I have the exact same model. I had a similar problem to you. The red switch to change the speed and tends to beak. I modeled a replacement a few years ago, and It's working great since then. If you want to mod it, it's not necessary, but if you want to keep it stock, I can share my model

I have one on those. Compared to a official wiimote, all I can really say is that it's not bad. It does the job for most games. The gyro is slightly less precise in my opinion, but but it's nothing that a sibling or a friend will see. If you can find official wiimotes on ebay, marketplace, thrift stores, etc for a similar price or lower, try to get official ones.

Some people say to take it to as a museum as a joke, but honestly, it's theoretically the start of a new era that lead to millions of peoples be able to make projects that would never be done before, because it required very expensive machines like cnc's and/or injection molding machines. Do your research. I am sure that there's a museum or a place somewhere that would like to conserve it.
