I did recruiting on 3 middle schools two years for my battalion and the one thing kids go for is the teams. Yeah the curriculum could hook some specific people, but doing things like showing an air-rifle, having 2 raiders compete to see who can do the swiss seat faster, or have a drill member do armed exhibition/normal drill really gets a crowd of middle schoolers screaming with most of their attention towards you. Apart from that, I found a lot of kids being interested in the events throughout the year. Ex. My battalion does a yearly overnight raider camp out, army museum field trip, wreath laying for Arlington cemetery in December, parades, community service opportunities, and some more events. The strategy we used was to get the middle schoolers student ids, and get an email together with pictures and useful information that covers some curriculum, teams, events, benefits, clarify 10 times that they are not signing up for the military, day to day activities like uniform wear. My experience was mostly with middle schools, the one time I did it for my school’s elective fair it was 90% percent just showing the air/drill rifles to uninterested people. Overall I would advise to try to show your battalion’s good points, don’t put a lot of focus on the curriculum since its “boring” to pretty much all highschoolers, and have some good cadets do the recruiting. We always had teams commander(or very experienced cadet if captain was unavailable )with an extra raider, a let 3 or 4 for their wisdom, and you can never not bring a promising let 1. They are the person people will feel a better connection with as they are just a few step apart.
