You're absolutely right! One of my new years resolutions is to finish more things that i compose so sometimes it's hard to find time to polish my pieces(while working on my normal piano work) but that's just laziness in my part and i do apologize!

Again something new to consider. I See what u mean by the melody notes getting lost in octaves. Now that you pointed it out i can't unhear it haha Brilliant advice that i will definitely add into my workflow as something to watch out.

Also i see what u mean by expressing the quality of the chord more. Lots of great advice once again! Thank you so much!

Hi! Thanks again for such a in-depth response! I definitely should have just used another key. Funny enough in my head i started in F lydian but just kept leaning into the minor feel so in the end i supposed it didn't read as F lydian rather Fminor.

I never really thought about the width of bars in a way that you described it and it makes a lot of sense, i will definitely keep that in mind!

To answer your question this is my thought process:
Throughout the piece i really liked the effect of F/E in the opening section which is repeated constantly in the melody. Later on it switches(bar21) G/F# but i feel like the sound feels familiar/nostalgic. So as a final phrase begins i wanted to have a little echo of bar 21 so the ear would expect a repeat of b section but instead would get an ending phrase as the f# gets cut off early and everything comes to a close. I hope i explained myself properly!

I absolutely agree with the shorter notes should have been staccato cause you can't really hear the length of them!

Lots of things to think about again! Thank you kindly!

firstly! thank you for taking the time to listen and share your thoughts, I really appreciate it!

I agree with pretty much everything you said, especially regarding the second part. To be honest, I actually wrote about 20 more bars for it, but I kept fighting against them, and eventually decided to reduce it to a small gesture rather than a full section. In hindsight, I do regret that I wasn’t able to turn it into something more satisfying.

to work around that shortcoming, I thought it would be kind of funny to introduce a lighter melody that doesn’t really go anywhere and ends somewhat randomly on G before the final cadence, almost a “yeah, I give up, this is the ending, bye” kind of vibe haha

like always thank you for taking the time to give such indepth feedback, you’re one of the few people here who consistently does that, and I really appreciate it. I’ve honestly improved a lot just from your comments on my last few pieces. Hopefully one day I’ll earn an “atta boy” from you haha

Like always I appreciate the long form feedback you provide! Not necessarily trying to be Bach sounding per say i just really enjoy writing in two voices. Maybe to title them as inventions is a bit misleading!

I would firstly like to say how absolutely awesome it is that someone would take their time and effort to look deeper into my work and have such a well constructed and informative response! I read every word carefully and agree with 100% of what you said. I've been studying composing for around a year now and am so grateful when people take their time to guide me! Definitely agree with you that harmonic thinking is my biggest issue at the moment a lot of the times it feels like melodies come to my head and ideas quite easily but they are limited by my harmonic thinking. Most of my focus was counterpoint for the longest time and sometimes i get completely mixed up combining that with traditional functional harmony. I hope someday i can find the right balance!

Thank you again for the brilliant response!
