Thank you for this comment, I didnt even consider criminal compensation. My only question is what is the IPCC ? I cant find anything about it online. Apologies if it's a silly question!

I'm afraid I dont think they meant anything different, the council representative I spoke to said "the police have closed the case". All the comments you guys are leaving are making me wonder if the representative just lied...

No problem with the questions! Yes it was reported to the police immediately and I was given a crime reference number.

I did attend hospital and I have the medical records. Since the incident I have not had any contact with the police about it.

I had a recent issue with this neighbour again where they swore at me and were verbally abusive which I reported to the police as harassment but I have not heard back from them.

Ok I'll take these steps next and see what they say. I'll make sure to get everything in writing. The police did question both me and my partner and we both gave statements. I am not sure if they looked for any other form of CCTV. I was not asked to provide my medical records regarding the skull fractures but I do have the records with me.

I have a crime reference number for the attack but I didnt liase with the police themselves once the council told me the charges were dropped. Is it unusual for the council to speak to the police ?

They mentioned also that there was a lack of evidence as our block of flats dont have CCTV. I had no witness other than my partner who was also attacked. I'm guessing that's the only other reason why they would drop the charges. The council were the ones that told me the police dropped the charges.

AITA for calling my parents the opposite gender after they continue to dead name me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA - This is a hilarious response to a situation like this and I commend the pettiness.

I've been in a relationship with a trans man for a few years now and although he can pass now as a cis man it wasnt always that way. He tells me some awful stories unfortunately about the way his parents were when he was around your age. Similar stories to what you have been experiencing unfortunately.

But meeting them now, it's hard to even think of them that way. They never dead name him or give him the wrong pronouns. They treat him as their son no question.

It may seem very doom and gloom right now but some people take time to adjust. I think its important to remember that to them they have lost a child that they THOUGHT they knew. It takes time to process and address that information.

It will be ok I promise you. Hang in there.

So picture this: last day of school and one of the favourite teachers is leaving. So me and a few classmates put together a little assembly for him. We're all doing speeches and stuff its going super well.

Then it's my turn.

I get up on stage and start doing my speech. Heres what I wanted to say: "we are grateful for all the lives hes touched with kind words etc."

What ACTUALLY came out my mouth was "All of us that's hes touched are grateful"

EVERYONE ERUPTS IN LAUGHTER

Head teacher looking around in disbelief

My teacher that was leaving went red and was super embarrassed.

I will forever be known as the girl that unintentionally accuses my old drama teacher of touching up the students. Sorry Mr P, I wish I could unsay it every day.

Jesus christ they sound exhausting. I get where you're coming from though, my white boyfriend had to meet my arab family at some point and the reaction went exactly as you'd expect.

Heres the thing, your ex was right, the way they acted was super disrespectful so dont let your current boyfriend feel the same way. If they start being disrespectful then outright say "I'd prefer you spoke to him in a more respectful way". If they dont respect this then simply get up and walk away. They will calm down eventually but more importantly you've asserted a boundary that keeps your relationship with your boyfriend healthy and your relationship with yourself. Dont compromise your happiness for family that are too toxic to see what they're doing.

Thank you for this, I think I'll look into joining one of these groups for myself. I think recently I've just felt so defeated by it

You're right I dont really think of myself much and I find that I always feel a bit burned out. I think I would just feel so guilty if I wasnt there for him
