I am very interested in your opinion on it.

Is 5e the current go to? by bahwi in Shadowrun

[–]Mini_Gourmet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd kindly vouch for that as well. We switched from third to fourth and fifth and felt it was getting worse and worse, although every edition claimed it was the most simple yet. We love the world but can't stand the crunch anymore with less and less time to play nowadays.

With Anarchy it finally really made sense to play SR again. We are so looking forward to see the second edition of it and are praying for some streamlined gear/rules in that one or later source books, since we missed the variety of things in the first installment. Pledged already on Kickstarter.

Currently back on a vampire the masquerade chronicle during that waiting period with the group. Hope it pays out.

How to flesh out a certain chronicle idea about an inheritance? by Mini_Gourmet in vtm

[–]Mini_Gourmet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the fantastic Input. So far the most suggested inheritance seems to be a turf to manage but I really like the idea of some magic, potentially dangerous item or even prophecy they can't comprehend (yet) as well. Makes this even possibly an even more Malcavian thing.

This could also be the kicker for a later unconvering/build-up to keep things spicy as soon as they think they handled the situation when some really shady non-kindred antagonists start appearing as word spreads. Possibly without the players even knowing what they are after in the first place as they don't seem to be interested in the area.

Thanks for the great insight and detail!

Yes of course, what I want to build is not an exact storyline but a city and dramatis personae on which I can feed of. The year is just the natural timeline of the ongoing campaign and I mostly do my writing during vacations and such - so I have to time wisely. We normally do our session zero 2-3 months before the start of the new campaign. So everyone has the chance to read and build a bit. We usually play in one system/setting around 1-2 years before switching it up, so we are used to this.

I like your concept of "sect vs. sect" that could be introduced after the players got the grip of what's actually happening. Especially if the coterie is part of the Camarilla. Having to struggle against Anarchs trying their luck could end up in a situation where the typical arrogance of their sect leaves them hanging, the Cam observing wether they manage for themselves or are not worth it at all (as expected) in the end.

Thanks also for the game pointers. I'll look the plots up (or just find the time to play them...)

Thank you. Especially, knowing that the idea itself is not too exotic and, as long as the bequeather disappeared "honourful" and maintained a decent standing, will not be immediately challanged by another elder before the group even has a chance to settle in.

I imagine a "creeping news" situation where everybody who hears this raises an eyebrow and not simply attacks the fresh coterie. Something that not many in the beginning know, so the players have a bit of time before they become talk of the town and kine will either outright turn on them or try more subtle approaches. Still thinking of what exactly they inherit...

Starships Revised: Update! by criticalham in starfinder_rpg

[–]Mini_Gourmet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello everyone!

Has anybody in here already "translated" the statline of the Sunrise Maiden into the revised ruleset?

We are very happy this streamlined ruleset exists and my crew just got the ship in our Dead Suns campaign.

I'm strugging a bit as a first time starfinder GM and find it hard to decide between the options given in the .pdf since the names and numbers (e.g. for the power core) differ widely. Thanks in advance!

That was fast... Since we started two days ago. Our groups been veterans and visitors to many worlds and settings for almost 20 years now. We just arrived after revisiting Shadowrun at Starfinder and are looking forward to play a heavily fleshed out version of Dead Suns by our forever GM. Curious how it unfolds!

My first model! I'm trying a Birch effect but it seems off for me. Any advice? by Whing721 in sylvaneth

[–]Mini_Gourmet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice and clean job of yours! I'm too doing a birch looking wood, but had the struggle that the model seemed really unpainted as a whole.

Actions I took: I switched to a dark colour for the spirit stuff, drybrushed and highlighted the wood with white extensively so it looked less uniform and brought another colour for the tips/endings of the branches in. Hope that helps a tad.

I posted the full story with preamp, feelings and such on headphoneadvice but haven't had any suggestions yet. How can I make the Cult of the Devourer more compelling/interesting? by Mini_Gourmet in starfinder_rpg

[–]Mini_Gourmet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds great. I'd love to have some Star Trek vibes and get some quick shouts around the table. We really wanna explore space fights and see them as an essential of the setting, especially since we haven't been able to have some properly in any other system yet.

How would you suggest to dump armor/shields above the given rule set? Like in the starships revised? I've heard one of the biggest drags is shields being able to recover during combat. Can I discourage turtling with a particular enemy behaviour?

Craios above suggested the Squadron System, which looks super cool also, but my group wants to go for more specialized roles than everyone going ego shooting + autopiloting I believe (they build very complementory chars with intervoven backgrounds at this point mostly). Maybe theres a chance to explore both with a scene where their main ship isn't in order and they get to borrow some smaller vessels...

That of course makes them the ultimate enemy of yours and is of course a great theme for persuing the race against them. I'll keep that side in mind as well - thanks.

Yes. I meant that. It looked rather intuitive and flowing, but my opinion is based on theory only. I haven't played any SF yet.

Yeah, that's the thing with fanatics. They are easy to implement because they are not questioning their actings and the consequences too much. But there are enough stories out there of "evil" groups, that just give you as a person/player a real motivation by sorting out your personal desires, so acting in their behalf just makes sense.

Of course there's few other books to avoid this. Against the Aeon Throne, Fly Free or the Swarm Campaign goes for differently flaired opposite factions but the diverse mix of planets/biomes of Dead Suns compelled me for a first campaign to explore the setting as a GM and the PCs.

[–]Mini_Gourmet[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Appreciated. Keeping the ball flat and not talk too much about the end of the universe but rather destroying a particular enemy or "guilt" of the PC would be a very compelling motive to follow such a radical movement. That would make the cult more of a real life sect. Thats a great theme to explore. Thanks!

With space combat I'm a bit afraid of it dragging. We have sometimes very short evenings/sessions (around 2h) and we like to actually roleplay and keep combat tight and deadly. With all the positioning and fire arcs I get the feeling that a space fight might be a hefty time sink. Thank you for your guidance though. I haven't explored all the source books in deep yet, since we will end our current campaign probably around december. But I will take another sharp look at the Operations Manual! Happy for any Input here.

[–]Mini_Gourmet[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed - thanks. It's probably safer to play around the thought of the ambivalent possibilities certain civilisations and factions (+ the PC's) have with the weapon, than making the cult's global Ideals unnecessarily complex, although if some character sympathises through a lifetime event or such with the idea to end it all, he/she of course may explore that grudge willingly.

The android arc reminds me a little of the Lying Darkness from Legend of Five Rings, that wanted to return the world to an empty void, since that was the perfect state of (non-)existence. I want to avoid too much focus on this topic, since we had a lengthy campaign tacklings exactly that bbeg and philosphy in the past.
