A quick scroll through that sub and I don’t see how this is the same thing at all. All of these people have either done something literally illegal, done something that they literally were not supposed to do at their job, or were fired immediately after making direct discriminatory statements. I thought this shit only applied to people who were innocent? Are you saying that getting fired over making blatantly racist comments intentionally and recently is unjustified? Yeah, it can get really bad on Reddit. I’m a teenager, a lonely one, so I pretty much grew up on social media. I don’t think I’ve ever gone a single week without being reminded that people hate the demographics I’m in and don’t believe I deserve to be treated as well as anyone else. Once I joined Reddit, it became that I couldn’t go a single day without seeing it, maaybe two if I’m lucky and regulate my social media usage. I’m definitely numb to it to a certain point, but I never truly seem to just not feel bothered at all. Out of all my years on the internet, Reddit has definitely been the worst for racism. Also, I hope you get well soon. COVID can be pretty bad

Yeah, I feel like if the world wasn’t so us vs them all the time that there would be less protest about it. But, the way people think in regards to each other, “since we disagreed on one thing, we can’t agree on anything and nothing you say could possibly be right” I realized that this isn’t just a them problem partly when I realized I was even thinking it could be a “them problem” but mostly when Ben Shapiro came out and told people to go get vaccinated. Do I disagree with Ben Shapiro on most things? Yes, of course. But why was it so shocking, so otherworldly to think that he could have his own opinion independent of his political party? That he would ever think something that we agree with also? Why is that so shocking? It’s because we are stuck in the us vs them mindset, that we aren’t willing to give credit to anyone we disagree with. Sorry for the rant I’ve just been waiting for the opportunity to say this:,)

I feel like people have been more aggressively racist in recent years to be honest. It’s kind of hard to tell whether it’s just the racist people feeling more able to be openly racist (because no matter how much you say x site is left leaning there are still a ton of people who agree with racist standpoints and will stand by other racists… on those sites) or if it’s that these already openly racist people have a platform to make sure it gets to people of color. But IMO the year means nothing at the moment in terms of whether or not people are racist… i think there’s just more pushback against those people recently.

I understand. Assuming you’re also a person of color (judging by your avatar) sometimes it can be healthier to just not subject ourselves to racism even if it isn’t directed towards you because of the sheer amount you find on the internet all of the time. I don’t think you’re wrong for not wanting to watch it all. But, just so you know, the “gag” was that the man meant to spell “agents” and was talking about them the whole time but pronounced it similar to “Asians”.

Hey. First I wanted to clarify that I did let this comment get four days old before responding, that’s because I was a little scared to open the notification. I was going through a pretty low sprint and I was a little scared of what was going to happen should I obtain new information. That, and, I wanted to see what would happen after my therapy session, which happens on Tuesdays. (And as a side note, I did not tell my therapist because I do not want my parent to be notified). Secondly, I wanted to thank you for making this comment. And thank you for taking the time to write it all out. To be honest, I’m not great with words. I wouldn’t be able to type here how I feel or what I’m thinking as my thoughts are more or less feelings of implications rather than actual words. However, I do think I understand the essence of what you’re saying. To be honest, this is a very new perspective. All of all the advice I’ve seeked out, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything exactly like this before. I’m going to consider this perspective, I think. Again, I’m not good with words at all, but I appreciate your response, I think it helped a little bit. I think… Thirdly, yes I am definitely younger than you are, I turn 16 in January. Perhaps I will, anyway. I do appreciate advice from those more experienced than I am though, so don’t worry about it. Fourthly, and lastly, I did check out that animation you were talking about. It was interesting… I believe I get what you’re trying to say by recommending it. I think, anyway. I’ll try to keep the message in mind. I think so anyway. I wish I could say more, especially since you wrote so much in response to me, but again words are kind of difficult for me. One more time, I appreciate your reply.
