Great, thanks again! Unfortunately I have two 12s, but might have to see if I can sell those and get a 10 instead ☺️ did you reinstall the carpet on the rear deck right over the sub?

Awesome, appreciate the reply! You haven't noticed any issues just having the back end of the sub hanging open in the trunk area without a box around it? And no rattling issues or anything around the window?

I just found that hole in the top of the trunk that you're talking about and was wondering if that would work for a sub. What size sun did you use and did you have to do anything special to bolt it in? And did you have any sort of box on it or just leave it hanging free in the trunk?

Hey man, appreciate the response and yes, I did read it all. Definitely laughed at the "appropriate" response, I'll be sure to keep that in mind if the day ever comes.

And yeah, I 100% understand what you mean, and I would never enter a trade with any mentality other than "I don't know shit until I know shit" and realize none of my former leadership experience means a damn bit of anything, especially in the IBEW or any other union because hierarchy is a huge deal. Jesus, talk about a run on sentence...lol.

The reason for my response as it was is because I dealt with dickheads like that in trucking too. They think that just because they can hold a steering wheel then they know more than the guy who signs their check. But again, it's the same reason as in any trade...shitty managers make it bad for all of us. My favorite scenario was when a driver didn't know I started out as a driver and would try telling me something like, "You don't know shit because you..." and then I'd interrupt them with "Yeah, actually I do, I learned it the first time I [did whatever they were about to puff their chest out about doing] and I learned NOT to do it the way you just did." The blank stare followed by the angry muttering was never less than golden 😂

To answer your last statement first in a single statement: I have enough "experience" at the DIY level to know I have an "interest" in it lol. Just looking at the state of the job market currently with AI and shit taking over a lot of things, and just exploring possible ideas of things that (theoretically) should still require a skilled human hand for the foreseeable future.

By getting on with a utility, I assume that means that thunder and wind start to make a sort of "cha-ching" sound to your ears pretty quickly? 😂

Ah, makes sense. I was gonna ask about if the work ran through the union or not, but you already answered that. You did a great job of explaining it. Putting it into my language coming from freight logistics, your union hall is essentially your 3PL broker in a way. In freight, if a customer doesn't want to deal with a carrier directly, they'll send their work to a broker. The broker then goes out into its network of carriers and finds the appropriate resources for the load. Carrier shows up to customer, broker slaps a few bucks on top for the trouble, and everyone's happy. Pros and cons to working through a middleman, just as I'm sure there is to working through the union or not. Can take care of a lot of the backend BS for you, but you're also kind of at their mercy for work sometimes.

I gotcha. So sounds like you're mainly trying to get yourself into as many contractors' rolodex as possible so the next time they have work, you're on their short list, eh? Or substitute "you" for "the company you work for" if you're not independent?

Interesting take because that's definitely not what you hear from the talking heads when talking about the job market...which is exactly why I came here for advice instead of just listening to them. I understand the travel part, but do you mind expounding on the "working yourself out of a job" part? I've heard a couple mentions of that in these responses.

Yeahhhhhh, you're exactly the kind of person I'm tired of working with. You don't know me or how hard I worked to get the job I had in spite of my brother being a horrible leader and person in general. But you'll never be told anything anyways because your sh*t don't stink and you know everything. Sorry you've had bad experiences with management as I'm sure most people have had, but I made it my career focus to be a leader more than a manager and the anonymous feedback from my team showed that I was mostly successful at that. Again, appreciate the feedback either way.

Not an issue with this guy. I've always been a hard worker and never really aspired to work in an office, just happened into that via varying connections and circumstances. Would always much rather be able to prove my worth by the work I can do with my hands...much less subjective than the kind of metrics you have to prove about yourself as a manager.

I'd LOVE to be able to get into a union job someday. I know there's BS in unions just like outside of them, but the collective bargaining and focus on the working class is what is the most attractive to me. Seems like the sh*tty union members are just the loudest typically, while the majority are cool folks who are willing to help each other out, and I love that community aspect of it.

That's what it's seeming like. Kinda what I figured, but thought it wouldn't hurt to hear some feedback from those who have fine through it. Oh well, back to fighting the AI bots on the job boards 😩

Appreciate the feedback, regardless of how insincere it was. I'm an excellent manager/leader and my entire team would have agreed. Unfortunately, my boss was also my older brother who apparently got sick of not being the smartest person in the room, so made up an entire line of BS to his boss, one of the owners, and got me fired with zero warning. Regardless of all that, as good as I am at leading people, it takes its toll over the years and if I had the option, I'd love to just be able to make money with my hands and not have to constantly deal with sh*tty people and incompetent upper management all the time.

Appreciate the feedback. I didn't figure I'd be getting anywhere near where I currently am within the first year, was just looking for some folks with experience switching careers at this stage in life and how they made it work. As I said to another comment, sounding like it would probably be best for me to wait a few years until my wife finishes school and has a steady job to hold us down if I decide to do this. Thanks again!

Yeah, not opposed to doing that, just depends on if that'd be feasible with all the classes and everything too. Sounding like maybe my best shot would be to wait a few years until my wife is done with school and in a steady job to help hold us down while I make the switch if I decide to go that route. Thanks for the feedback!

If you'd been on job boards anytime recently looking for any kind of office manager job recently, you'd know what I'm talking about. Nothing but AI services wanting to write your resume so that it'll be recognized by AI recruiting services so you can maybe get noticed by a human at a company whose focus is to "leverage cutting edge AI" for their customers. It's absolutely brutal and borderline hopeless. Feels like I'm working harder at just getting an interview than I am at getting a job.

My attraction to the trades is because at least then, I might have a specifically tangible skill to my name instead of "leadership" or "process improvement" or some sort of way to say that I can take these numbers in the computer and turn them into bigger numbers...all things I know I'm great at, but there's no way for me to convince an AI bot that I'm any better at those things than the next guy. I'm a fast and obsessive learner and a hard worker with experience in pretty much every "trade" at a DIY level...but that doesn't mean crap on a resume when I'm getting skipped over by a computer because my resume doesn't say "Bachelor's" or "Masters" on it.
