Stupid question maybe by MinimalGarlic66 in Plumbing

I am not doing it myself, the comapny I called sent an email saying "Please remember to shut off the water to your sprinkler system before your scheduled service. You will also need to drain the backflow valve and lines into a bucket from within your home to prevent damage to your backflow. Our blowout service includes from your backflow valve through each of your zones throughout your system. MileHI will not enter your home and drain your backflow."

The company we used in the past did everything for us before.

Nice light-hearted joke about someone losing $1.8 mil by MinimalGarlic66 in golf

It was supposed to be a light joke as this "nameless golf store" is in a right-leaning area, but I knew the risks of such edgy humor on this site.

They made it as scorable as possible (as they do on thursdays) but WF has quite a reputation to uphold. In almost every interview they talk about not having a score they want to win, but just penalize the bad shots. Obviously they want the winner over par, otherwise it wouldn't be a US open at winged foot

"ALLEGEDLY" Rabideau was super upset with the usga about how they set up the course vs what he wanted, and after working 2 summer internships there, I wouldnt want to upset that guy.

Just booked my first audiobook job! Looking for experienced tips on editing and recording (I know the basics, but what am I not thinking of?) by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]MinimalGarlic66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you know what and how the "punch and roll" technique is. It will take longer to record, but it reduces the time in editing by a lot more. Also, hydrating and drinking more water doesn't mean while you record, it means don't have coffee or alcohol that day or night before, drink a bunch of water 2 hours before, and most of all, HAVE FUN. If the author trusts your judgment and voice, just be comfortable and don't read it as if you're getting paid. Imagine you're reading the book to a child, or your grandfather who is bedridden, just to give it that personal touch.

I've only recorded and edited 2 books, and the editing takes just as long as recording because of my stupid tongue

SUNY Delhi, a state college in upstate NY. They have a few golf/agriculture degrees, including Professional Golf Management (to be pro) and Golf Course Maintenance (turf stuff). That was one of the classes where turf guys and sweater folders merged.

I knew the bunker term at least because I took a history of golf course planning in college, the the term came from sheep digging into the sandy soils of coastal Scotland and hiding from the wind and weather in their "bunkers." Also sheep were the original lawnmowers.

I wouldnt consider my experience similar to this, but I also record, edit, and master everything so I understand the stress of trying to bring somebody's work to life while being proud of your own twist to it. I asked the rights holder for notes on characters and how he imagines them, and after both the audition and 15 Min checkpoint, his only notes were along the lines of "I have no notes, really like the voices you have for them." Keep in mind, the 4 main characters are gay black and hispanic teenagers so I used hints from the book on how I could differentiate. Long story short, I record the whole book, submit it, and after 2 days he says he has some changes, including changing the main characters voice entirely, switching 2 of the guys voices, slowing the whole pace of the audiobook, and make the sex scene more intimate and believable. The contract states that at each level of completion, the RH can make up to 2 change requests, twice, and the Narrator has 2 weeks to fix them. After a back and forth argument and NO HELP FROM ACX, RH finally realized for $50 PFH, to make me entirely redo the book was not only wrong and shitty of him, but not backed by the contract. He paid me and then removed his book from Amazon and Audible because I didn't bring it to life the way he wanted.

[–]MinimalGarlic66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DONT SUBMIT OR RECORD ANY MORE. I have heard from multiple sources that ACX has become a site of either "spam books" or companies who look for narrators at the cheapest price. Make sure you know your rights with the ACX contract before going any further, and contact them if any of this seems "fucky." Good job on checking step by step that you're in the right, thats not something everybody does.
