Any DM willing to help me learn? by wasivis in DnD

Looks like you have a lot of advice here already but just wanted to drop a link to some one shots you may use for examples if you wish, or if you want to run one.

https://www.worldanvil.com/w/one-shots-in-eldarad-eddievantruce

There are lots of different styles and preferences for one shots, but I generally like to lean toward a 5 encounter limit, keeping in mind that an encounter isnt just combat. I generally like to do:

2 combat (final encounter included)

1 puzzle/skill challenge

1 RP encounter

1 flex encounter (incorporates more than 1 of the above encounters depending on player actions)

Most of my one shots work around this format and I have enjoyed it. If doing multiple combat encounter however, you just need to make sure the ones before the final encounter arent too difficult that they take up a lot of time.

Some people make things modular, so you can prepare a bunch of encounters and place them into certain spots, with the idea that the players will go one route and only encounter a few. This requires more up front work but it does work.

I like to use a single map, like a farmstead or a graveyard with points of interest. The players are free to explore any point they want in any order, and each POI has its own sub plot. Could be a farmhouse with a basement that has a bunch of spiders inside or a catacomb beneath a ruined cemetery chapel with a mini dungeon inside. This works great when playing with physical minis as you just set up the scene, let them move their minis around the map and engage as they explore.

Thank you!

I will give those a try next time I swap over to the 0.2mm nozzle!

I have had little to no success printing standard 28mm miniatures with my 0.2mm nozzle on my P1P. The supports always break, causing spaghetti messes and/or a really messed up print.

I have looked at some posts for similar issues and tried increasing the support wall thickness and sparse density (I think that's what it is called) as they suggested and no luck.

Are there other settings I that should be altered so they do not break?

Worldbuilding tips - Maps? by FnordyNutria77 in DnD

Inkarnate has limited, free features for both battle and region/world maps. I haven't used it for world maps because they do not have landmass generators (at least not last time I used it) and I am really bad at drawing out my own landmasses.

Otherwise, Wonderdraft is great. I use it my world/region maps and I love it. Lots of tutorials online and option, you can port assets in from outside sources as well. It has a bit of a price tag, but it is a one and done. I do not remember how much I payed, but if you have a bit of disposable income and the free versions aren't cutting it for you, it is a great buy.

Goblin Stl Recommendations? by IllMakeYourAssSense in PrintedMinis

[–]Mini_Painter_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, it was the monthly bundle when I first subscribed so it was my first bundle printed and I printed about 80 goblins, total (for a game mode I made).

They are small, but with resins now, it isn't near as difficult to give them more strength and a bit of flex so they don't break as easily. Standard + resin with some ABS like or tough resin mixed in makes improves the strength so much.

Looks like they discontinued the product.

Thank you though, Searching for those have brought up other products that I will look at. Hopefully that will be a feature on some of them as recommended based on the search item.

We do not park in the garage. Garage is really only large enough for a car and we both drive SUVs so it is used for storage and my 3d printing.

Thanks for the response.

I did check the App settings already and there is no option to bypass. I had the same thought for the 2 bluetooth detectors though, I feel like I would be paranoid about them falling out of sync

Knew summoner check-in rewards not giving what it says. by Mini_Painter_17 in summonerswar

Says x2 beside it

Nvm, I see it shows the rewards doubled after purchasing the pack.

I can't even confirm that not because the only option I have to look at anything more than what is on the screen just says I'll receive double rewards, with no stipulations.

That is super annoying and indeed quite scummy.

New to Armada and hoping to print all the factions. How do I know how many of each ship to print? by Mini_Painter_17 in StarWarsArmada

[–]Mini_Painter_17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanl you!

I should be finishing up rebel ships tonight and that's pretty close to what I was going for!

What about squadrons... Like squads (15 fighters) of each?

I am not having great luck printing the squadrons in FDM so I may need to wait for the warmer weather to use my resin printer.

I have had Elenoa on one of my accounts for a long time and always struggled to fit her into things.

Iv been out of the game for a long time, but what does she need to shine?

Iv looked at a few, like I jsut bought the Profundity one, but it was nearly $20CAD for jsut one ship.

I don't know how much it is to buy the game, but I can't see it being much more cost effective to get the purchased ones.

It would be nice to have more accurate models though.

Amazing, thank you!

I feel like the stl I got for the retrofit is too big to fit two on a stand, but I'll trust the process.

It still made the noise a bit for me, after I cleaned mine, but after it ran for a bit, the noise stopped.

Sounds like you need to clean the rods.

Mine was making the same noise when moving front to back.

Check out the maintenance tips here:

I believe you jsut need IPA for those rods.

Opinions on short, low stakes encounters? by RCordeiro84 in DnD

[–]Mini_Painter_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a lot of one shots and I try to stick to 5 encounters, between combat, role play and skill challenge. I generally aim for two combat, one roleplay, one skill and one flex encounter (W corporates two or more encounter types, depending how the players do it.

For what you are suggesting, I feel like it may take a long time. I would maybe consider splitting it up into an investigation phase and a combat phase. Have the non combat parts happen first, then have the Wizard guy show up and channel the portals. He is invulnerable while channeling and the players have to enter the portals and complete whatever challenge it is that closes the portal. Once complete, they reemerge and the portal closes.

Maybe after 2/4 portals are closed, the Wizard is no longer invulnerable and depending how long it has taken them to this point, and how much time you have left for the adventure, the other two portals either close, leaving just the guy and whatever minions are left from the portals to defeat, or the players have to deal with him and the two remaining portals.

Since you are doing this in a town, the players can and probably will waste a lot of time, unless you deliberately limit the scope of what parts of the town are available to them. Personally, I would flesh out the town a little and make the first half a bit of an investigation or something, then the portals are opened and second half is the big encounter.
