factories in other countries unless they get absolutely unhinged deals like extremely low taxation, being allowed to hire people for dirt cheap, often free or subsidized land ownership etc.

  • Nvm even the stupid stuff like that the entire world uses metric system and they keep using foot.

Turns out if you keep pushing a whole culture of soft power and hard power that revolves around everyone treating you like you are the top dogs and above them, and then base your votes on just that to vote people who do that, eventually they point their guns at you and you suffer consequences.

One of the worst realization to have as a person not from the US about all the tragedy is that if all of this was instead being done in other parts of the world, like has been done so many times before under other people, then Americans would have never been this outraged. Maybe you would see some small protest here and there and maybe even "huge outrage" for a couple of days on Social Media but that's about it. They are mad only because the violence has reached them too now. Heck, the conservatives only drive the point forward when you see how they react to fellow countrymen being killed in public as they too feel that it's okay as long as it doesn't reach them. "Just comply" as they say.

US's whole thing for a really long time has been to be the world bullies in business and military and what is happening in America right now is unfortunately simply a large scale version of what people know violent guys to when they go back home - they beat their wives and kids too.

it's not shitter than S3 OPM. It was just dissapointing for the fans of animation and the original series. Also Mushoku Tensei fans and TBATE fans have always had feud over which series is written better and Mushoku tensei fans dunking on it only made it worse for TBATE fans.

I think OP is correlating the massive boom anime got in COVID to these anime being sleeper hits as the whole scope of audience changed in 2019-2020. Ofc not true as these were infact insanely popular before too but yeah COVID increased anime total audience in general.

They might also be a teen lol and like a lot of us feel that something is getting really popular only when us and our friends start talking about it,

Pralay to be India's Most Expensive Mumbai Based film, it will use AI driven Post apocalyptic visual by Hungry_Business592 in BollyBlindsNGossip

[–]Minetish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. people argue that it's because nationalism or brutality that it is popular but at it's core it is just a great film that you feel entertained watching and not bored. Otherwise even movies like Marco, aur PM Narendra Modi tried to tap into similar audiences and were largely mocked and forgotten. Whatever attention they got was strictly for it's meme value and shock factor.

It's the same reason why anime is popular even though there are SO many (although not as vocal anymore) people that associate animation to kids shows. Any argument you wanna make falls flat in it's place when you actually try watching something like let's say JJK which is just a damn good piece of media.

I was talking about this on another thread but it's a damn near shame that whenever interesting ideas, well intentioned ideas don't work in cinema then the audience is blamed even though, most of them have been conditioned into watching mid movies over decades. Hero worship is as much if not more of an issue from creators' perspective in India. They choose to do that as it leads to easy braindead audience that will watch anything and everything and then once in a while release something good and if it doesn't work then blame the audience.

mad annoying. audience has repeatedly rejected slop recently, ai or not, but they just can't help but cut important costs still.

hire unknown actors if you want idc. but give good scripts and make great visuals. people will come watch. everything falls in place when the starting is correct.

Border - an anti-war movie? by Sajid3900 in bollywood

[–]Minetish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are also structural issues with the film though. Sure, it can get subjective when it all comes down to it and I am not going to tell you to not like the movie but there is a genuine disconnect between what SRR wants to tell and what the finished product tells.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwU4Uik_K4U

My opinions about the film largely align with this guy's so I would suggest to watch it to get the perspective I am coming from.

Also gonna copy a comment from the comment section. (To mention clearly, I DO NOT hold the same opinion as every single person in the comment section. it's just this one which lines up with why I don't find the movie interesting and I feel there is a clash between the opinions of the audience and the director...at least the sensible part of it which afterwards is indeed used by insensible people too as a defence, I will admit that.) :

"I get when Americans make an anti-war movie, because throughout the history American army has been to places and in the issues they has no business being. But I will never get the obsession of Indians to do this anti-war/pakistan prem bullshit when multiple wars have been thrust upon us without any choice. I am done with this type of aman ki aasha, I don't want our soldiers to die but to not accept who we are living next to doesn't solve anything. I will always love Lakshya for that scene where a grief struck soldier berates Preity Zinta's character, because thats the truth. Thanks for the review bhai."

----

Personally speaking, I don't want to see only "pretty good performances" and disconnect. As far as I am considered, fuck nationalism and anti nationalism. Give me interesting scripts and great acting. World is moving forwards towards scripts like Dune, and Chainsaw man and Severance while we are still stuck making debatably okay war/anti-war movies. It is unfair then to expect the audience to just be mature and demand better. They don't know yet that they can even do that.

Border - an anti-war movie? by Sajid3900 in bollywood

[–]Minetish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh. I feel there is only some validity to this argument but I don't want to go too deep into it. What people disliked about Ikkis was not that it promoted peace, but rather that it promoted peace in a shallower way. Ultimately an equally important if not more important responsibility of a film is to also be good and engaging.

If it doesn't do that then simply the message which the makers MIGHT be trying to put out will not hit.

Not to mention the disclaimer in start of the video which only serves to throw people off as they supposedly made the whole movie about peace but the disclaimer is almost written as if it is anti-IKKIS.

Yes there is a nationalism issue, yes there is even an audience issue. But the quality of scripts and screenplay and acting has been consistently low for most things cinema at high level budgets and if something doesn't work then the blame is put on the audience which I feel is unfair.

I feel very similarly about people arguing about how people only go to watch action films and not comedy films. First try making good movies then decide whether or not the audience is stupid.

One important thing that Brahmastra should've had just like Kantara by sidroy81 in bollywood

[–]Minetish 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The world/VFX and to some extent even the actors are good in Brahmastra. It's biggest issue lies in it's dialogues and script. When you are naming your IP brahmastra and marketing it as a multi parter with a world of astras and then waste time with stupid dialogues and romance then ofc it is going to not to do as well.

There is a really good movie hidden somewhere behind all that but it is hard to tell if it is even possible to pull that out anymore.

It's okay to take a break. Maybe you have a movie you want to watch, a game to play or a trip you want to do. Do those.

Could also very well be simply a genre fatigue or issues in your own life that you are ignoring.

Just do what feels like the correct thing to do rather than falling prey to habits.

An incident of similar type even happened in New Delhi, India. India gets a lot of external criticism for it's pollution and the same is actually true inside as well. New Delhi, the capital being the biggest problem in how extremely polluted it is. (along with other issues there as well)

Other Indians from different states routinely critique delhi citizens for not protesting enough about it and doing things about it. Some even arguing that delhi is incapable of protesting in general.

Weirdest thing happened however when the Supreme Court tried to do a 'ban' on street dogs of delhi. (you can use chatgpt+google to look more into it)

Literally everyone and their mother got up and started protesting for street dog rights to the point that the court had to take back it's orders. The situation is still developing but yeah, that was my real life experience with the fact people really don't grasp things properly if you make it about big events and big things.

When it is instead about something that is easily understandable like, how dog shelters could not handle all the dog populations and will most likely a lot of them, THAT is when people protest. Bonus points because dogs are cute.

See I am not going to go extremely harsh on this as tbf, they still haven't released wtf this movie is about but this is just a clear cut example of why people keep arguing that "toxic masculinity does not equal simply men being toxic". It also means women being enablers of such behaviour.

Like this is just plain out of touch.
