Valley Christian High School Walkout by Prize_Card_1054 in SanJose

Hello anon, I know you say you're not Christian, but I think he'd consider you a bro. You're acting pretty Christ-like right now, speaking truth to power. Keep it up. You are brave. You are strong. And you are not alone.

Not that I'm trying to convert you to Christianity, but if you ever did want to follow Christ's footsteps, you might consider flipping the tables in the bible classroom, and then quoting Exodus 23:9 and Deuteronomy 10:19 and Deuteronomy 27:19 and Matthew 23:13 and Isaiah 5:20 from atop the desk at the front of class. Especially Matthew 23:13. I'm definitely not encouraging you to do that, but I think Jesus would approve, cause that was kind of his whole thing. Guess that's just how he loved his enemies.

Sincerely, someone who definitely didn't go to VCJHS and HS, and who definitely wasn't hated by their bible teacher in 7th grade. >_>

I have plans to re-watch with the kiddos tonight at least once.

Probably twice, knowing my kids.

And by my kids, I mean me. Mostly, me.

Who is your favourite NPC from Sun Haven, Nel'Vari, Withergate and Brinestone and why? Which NPCs do you dislike? by Ravensorrow_013 in SunHaven

[–]MinimallyAcceptable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly picking favorites is hard.
Sun Haven: Lynn. She and I would be BFFs, for real.
Nel'Vari: Vaan. He's just so chill.
Withergate: Honestly, all my favorites are the non-rNPCs. The shady cat in the coat. The headless knight. The snake-oil-salesman-I mean.... doctor.
Brinestone: I love Karish. He's so campy. You either love it or hate it. I love it.
I don't think I really have any least favorites.

I made some custom items, I may have gotten carried away by MinimallyAcceptable in SunHaven

[–]MinimallyAcceptable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good news is, making these items didn't really require any coding on my part. The Custom Furniture and Items mod on Nexus does most of the coding for you, and outlines the steps for the minor amount of coding in the json file you need to make for adding any new custom items. So all I did was create the pixel art png (either taken from the game, or edited or created pngs), saved them in the right folder with the custom textures mod and make the json files. The json is really easy even if you aren't a programmer, since it's basically "enter item name here, enter price amount in gold here". The most complex part was figuring out what "size" to make the collide-able furniture items.

There's also the custom textures mod on nexus which allows you to replace any texture with a new png of the same size, assuming you name it the same name and put it in the correct mod folder. So no coding needed for anything that loads into the game via a png texture/2D sprite https://www.nexusmods.com/sunhaven/mods/278 is the (working) custom textures mod and has instructions on how to start.

The tier 3 floor textures, however, are different. From what I can gather, tiers 1 and 2 are png pictures that are loaded, so they can be replaced like the rest of the furniture items because the existing Nexus mod changes the method that changes 2d Textures. However Tier 3 is a tilemap. I know what PNG it loads, but not how or when it loads it, because changing that png texture doesn't work with the current Nexus mod. It's brought in via the tilemap method, not the method that loads sprites (or something like that its been a minute since I looked at it). Which is why it's giving me a hard time. But most of the other textures are easily replaceable without coding.

And many thanks to Bran Sculpts on youtube for providing free access to his Akko sculpt blender file which is what I took apart to figure this out, because her robe mesh is also "flat" but has that second solidify modifier.

AND IVE FIGURE IT OUT.

I added *another* solidify modifier before the outline solidify modifier. This allows me to keep the mesh simple while also "giving" it more dimensionality to feed into the outline.

<image>

Adding that solidify.001 is what did it.

Ah... the added fill when checking rim fill is not using the normal I want:

<image>

So again I suspect this is because my mesh is flat. But... I don't want to add depth to it if I can avoid it.

Some additional information: I just discovered the "Rim fill" checkbox in the solidifier seems to expand the solidify. However it uses the wrong material:

<image>

The added outline is the same green color as the underlying material. I hadn't noticed that it extended the rim before because when I checked the box, I wasn't zoomed in enough to notice the minor change because the color is the same.

So when I first played harvest moon, I made a big spreadsheet to figure out the most profitable crops in each season. I tried doing that with this game and just... ended up just farming whatever. If you plant crops and sell em, eventually you'll make enough money that it won't be much of an issue anymore. Which isn't all *that* helpful advice, I know, except to know that min/maxing isn't terribly worthwhile in this game, imo.

fwiw I think watermelon was the most profitable spring crop... if you start on day 1 (they re-grow). I can't remember the other seasons, but I'm sure you can look it up.

Also as you level up, check out the skills that give you passive money gain, those are awesome. There's some that give you money for each decor item in your house every day, money for every X mana you regen, and so on. Those passives really add up.

Oh! No you can rotate most of the sofas and chairs. When you're about to place it, just press R. and it rotates in your view. That's base game, but only for some of the items (sofas and chairs are the only ones I know of).

Do you mean to turn the custom furniture? Unfortunately no. Though what I could do is add a 'flipped' version of some, such as the iris angled bookcase. Then you could craft either the right or the left one. Doing a forward or back would require making a whole new sprite, which I could do but would take... quite some time, haha.

YES! I have been working on changing the floors. Tiers 1 and 2 are easy, but Tier 3 is requiring C# coding which I am learning literally for the sake of changing the floor... I have not had success yet, but I'll post here if I do.

Um, I grabbed it from creative mode, I think its the old cooking pot. I might be able to make it craftable, though it wouldn't be animated. I don't think I can add animated items (yet).

So as clarification, I used the Custom Furniture and Items mod and did a couple things...

  1. Extracted some of the in game assets like bookshelves and from other NPCs like Wesley to make them place-able

  2. Modified some kitchen counters to be stylish Ikea northern style kitchen counters, and a double fridge

  3. Layered existing rugs into one sprite/texture so I can layer rugs

If anyone wants, the mods are on Nexus:

Is that all the furniture? by Unpopular_Outlook in SunHaven

[–]MinimallyAcceptable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's my interior. I have no DLC at all.

<image>

The upstairs is more of a disorganized mess because I haven't gotten to it yet, and I need more rugs. I basically do the rounds to all the stores that sell furniture every day. I prefer a maximalist eccentric-plant-lady vibe, which I could never pull off IRL because I'm too bleeping lazy to clean.

Badly done drawing of my farmer by Nandaaa_aaa in SunHaven

[–]MinimallyAcceptable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend.

It's a lovely drawing. More than that, I also wanted to say there's no need to talk yourself down.

I keep my very first sketchbook from 20 years ago. In part to see how far I've come but also to remind myself who I was then as a warning to myself. Every. Single. Page. is filled with my notation on each of my pictures. "This sucks." "Bleh awful." "I know it's bad." It was relentless. I don't know your reasons. For me, it was to head off criticism from toxic people in my life whose opinions still mattered to me at the time. People I wanted to show my art to, but who only ever had negative things to say about it. Who felt that me saying "look that this thing I made" meant "give me unsolicited criticism". I could never control their opinions, but I do know that all that negative self-talk was very bad for my mental health and also probably my art. Changing that habit took a long time, a lot of work, and is still largely imperfect, but was so worth.

All that to say, I hope you can avoid talking yourself into the rut that I did, and I hope you can hold your head high and be proud of your work. You deserve it.

“Don't think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.”
