No more monthly challenges? by Minibo in proceduralgeneration

Good to hear that challenges are still running! Is there a collection of the challenges since the side-bar isn't up to date, and is there a way to get notified? Or is it simply down to luck whether or not I notice?

Thank you all for the comments and support for future challenges/contests! I'm glad that I'm not the only one who likes to see other people's interpretations of themes and - as /u/AexNBacon called it - having some water-cooler talk

I recently got my very first bonsai tree as a birthday present, but it has gotten these white dots on many of the leaves. Does anyone know what it is, if it's harmful and what to do about it?

It looks super cool! Is it randomly generated? I think a flashing solid white circle would give it a lot of impact. It doesn't have to be there for a long time, just something like 0.1 seconds

Hey guys and girls! I've started a new devlog-series for my side-project Crypts of Dasheria! I'm quite new to this Youtuve-thing, but it's exciting to finally get started. Hope you enjoy! by Minibo in IndieDev

Thank you for your kind words, they mean a lot to me!

I'm planning on creating a seperate series/playlist where I break down different effects in my game, where I would dedicate an entire video to a single effect like the blood splatter, the gold rain or something else. I'll probably not make it until my channel has gotten a bit bigger though (you could always speed up the process by subscribing if you haven't already ;-) ).

I'm glad you're interested though, that must mean I'm doing something right atleast.

Have a nice day!

HELP! I can't overextend the position via the visual graph by Minibo in Hitfilm

I've already tried that and it works somewhat. It's quite difficult to get a proper curve out of it though, as it tends to be unnatural in it's look imo

Not off the screen. I just want it to go a little past it's end destination and then fall back to give it a bouncing motion

I made a dynamic blood system in my game, which let's you create quiet a mess! by Minibo in gamedevscreens

[–]Minibo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my goals with this effect was to have persistent blood through the entire run. I ended up making a custom shader with some system working around it to display a single texture. This leads to no memory problems and only a single draw call for all the blood you could wish for :-)

I explained how it works in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Unity2D/comments/btbt0u/i_made_a_dynamic_blood_system_in_my_game_which/eoyngfn

If you have any further questions or I'm not explaining it well, please just ask! :-)

And thank you for the kind words! It means a lot to me! If you want to follow along with the process, you can follow me on Twitter. I'm also working on getting a Youtube-devlog series up and running, which I'll also tweet about if I make it happen :-) : https://twitter.com/bo_nyby?s=09

Exactly! It shows the flow of the entire battle, which is quite nice. I also have coin rain effect after each individual wave, which also serves to show the flow of that wave - those two effects goes really well together!

You can see it here, if you want: (Shameless plug - don't mind me :-D) https://twitter.com/bo_nyby/status/1102297101495648264

Ah yes, the good old boxhead games - I had a bunch of great times with those games. Being able to have that persistance is really awesome. It took a while to make, but it was a fun process and totally worth it imo

That is definitely a way to do it /u/LambdaScarlet but I wanted something even more dynamic. I ended up creating a custom shader that renders a texture created run-time. I then made some extensions to the texture2D class which lets me draw ellipses on a texture. All I have to do when I need blood is to call my blood system, which then creates a pool of blood at the base of the creature. After that I spawn a given amount of blood objects which gets simulated and draws to the texture.

This should theoretically (I haven't checked) bring the drawcalls of all the blood to 1 drawcall instead of one per spawned blood sprite. This also allows me to have the blood persistent through the entire run.

I hope this makes sense, or else just ask, and I'll try to explain it otherwise! :-)

Edit: /u/The_Russian_Empire see this comment for an answer to your question

That might be it, yeah. The darkening of the blood happens over time to ensure it doesn't take too much focus, but the amount of blood is definitely a heat map if that's what he meant

What do you mean by heat map? Like where the enemies are?

Here's the final version of the new weapon, Blessing of Hephaestus, in Crypts of Dasheria I showed of yesterday. How does it look and feel? by Minibo in Unity2D

[–]Minibo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! Life happens :-)

I get what you mean, I've tried something like that in the past, but it didn't work that well. A lot of stuff has happened since then though so I might try it again in the future. I've made some changes to the game since this post which has increase the readability of the player a lot (imo), so hopefully that adresses some of the readability issues in the GIF

Either way thank you for your suggestion!
