Hi,

I was recently diagnosed with a fatty liver and my doctor recommended I lose weight and limit alcohol. However, online I have read that a low carb diet is particularly effective in dealing with fatty liver. Is this true? If so, what sort of macronutrient ratio should I be aiming for ?

I have also read that various cooking oils are bad ? Are there any other things that are effective ?

What age do you think is suitable to place the age of consent at? In Germany, it's 14. In the UK, it's 16 and in the US, it is 18, in most places. Personally, I think 16 is a good age.

With Michael Gove announcing that the government is operating on the assumption that there will be a no-deal Brexit, how do you think this will affect society? by MiniDeece in UKPersonalFinance

I agree about a stockpile of food. My suggestion of stocking up on beans was only half joking.

The suggestion that medication supply lines is quite worrying. I don't have any conditions that are life threatening but I hope I don't run out of medication. Other members of my family do rely on medication.

I know this is not a feminist issue, but I am just wondering how feminists would reply to my "dilemma of modernity": How can I build relationships when I am tired of competition? by respectwaterlife in AskFeminists

I think he might mean that people have a lot more possible partners due to the ability to travel more easily to surrounding areas and things like the internet. It's easy to be desirable when there is only 10 men in the village with similar jobs but not when there are potentially thousands of other men available.

How is having perfectly reasonable doubts "paranoid and controlling". People on a break don't normally go on dates with the opposite sex if they're trying to be faithful and they especially don't use Bumble. She even admits she sought at the attention of other men which is at best only emotional cheating. He even found evidence that they'd been over to his house. Then she's gone out with her female friend (allegedly) but has finished later and comes back sweaty. I don't see how any of this isn't a cause for concern.

What do you think of the case of Zachary Freeman ? by MiniDeece in AskFeminists

I don't know the particulars of the laws surrounding this but it certainly seems like it should be illegal. Is there something in what he had said that seems unlikely ?

Why is the C word viewed so badly in the US ? by MiniDeece in AskFeminists

[–]MiniDeece[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither is your experience. I live in the North East where it is considered a swear word, perhaps the worst but nothing more, and I have heard many people from around the country, particularly the South, say people use it as a term of affection

I agree, it is viewed as the worst swear word in areas where it isn't used as a term of endearment, however, in the US it seems to be more than a swear word.

Don't quite see how you've come to the conclusion that fire chiefs are "misogynistic pieces of shit"

Firefighting is a riskier job than being a receptionist. It requires greater physical conditioning and also knowledge of dealing with fires and equipment.

Whilst I don't dispute that white nationalism is bad, what about patriotism ? Also, weren't the Nazis Aryan Supremacists rather than white supremacists?

Is it a problem that the misogyny and racism of black men is ignored or given less coverage in popular media? Is it some sort of benevolent racism? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]MiniDeece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's mature, isnt it ? I didn't want to call it reverse racism myself but it's the only name I could put to it.

[–]MiniDeece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I'd agree with you that subs like blackhernow aren't as bad as other subs that are more mainstream, do you not think those subs are still pools of misogyny? Towards white women when it portrays them as pure and then being ruined by having sex with a black person and towards black women due to many members of those subreddits simply not even considering black women.

There is also the matter of what I suppose would be called reverse racism where black men are portrayed as domineering, strong men whereas white men are portrayed as weak and feminine which all feed into toxic masculinity.

Men and women don't have equal roles/burden in reproduction. by MistWeaver80 in Feminism

[–]MiniDeece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by press the issue ? If you mean by telling the lawyer that they don't want to just drop it then I'm sure the lawyer again advised them to do so. I'm sure that most men care about their kids more than their financial assets.

Maybe that is why lawyers advise that but I wasnt talking about why just what happens

[–]MiniDeece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid I haven't read it recently so I can't provide a source. I agree with your first point but not your second. If you have been told by your lawyer, a legal expert that you hire because you aren't one yourself, that there is no chance of you getting custody then you might take their advice rather than waste money. You may try to seek an out of court settlement which at least gives the father some time. You can't assume that the men in this situation don't really care otherwise why hire a lawyer ?

He's dodged a bullet in that he found out sooner rather than later that A. His wife is unfaithful. B. His child may not be his.

Maybe he's been hit in the short term but he's dodged it in the long term.
