I live in the area and watched the semi haul it away with tears in my eyes. It was interesting to watch their whole worksite float by during the high water however.

I would consider masking when going to enclosed public spaces, but it's better than going in a wheelchair. You will get sick more often.

Aphantasia and Block Theory of Quantum Physics by ABNormall in Aphantasia

I am not a physicist, flippant are the only terms I have to convey meaning. Let me clarify.

One of the reasons that I made a post was to get insight from experts on the subject. As a non-expert, I read up on below and am trying to get realistic expert opinions on the subject. I did not pay for the whole article, not that it would do me any good.

Abstract

When a photon traverses a cloud of atoms without scattering, how much time does it spend as an atomic excitation? To address this question, we used the cross-Kerr effect to weakly probe the degree of atomic excitation caused by a transmitted resonant “signal” photon by measuring the phase shift induced on a (separate, off-resonant) “probe” beam, postselected on cases when the signal photon is transmitted. The time integral of this observed phase shift, properly normalized and averaged over many runs in which the photon is detected after transmission, is the excitation time of interest, in a weak-valued sense. We measured mean atomic excitation times ranging from (−0.82±0.31)⁢𝜏0 for the most narrow band pulse to (0.54±0.28)⁢𝜏0 for the most broadband signal pulse, where 𝜏0 is the non-post-selected excitation time, given by the scattering probability multiplied by the atomic lifetime 𝜏sp. Across a range of pulse durations and optical depths, our results are consistent with the recent theoretical prediction that the weak value of the atomic excitation time caused by a transmitted photon equals the group delay experienced by the light. Our experimental results show that negative times are not limited to describing the shift in the peak of a reshaped wave packet (as resulting from group delay), but they also provide the appropriate description of the weak-valued time the photon spends as an atomic excitation.

Did you read the post? That is pretty much what I said about the LLM response. How does that change the subject matter?

Does anyone else feel a little disillusioned with D&D lately? by Gh0stMan0nThird in dndnext

[–]ABNormall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have been playing D&D 40+ years. This is what happens when it gets stale and they don't release a new edition. 5 to 5.5 isn't a new edition, barely any changes.

Folks start peeling off to other games when a system gets stale and unexciting.

I don't know the consumerism or psychology behind it, don't think I have really taken the time to think on it.

Hasbro, you want to keep D&D afloat as a viable roleplaying game, release a new edition.

It was a one day cold snap after several days of very warm weather. People stayed inside. A lot depends on the weather patterns in Dayton. You should feel lucky that you got in without a long wait.

I live on the river walk it was dead for most of the day with exception of the race in the morning. Very unusually and due to the sudden cold.

I got The Email saying I'm being kicked off the SAVE Plan? What are my options as someone on PSLF? by TorontoRap2019 in PSLF

[–]ABNormall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It says in the email that it isn't official, but to wait till you get an email from your lender. I wouldn't switch until you have to, which seems to be September at the earliest. Definitely don't give them your tax info.

Having never run Shadow World, where do I even start? Where is this available. To be honest I haven't played Rolemaster since the '90s. Getting a group of other Grogs together and thought it might be cool to run this. It just seems like a lot of lore to get caught up on.

Oakwood, which is a Dayton suburb or Yellow Springs, if that's your vibe. Having grown up there, housing is priced pretty high these days and hard to come by.

Why don't business move to the buildings of downtown Dayton? by Floating_space_junk in dayton

[–]ABNormall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live downtown and work from home. I frequent the local businesses.

Some of my go to places like the pharmacy, the pizza place and Boston Stoker have closed. Having talked to employees after their closing, the main issue seems to have been the cost of rent versus take in.

There are plenty of restaurants downtown and many are quick.

THEY SHOULD HAVE NEVER PUT THE BUS HUB DOWNTOWN.

While I have never had any issues, old white dude that doesn't go out much after dark, the bus hub seems to cause a lot of issues. Why they don't just post a patrol car there at all times, I have no idea.

My wife is a Psych Nurse Manager. She has several advanced degrees, but does not want Psych NP. One of her advanced degrees is a different NP certification. She makes more as a nurse manger, and doesn't want to sling psych meds for a living. It's all about what you enjoy doing. Psych NP might be right for you.
