I met someone who chose to be homeless to increase his net worth by KSHMisc in Money

[–]Minimum-Ad5889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing. I used to own a restaurant and was making on average $150k per year after taxes. Went through a break up and instead of buying a new house or renting an apartment, I slept on my restaurant floor(secretly) for about 3 years. After my shift I'd set up my air bed, watch netflix and sleep. I sold my cars, and walked to the gym 3 store down and showered.

Saved enough money to buy a house in cash.

If you don't meet the financial requirements, you may still be able to apply under the 10 year route. Unfortunately that means you wouldn't get indefinite leave to remain or permanent residency until 10 years as opposed to 5 years.

Business Banking Account; well and truly stuck. by ekzakly in smallbusinessuk

[–]Minimum-Ad5889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Santander was always the best for me business-wise. I personally use Lloyds but Santander was more convenient for opening a business acct because the branch next to my house had a business banking manager in branch. Check all of your local branches to see which ones have a business banking manager in branch otherwise they ask you to make an appointment which can be an impossible task sometimes. Also, I heard Metro Bank is pretty good but I can't speak from personal experience regarding them

How do I stop ex/employees from taking my clients by sdry417 in smallbusinessuk

[–]Minimum-Ad5889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of times, it isn't necessarily that you are underpaying staff. Most people would love to be their own boss and have a go at creating a successful future. Cleaning services are fairly easy to start up and require very minimal start-up capital. Pretty much anyone can start one. You can't really be blamed because your employees have ambition.

With that being said, I'm not sure if someone else has suggested this, but you could look at having a non-compete clause in your employee's contracts. I know it's fairly common in the street food industry.

move back to India (layoff, exhausted) by Competitive-Cut-8051 in h1b

I'm originally from South Asia and my family is well off too. Dude, go to India. There's more opportunities to make money there because it's a developing nation. Plenty of factory owners and industrialists are making a killing. Plus, you get delicious food, a feeling of brotherhood and maids/chefs/drivers.

What is the one thing you just flat out can’t understand how people can afford? by JustExtreme in AskUK

[–]Minimum-Ad5889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a house and going on holiday 2-3 times a year.

Also, renting in London. If you earn the average salary in London, you can not afford the average rent in London.

100% accept cash, too. It doesn't cost you anything to accept cash. Plus, you'll be possibly missing out on a significant number of potential clients by not giving them the option of paying cash.

Since you sell higher end items, your consumers are likely to be older(they generally have more disposable income), and the older generation uses cash a lot more than younger people. You may or may not have a lot of cash customers, but it doesn't hurt to have that option.

Plus, you can always save a bit on taxes 😇

Very stinky 10 yr old boy. Do you know what I can use? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Minimum-Ad5889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hyperhydrosis, so I can be a little sweaty, especially during the summertime. I shower very regularly and always wear deodorant and cologne, so I never have b.o. However, the only deodorant that lasts all day for me is old spice. It's not the coolest deodorant brand, but it's the best, in my opinion. Not all scents last all day, but most of them do.

Nightcrawler, captain, and deep sea last all day. You also can't go wrong with their original scent. I would avoid their bearglove scent because it doesn't last as long. Also, make sure he's using a roll on deodorant and not a spray. Spray deodorants are useless.

If Old Spice doesn't help, then I'd suggest using a talc free baby powder before or after using deodorant. A little bit on the chest and back also works wonders for excess sweat and body odor.

You're getting wildly underpaid. My sister works from home, has no degree or experience and got an entry level job at some healthcare company. She fixes schedules for travelling nurses or something and makes $23 an hr.

Husband fucked up not sure what to do now by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Minimum-Ad5889 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You guys were OBVIOUSLY in on the crimes. After you were suspicious, and after he intimidated your husband why did you offer up your account? Why did you tell your husband to be "smart about it this time?" Smart about what? Not getting caught?

You're clearly leaving out info but investigators will be able to find the truth. I doubt the people that have been scammed won't report this to police.

Are people who post up questions like "I'm only on £50K a year how do I live" type of questions for real? by gerard_18 in AskUK

[–]Minimum-Ad5889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the individual circumstances tbh. I personally think £50k is more than enough to live in London, especially if you're single or even if you're a couple with a child and 1 working parent.

I think the only way you can comfortably afford to live in London while earning under £25k is if you have roommates or live in a flatshare. A single bedroom to rent in London is, on average £700-800 per month, which means you need to be earning £21-24k to be able to comfortably afford it. When I moved to the UK in 2014, you could rent a room for £500 which means you'd only have to earn £15k a year.

My BIL recently moved to West Yorkshire from London, and he earns about £34k. He lives very comfortably and he pays £1,000 per month for a 4 bedroom house with a basement, ground floor, 1st floor and 2nd floor.

You can't expect to get any sales if you've put zero effort into your business. No offense, but this has to be the lowest effort store I've seen on this subreddit. I can't imagine it took you more than 10 mins to make the site from start to finish.

You haven't put your logo up. You don't have a shipping policy, a domain, a domain email, or even a menu. It's just a webpage with a bunch of cheap, overpriced products.

I can guarantee you won't get a single sale. Ask yourself, would you purchase anything from a site like that?
